“One of the Best All-Inclusives I've been to...”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

We've been to this resort 3 times and got married there almost 6 years ago. The staff are attentive and strive for every guest to have an amazing stay.

When they say all-inclusive they mean it! There's no tipping allowed at the restaurants/bars which is nice to be able to take a relaxing dip in the ocean or pool and not have to worry about whether someone might be walking by trying to make off with your wallet.

The beach is private, meaning people can walk down the beach from other resorts but they can't stop on the CSA property and the vendors can't approach you unless you wave them over.

There are so many things to do - snorkling, scuba diving, catamaran cruises/cliff jumping, shopping excursions golf - and the non-motorized water sports were free. The first year we went on a rainforest canopy tour (aka zip-line adventure) that was amazing. The bus ride was long (back to Mo-Bay for this one) but it was worth it and the bus driver taught us some Jamaican slang along the way.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice but I prefer to stay in the "older" sections. The newest buildings...

A little late with my review. We arrived 11/23 to CSA for our 5th trip to Couples Resort properties. This would be our 3rd time to stay at CSA.

Arrival: Arrival in MBJ from Charlotte was good. Lines through immigration and customs was not lengthy at all. Arrived to Couples lounge and waited about 25 minutes until we were on the bus to the resort. Bus ride was pretty quiet. Other passengers did not talk much and driver was not very talkative. We were ok as we were exhausted from being up since 3:30am and it was our 5th trip to Jamaica so we just wanted to rest on the drive to CSA. Once arriving to CSA my husband immediatley made his way to dive shop to get us on the dive list and I checked us in.

Room: We were in Garden Vernandah 2208 and we loved it. Near the street and private. The car noise did not bother us at all. Only fault in the room was there never seem to be hot water and with the open air ceiling I was always cold! Previous 2 visits we were in Building 7 which is connected to Palms and we really disliked those rooms and not having a balcony. We always choose the Garden Verandah rooms since we are not in the room much anyway.

Food: Was looking forward to the grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches at the grill but they had taken them off the menu 1 mth before our arrival. No biggie my new favorite at the grill is now the tacos with beef! Food at Patois, Palms and Lemongrass were just as good as we remember. Repeaters dinner was the night of my husbands birthday and they made it special for him, so I am appreciative to Abe who was the manager at our table for pulling that together.

Beach: Still our favorite beach of all the Couples properties. Vendors did not bother us. Only bothersome was the singers who just stopped and started singing, we had no cash on us to tip them. Felt bad, but what are you supposed to do when they just walk up and start singing.

Scuba: We had just gotten certitifed here in the states before we arrived for this trip so this would be our first ocean dives. The first dive was a little rough with it being a red flag so it was not ideal conditions for a first time dive. The second dive and 2 others Cooper took us under his wing and watched over us. I felt more comfortable knowing he was keeping an extra eye on us as new divers. I wish I would have had that the first dive. With a short trip and red flag days in beginning we only dove 4 times, but it was great the last 3 dives!

Staff that we saw providing great service:
Abe - Executive manager - very visible on the property and remembered us from CSS in March 2012. He made an extra effort on the repeaters dinner for my husband's birthday.
Cooper - Scuba
Shirlene - Palms server
Charose - Patois server
Jason - logo shop
* I wish I would have not lost the piece of paper I jotted down our housekeeper's name but she was so sweet and friendly.

This was a short 4 night trip for us as it was planned last minute, so we made the best of it. We did not get to visit Feathers or the spa. We are returning Dec 2013 for Couples trip #6 and a nice long 9 night trip to CSA where we can indulge a little more. Can't wait to go back and dive with the dive staff and relax on that incredible beach!

My wife and I have travelled to many high end resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. Our week at CSA - which ends tomorrow at 7 a.m. :-( was very enjoyable. While the hotel lacks the high end polish and bling of more modern resorts that we have visited (is nonetheless very clean and charming in its own way), it offered us a great holiday. Overall our experience at this resort is a very favorable and positive one.

Some highlights include:

A high standard of service with a well trained staff (not allowed to accept tips as my understanding is that CSA has an employee profit sharing program). For someone who works as a Senior Human Resources Consultant, I was impressed to see a room they have on the second floor of their main lobby where they showcase the achievements of their staff with impressive employee recognition displays. CSA seems to be a very forward thinking and ethical employer at face value. Generally speaking CSA staff is friendly, service focussed and willing to go the extra mile to keep their clients happy.

An amazing beach (they need more shaded areas)

Great tennis lessons included with all inclusive package.

Room doesn't have a musty humidity smell which we find impressive for the Caribbean.

Good food quality

Areas of improvement

To qualify the following, CSA does alot right, a few areas that would improve this resort:

- Their sports bar (smoothies near tennis and work out area) needs to use fresh fruit. Concentrated banana mixtures are a turn off! we left our drinks there and didn't go back! The girl working at the sports bar did not follow strict hygene standards typically found at rest of resort (spooned mixture on her hand to check sweetness, licked it and then made another drink). Likely an isolated case but thought I would mention in case CSA management reads these reviews.

- This resort can likely get away with its current decor/facility for another year or two. After this point the place will really start to show its age. It has reached a point in time where it needs renovations/refresh to continue to command the price premium that it charges.

If you are looking for a very solid 4 star resort, CSA is a great choice.

