First and foremost, if you are a fan of the beach, Xtabi is NOT the resort for you. It is nested among the cliffs at the end of seven mile beach with NO beach access (you are able to swim in the ocean off the cliffs, but can be scary, especially for a family). Xtabi has everything you need for a relaxing vacation-- however, if you enjoy luxury-- this is not the place for you. The service is incredibly spotty-- the pool is sketchy (not sure if there is chlorine) and don't expect ANY service when in the pool area. The rooms are nice enough-- no TVs, but the authentic Jamaican feel is nice. The food at the Xtabi restaurant is DELICIOUS... the best food we had on our trip, and the bartenders are very nice and accommodating (when you are in their site) otherwise they forget about you. The price for food and beverages at Xtabi is reasonable, and actually a lot cheaper than what you would expect from a Caribbean destination. The front desk and matinance crew is OUTSTANDING -- extremely helpful and friendly. Overall, we had a great time, and have no real complaints. However, I am more of a beach person so I most likely will not be returning.

Room Tip: make sure your room has AC! Don't count on room service or a fitness center

I am not sure about your comment on the pool?? what do you mean, the water is clear, there is no algae, chlorine is where it should be not over kill... new covers on the lounge chairs, lately, yes.
I do appreciate your comment and we are glad we got most of it right for you.
Thanks again for making it Jamaica and Xtabi

West End Hotel right on the cliffs. We stayed on the garden side for the 2nd time. Convenient to wake up, have breakfast , and grab some snorkel gear for 10 dollars and jump off some cliffs. Depending on what your in the mood for, the cliffs are more for the mellow, quiet, relaxed people. To get to seven mile beach is a usual 5-10 dollar cab ride each way. Ricks cafe, 3 dives, and Murphy's restaurant are located on this end. No badgering down this end.

Room Tip: you want an ac unit just to keep the humidity out

Just got back from Xtabi and it remains one of my favorite places in the world. Dave and his crew do a great job and you can't beat Xtabi's location on the West end cliffs in Negril. This year I stayed in a cabin overlooking the sea for most of my stay...there is nothing like it. You can literally stare at the sea from your bed and fall asleep to the waves crashing against the cliff below you. The snorkeling is spectacular!! Their bar and restaurant blows Rick's away. I also find their location excellent in relation to the other attractions worth checking out in Negril.

We recently stayed at Xtabi for the 3rd time. The location is excellent. Right next to Three Dives which has great grilled lobster. Great food, drinks, and afternoon sunsets. We stayed
on the bottom floor this time in the superior rooms because we thought the upstairs room were a little bright in the morning for sleeping in. But it was just too dark. The rooms are in desperate need of some new fixtures, bedding, and shower heads. One of the lights was not working in the bathroom when we arrived but even when it was repaired there is not enough light to do make up and hair very well. We would still go back but we are looking forward to some updated rooms when we do. Considering they just had a price increase when we booked the room--I was just expecting to see a little update for the place but it just has not been done.

Room Tip: The cottages are great if you can afford it but there is no TV or AC(one of them does have AC) but...

My husband and I stayed in a Garden side room. The room was spacious, clean and only a quick walk to the pool, cliffs and restaurant. Some may complain that the rooms need updating, but in all honesty, I found it quite charming and we didn't spend much time in our room, as we were too busy swimming and enjoying our stay.

Restaurant/Food: Fantastic! I've been craving the conch burger and fries ever since! Portions are great and the pricing is reasonable, with evening meals being more expensive. Breakfast: To die for! The eggs benedict is amazing, as well as the french toast, fruit platter, etc. Splitting two plates is recommended so that you can try a little bit of everything!

Pool: Clean, clean, clean! Every morning I would wake up and see the pool being cleaned. There is a tree (with beautiful flowers) that is close to the pool, so you may see flowers floating by as you swim. I thought it was quite relaxing ;) There is also a parrot that hangs out near the pool. Not once did I see his cage door locked/closed, and was always going in and out of the cage.

Cliffs/Swimming in the Ocean: Although there are signs posted everywhere, be careful getting in and out of the water via the caves. On days that the water is rough, I would recommend using the ladder, or just floating around in the pool. The water will suck you out and then toss you back in! On calm days (which was pretty much the whole time), I had no problem getting in and out of the water.

Service: Amazing! The workers were always smiling, asking how we were doing, and would bend over backwards for you.

Drive to/from Airport: Request Kingsley! He is such a wonderful man and always puts his customers first.

Tips:
- Be careful crossing the street. Double (maybe even triple) check for any cars before you cross.
- Be sure to stop in to Delcie's! She is located next door to Xtabi with jewelry, towels, clothing, etc.
- 3 Dives is just a few steps away. Great jerk chicken and live reggae on certain nights.
- Go for a walk! Just be careful as there are no sidewalks and the road can be quite narrow.
- Taxis - make sure you get a route taxi! License plates are red. They are insured & legally licensed.
- Don`t forget your common sense!

I cannot wait to go back to Xtabi!!!

Xtabi was great for our long weekend in Jamaica. I had all kinds of plans to explore the area and take day trips, but it was so beautiful and pleasant at Xtabi that we just didn't want to leave. They have lovely clear water, swimming, snorkeling, a bar/restaurant that plays pleasant music. It's a great place to spend the day. The food was pretty good, and the view was the best of any of the cliffside restaurants we visited. The water is just steps away from the rooms on the sea side. (The other side has a pool; guests can use both.)

The rooms were a little dated and rustic, but (except for the pillows) comfy. We had plenty of room to spread out. We were in seaside #8, so I wore earplugs every night to keep out the road noise, and the noise of the fan, which sounded like a Kitchen Aid mixer but otherwise worked fine. The balcony from 8 has a nice little table and daybed with views of the ocean. The outdoor shower was great as it was nice and sun-warmed in late morning and early afternoon.

The staff were all very nice -- I liked them all. This is not a full-service resort, so they aren't tripping over themselves to help you with logistics, and you may need to flag them down when you want another beer, but a lot of people don't want people bugging them when they are trying to relax, and they want to handle things on their own, so decide if this is for you or not.

This place is not for everyone -- but that's what makes it great. If you want luxury, pampering, sand, nightlife within walking distance, television, or "spring break for adults," this is not the place for you. If you want to chill, swim, have some good food, and relax to the max, this is a great place to do it.

Tip: Part of the "cliff gravity" that kept us at Xtabi also kept us from going to the grocery store. After I closed out my tab before checkout, I paid cash for 2 Red Stripes and was charged $4US/ea for them -- that's pretty steep, in fact, more than US import prices for Red Stripe. Next time we will definitely hit the grocery store and stock up.

Room Tip: #8 is a little dated and gets road noise, but it has a fridge and a balcony with an ocean view. Brin...

Xtabi has good and not so good features. The restaurant is pretty good, nothing fancy buy solid. The staff are excellent. Very friendly. Location is good and bad. Beautiful spot on cliffs but traffic noise is an issue in some cottages. The facilities are a bit tired but that can be part of the charm. The beds aren't great, and our shower wasn't good. Overall, a good place but if you expect luxury and everything to be perfect, this likely isn't your kind of place. If you want to chill and relax, it is Jamaica after all, I'd recommend xtabi.
