Just back the week after Thanksgiving. I would rebook there again. Will try not to repeat what is in other reviews.Positives: The grounds are not your typical AI motel/hotel type. Vegetation is lush, well cared for and create almost a Polynesian type experience. Also, your porch is situated to be relatively private, looking out at mountains or surrounded by foliage. The atmosphere is family like, many guests are long time repeaters and know the staff on a personal basis. The rooms are screened, air conditioned, fridges provided on request, there are safes, hairdryer, and TV and overhead ceiling fans. The staff are very friendly, love to laugh and consider you their guest. They will do anything for you. The food is not gourmet, but is good, especially the fish. The hotel beach is on the best part of Bloody Bay, in the center, most sheltered from any wind or seaweed. It is an enjoyable walk from hotel to beach, especially after eating. The beach bar and grill are opened longer hours, about twelve thirty to six pm. Entertainment is local reggae bands and singers who sell their CDs after wards and will chat with you whether you buy one or not. The dancing chef and Kirk the bartender are lots of fun. This is a place that has won an architectural digest award, is owned and staffed by Jamaicans who take pride in their business and it shows. If you want lots of action, big shows, and gourmet food with lots of different restaurants this place is not for you. This is a place for people who want to interact with staff who are locals, be in an idyllic and very different environment and who want a laid back atmosphere. The catamaran trip to seven mile beach, pirate's cave, and Ricks is a good deal and can be booked next door at the Riu water sports. I would not recommend a trip here for people who want good snorkeling (not much fish) or are concerned about children being around a nude beach.(There is one further down at Couples). The vendors on the beach, though not pushy or obnoxious, will approach you so if that really bothers you, this area is not for you either. Also, pot is everywhere, and we were told by a hotel manager, that it is illegal, and tourists who have been caught smoking it outside of hotel grounds, have been fined or put in jail. The police patrol the beach around dusk every day. Bring some bug spray if you like to watch the spectacular sunsets. The sand fleas arrive then to enjoy it too!!! It is about ninety minutes by private van from the airport. We used Clive's which was fine. Transfer will take longer if it is shared with others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road if you don't want to hear traffic.

Just returned today from Sunset at the Palms and had a great vacation! The food, service, beach, amenities, and location were truly amazing! The property is one of a kind and just beautiful! This is defiantly a place for couples so leave the kids behind if you can! Take a trip to the cliffs, YS Falls and try out the water sports if you can! Make sure to hit the beach grill early for the red snapper....AWESOME! The only negative is the mass amounts of bug bites I received while there, so make sure you pack some spray and notify the staff if it seems your room may have mosquitoes in it.....they will try their best to get rid of them the best they can!

We stayed at sunset at the palms this past May. The resort is great and the gardens and landscaping is fantastic. The beach is across the road but it's not a problem. The food at the beach is great but not much variety. The bartenders can be a little slow. The food was OK but not great. Too much chicken. The vendors at the beach are a problem and really bother you especially their language. I would go back to this resort again but not to Jamaica. The people are pushy and rude. they speak english but most of the time you can't understand them. Also the place is full of drugs and they will approach you on the beach.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the road because of the road traffic noise.

We just came back one week ago from this resort. My wife booked it based on the good reviews on TripAdvisor and this is the first time we got burnt. I will give you the Pros and Cons

Cons:
1. If you like to take a nap in the afternoon, forget it. There is a small airport nearby and every 20 minutes you will hear a loud plane. This does not happen at night or in the morning
2. If planes do not bother you, there was a guy with a handheld Leaf Blower using it a 2 pm in two out of 6 days spent there (very, very smart)
3. The breakfast was average and it never changed.
4. Most people were nice but some were just unfriendly, I would say 20%. That enough to spoil your vacation.
(The reason I write this review is because of Michael, the guy that was supposed to get me on a windsurf. He just did not want to do it. The lady that was at the desk had to ask him 5 times to come, he said first it was to windy, then when there was almost no wind he said he had technical problems although he had 3 windsurfs there. I do not understand the management of this resort for keeping him. I was there twice and the second time for 40 minutes.
5. Very small beach, not a huge issue for us but still very small and narrow.

Pros
1. Good food at lunch and dinner
2. Nice rooms in a nice tropical setting
3. Very nice turquoise water
4. Not a bad size for such a resort, not to big, not to small.

The rating should have been average but because of Michael, the guy on the beach that annoyed me the last day of my vacation, I gave this a poor rating.

I had my wedding at Sunset at the Palms in November 2011. The experience was more than I could have dreamed of because of the staff and accommodations. We visited in June 2011 to ensure this was the right place and we were not disappointed. We had 54 guests and booked about half the rooms on the premises. (Not sure how the other guests felt about this). We and our guests were treated extremely well and the small things that happened didn't ruin the experience.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room closer to the back of the facility.

Well where do we start. I defintiely was worried comming here. Not because of the reviews, but because of the unknown. Now I know how right the reviews really are, and next time will be only concerned it won't measure up to this last trip to Sunset, because it was just too perfect.

The service was outstanding. We never felt like royalty, but like welcomed guests at a friends house. The staff seemed like they actually enjoyed your presence, even the housekeepers would stop and smile and ask how you day is, and would genuinely listen.

The food was amazing. The only things I disliked really were the morning hashbrowns. But everything else from the fresh fruit, the the buns, to the roast beef was really really good. i looked forward to eating at the buffet.

We tried the a la carte once, and it was also very tasty, and nicely done.

There was always enough room, never any lines ups, and always someone to help your every need.

I used to want to travel around, and now I just want to keep going back.

Obviously checked TripAdvisor before booking ... CAN"T DO BETTER !
very family oriented, NO DISCO, so green so quite, so clean, so pretty, so convinient! DO GO THERE and meet the CHEF, nicest jamaican you will ever meet, try his food, which was very tasty and different every single day, the varaety, the taste, the representation, the service and all the smiles you can get at the same time !!!
we were there with an infant, the room was ready with a crib, fridge, and kettle waiting for us.
Beach, eventhough it is actualy across the road from hotel which cross with help of a guard, who stops the traffic for you is great also: lots of trees and not too many people, full of activities and good local street musicians. YOu will not get a sunburn!

People, please, do not forget to tip people who work for you! Unfortuantely, we were ones of not so many who did, and we got the best service possible, but workers still have to sweat for everybody else. They will be happy for anything you give them, money, us or canadian, cloths, gifts. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE WORSE, DO TIP !!!

Really great place that we will came back to.
One Love!

Room Tip: whichever, eventhough you might get very surprised on the first night in Jamaica, you will not notic...