If you are planning a visit to CSA, I recommend you take note of Sammy the taxi driver, very professional, well dressed and very attentive even as to suggest to us some other non tourist places we might want to visit (roaring river). He is fully licensed to drive tourists around, picks you up at front door of hotel, drives well, waits for you while sight seeing (held our towels when we went to Dunns River Falls and is competitive. We got the sense he is always looking out for his clients safety when with him. Why take a bus to sights around the island when you can have a personal driver/tour guide for the same price, this allows you to take your time and not have to wait after other people. Travelling this way was enjoyable for my wife as she can sometimes get nauseated in a stuffy bus. You can call/text him at (876) 360-0425 if of interest.

Room Tip: Room on top floor of 3 story building (these buildings are the newer buildings on the property)

First stay at a Couples resort and first trip to Jamiaca. The highlight of this hotel is definitely the beautiful beach. The 7 mile does not disappoint.

Room: We had a GVS and we enjoyed it. We did hear a bit of street noice but we left air conditioner on during the night and it was fine. Our room was beside the lobby and yet we were unable to get WiFi. It would kick you off constantly - if you were lucky enough to connect. I did mention this to the front desk but they did not seem to care. He just shrugged his shoulders. Our GVS in the “older section” had an updated bathroom, always cleaned spotless, cathedral wood ceilings, wood slat blinds and lots of windows, comfortable bed and a fantastic veranda. The fridge was always stocked and even had clamato :)

The Beach/Pool: Beach is amazing. Lots of chairs and it was never an issue for shade. The palapas (sp?) you are not getting unless you are up and at the beach before the crack of dawn. It was kind of sad as many sat with belongings on them but empty for many hours during the day.

The pool is in need of a major reno.. broken off pool tiles, rust on stands of bar stools, etc. Not a very attractive area. As for the green flag service.. more of a miss than a hit. We most times had to go and get our own drinks as no one usually came by.

Food: The food was good. The only bad meal we had was at Lemongrass. The Feathers restaurant was alright. The buffets & al a carts were good and the food was always hot. My favorite thing was lobster on lobster night… nice size tails and delicious.

Entertainment/Staff: The steel band was fabulous. We were able to catch it at the palms as they did not have the beach party (as they had it earlier in the week for Bob M bday) so that was disappointing.. I think they should have also offered it on their regular Friday night too. Other than the steel band, any other bands/entertainment we seen played country/American music and I had hoped for more Jamaican/Raggea and cultural themes. The staff were all nice. They all seemed to work very hard and most had a friendly smile on their face.

Excursions: We enjoyed the hotels snorkeling trip and the Catamaran cruise was a blast.

Overall it is a very nice resort on a beautiful stretch of beach. Would I book there again? Probably not - but only because we like to try new places.

My husband and I stayed at CSA 2-3 through 2-10-2013. This was our first trip to CSA. We have previously stayed at CN.
We took the Air Link flight from Montego Bay to Negril. We really enjoyed our flight and sight seeing. Our pilot was awesome. He flew over the resort and went all the way past Rick's so we could take some amazing pics! We will definitely do that again!
CSA did not disappoint! The beach was amazing as well as the green flag service on the beach. Rooms were spacious and kept very clean. We stayed in a GVS (3108) and loved our room. We had walk out room with views of the gardens and the sea! Noise from the road did not bother us a bit.
The sports complex was an added bonus! Spin class was great. Smoothies after a workout are a must...so good!
The sea is so beautiful. We saw star fish and sting rays in waist deep water! Water sports activities were very good and the crew were right there to offer instruction. Snorkling was a lot of fun. Catamaran cruise and their staff were amazing. Be careful when swimming through the caves not to touch bottom. One gentleman on our cruise stepped on a sea urchin...OUCH!!
The food was wonderful. Patios for breakfast and lunch was great. We really enjoyed the pizza and pasta there. Feathers and lemongrass were delicious! Sushi and sweet potato chips at sea grapes are a must! Jerk chicken at the grill was better than we remembered from CN. The only disappointment was we went to the palms for lobster night and had very slow service. We waited almost 2 hours for our food and we did not get what we ordered. The pasta bar at the Palms was delish! Music during meals at the Palms was nice.
Nightly entertainment was a disappointment. We went to the piano bar and disco one night and had a lot of fun. There is so much fun to be had throughout the day that we were ready for bed shortly after dinner.
We fell in love with Jamaica and their people in 2006. We chose to return to Jamaica for that reason. Some of the staff, particularly the wait staff seemed to be inconvenienced by the guests at the resort. We noticed a lot of employees bickering at each other. Last time we visited the staff were SO friendly but that was not the case this time. Hope Couples can fix this problem and engage their staff once again. This is not to say all staff were this way, just enough to make us notice. We will definitely be back!

Cant wait, it will be next year. Love love love forever, music, beach and people, if I will get reach one day I would love to live there forever.

Room Tip: Fantastic.

Returned to Couples Swept Away for second time, February, 2013. Mitch at TripGuy.com did wonderful job arranging everything, and I mean everything except pack our bags.

Couples Swept Away is an "All Inclusive" resort with a capitol "ALL!"
It will make any Minnesotan "Turn That Frown Upside Down!"
Many of the Couples' staff remembered our names from last year.
You are greeted by a warm "Welcome Home!"
Exceptional food and entertainment and, of course, Jamaican Rum and Rum Cream.
Perfect climate, not too hot, not too cold. Just one rain shower for 2 hrs and the rest Sunshine.
Great time to be away from sub-zero temperatures and multiple inch snow falls.
Cannot wait to return again next year.
Greg and Jean

Room Tip: Garden Veranda best bet for privacy and quiet.
