Sunset at the Palms
Ranked #6 of 80 Hotels in Negril
Certificate of Excellence

The resort is as advertised very small, staff very friendly. The rooms are large, clean, but housekeeper never seems to arrive before 4pm. Food is very repetitive. There is no where comfortable to sit after dinner and read etc. lighting is very poor in the evening and also in the rooms.

I am surprised with all the great reports we read on here. Quite disappointing!

Room Tip: Do not book in the 400 series of rooms. Very loud in the evening.

We returned to this fantastic hotel after 4 years and believe it or not the staff remembered us straight away. Ian the pool cleaner such a great guy. Wonky donkey Kirk a great barman. The grounds are kept beautiful. The beach is beautiful clean and natural. The food was ok a bit spicy but the dining staff was fantastic. We went with my brother and his wife. Phil is disabled but the staff couldn't do enough to help. We went on a day trip and the driver Oswald Sinclair was fab with plenty of information about the Island. The rooms are clean a little noisy but all music stops at 10.30pm. I would like to say a big thank you to all who made a holiday to remember.

Room Tip: All rooms are ok although the ones near the main road could be noisy

My husband and I stayed at the Palms on our honeymoon early September. I cannot say enough good things about this resort and Jamaica itself. I have traveled to some pretty destinations..And I have to say Jamaica is the most beautiful place I have ever been. So green and lush. And the people are just so relaxed and nice.
Now to the resort...Upon our arrival, we requested a room away from the road after we read reviews on here. No problem mon. Our room was in the 700 section and was quiet, perfect. The grounds are well maintained- you feel like you are in the jungle. The room is really neat. We felt as if we were in a cabin in the woods. Loved the woodwork, the updated bathroom with many jets, and the balcony with day bed. The day bed was the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach.
On to the beach because for us- the BEACH is where it is at!! OMG- The beach is amazing. The water is crystal clear, clean and luke warm. Not so warm that you feel like it is bathwater but the perfect temp to feel cool and refreshed. Always a chair available and enough shade if you want to get out of the sun. Bar and grill on the beach. BONUS!! Opal served the most amazing jerk chicken, fries, snapper. We tried almost everything. And she is so nice- remembers your name. We honestly spent most of our time on the beach as this is vacation to us. The entertainment on beach was random solo guitarists singing Reggae. They were always really good and appreciate tips which are well deserved. Yes- you are asked by locals walking the beach if you want ganja and other services they may offer (braids, jet skiiing) but a simple no thank you and your done. Looking up and down the beach I could really tell that The Palms had the best beach area right in the heart of Bloody Bay. We bought a lobster on the beach that was freshly caught and cooked for us right in a hut on the beach. Very cool experience and was delicious.
Another favorite activity of ours was the pool bar! We met so many nice couples there with whom we talked and hung out with throughout our trip. It was so nice to meet different people from all over and the vibe of this resort was just overall friendly. The pool and bar is open until 1am! Which was great! The bar service here was also great- Whatever you want is yours! DIRTY BANANAS are awesome!! DELISH!
As for the entertainment on the resort. There really isnt a ton. If I HAD to find one minor detail to improve on this would be it. The steel drum band was great and would recommend that they have them more often. We are not hard to please people- give us a beach, a drink, each other, and some food. We are good. So if you are looking for an action packed resort with a ton of people. This place is not for you. The food was always very good. The beach grill was our favorite. The Buffet was delish though as well. Lotus offered a nice change if you want to dress up and have a date night feel.
As for excursions. I would highly recommend the sunset cruise to ricks cafe. Its reasonable. $50 a person. They take you to a shopping area- (not for us), to some caves to swim, snorkeling, and to the famous Rick's cafe where you can cliff jump. We did it and it was a fun experience! Ricks cafe itself is a cool spot- we werent there long though. On our next trip, I think we would go back and spend the day possibly. The tour guides on the boat are fun, and drinks are included. Which made the mini trip fun. We also went to YS Falls, cruise on the Black river with crocodiles, and to the Appleton Rum factory. We arranged the excursion through John Wayne tours who parks outside the resport. AKA- Randy- VERY COOL GUY! We actually used his cab to travel a few places on our trip and he is great. We typically dont like to do too many excurions as it takes away from our beach relaxation time-but we figured it was our honeymoon why not. The excursion was looong. In retrospect could have done without the rum tour. Took up the whole day and was a far ride from the resort. YS falls was beautiful- WEAR watershoes! The best part of the tour was the Balck River and the crocs. We will DEFINITELY be back to the Palms someday and soon. Enjoy your stay! and tip people. It is appreciated!

We just got back from a week long stay at this resort and did not want to leave. If you want a big hotel feel then this resort is not for you. However if you want a much more quiet relaxing vacation being served by the best staff I've ever seen at a resort then this is the place. The rooms are nice but the service is fantastic. We will definitely return to Jamaica and we would stay no place but this resort.

Room Tip: Tree frogs at night take getting used to so either take ear plugs or just know you"ll be sung t...

staying in this hotel made our vacations in Jamaica really wow: this idea of little wooden bungalows in the tropical garden is great! especially afterwards when we had a chance to go around and to see these huge noisy buildings of another hotels.. we were happy to come back to our nature paradise.

very beautiful garden, terrrases with day beds are great! stuff is very professional and helpful

food is good, esp breakfast and theme dinners at the night

beach is across the road but its not bothering at all cause beach itself is very nice

but to go anywhere else you need to take a taxi and its rather expensive

My husband & I came here for a wedding & stayed 4 nights. The rooms are nice but its true they have no glass panes in the windows so you hear every tree frog, raindrop & music coming from the bar. We had a room away from the road as requested but some in our group hadn't requested quiet rooms & complained of road noise. The buffet is aweful....tasteless food as you would get at any buffet stateside. The Lotus Leaf had the best food but is only open certain nights & requires reservations. The beach is littered with trees & leaves. The staff was the only bright spot in our stay. Book any tours thru "Patcha-gray" a tour bus driver who showed us around & was great. Beware the drive to any resort will put a damper on your stay .... these folks live in abject poverty.
