“Great local taste”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2010

Had dinner at Alice's last night. The music inside was too loud so we sat on the patio despite the gathering clouds. Service was prompt and the meals and drinks were very good -- as well as generous in portion. The curry goat was excellent: it tasted more like a black-pepper curry than an indian or thai curry.

After the meal, the owner -- who constantly chats with the customers to make sure everything is allright, sat down with us and told us the story behind the restaurant, its name and the staff. Apparently, everything is locally sourced from farms and markets in the mountains and the profits are shared amongst all the employees, helping to support a total of 24 kids.

“GREAT PLACE”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2010

I love this place. The food is great. We went for dinner, great brown stewed chicken. The food was so good we went back the next morning for breakfast. I ordered the lobster omelet, which was the best in Negril. Had great conversation with the owner Bobby and the worker Slim. I highly recommend this restaurant.

“A Dog Pit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2010

Worst of our meals on this our 7th trip to Negril over 20 years. The owner was obnoxious, the food okay, the large puppy German Shepard was nipping at customer's body parts and clothing and tore into this girl's turquoise dress, and she had to get those canine teeth out the garment, after paying their check on the way out. I really cannot believe Trip Adivsor allows 16 excellent reviews and one bad one, which the owner told us about getting a review or two rescinded. Ob nox ious. My curry was without curry it seemed, tasteless. The salad was very weak, compared to the same priced gourmet salad across the street at Tensing Pen. This place is a dump in dirt. The owner is proud of his (dirty) concrete floor. My "seating" was a very thin wobbly bench, rocking throughout the meal so I didn't fall off. This restaurant again is just a dog compared with the competition. How in the name of JAH could this place be number two in Negril??? Just steps away is the best food on the Island Ros Rody Veg out of a tiny roadside stand. All cabbies from throughout the Island eat there -- not at Alice's, a tourist trap if I ever was in one.

“Oh so yummy!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2010

We spent three days in the cliffs at Tensing Pen, and we ate at Alice's right across the street two of those evenings.

The first night we had curry conch and curry chicken (de-bone.) We didn't think it could get any better. It was delicious.

The second night we had curry chicken (de-bone) and Chicken Lola. The Chicken Lola was absolutely fabulous, my favorite!

We sat each evening and chatted with Bobbie, what a great guy!

I'd recommend Alice's to anyone looking for some authentic, home-cooked Jamaican food. Yummy :-)

“good vibes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2010

Stopped by in Jan and had some great food and conversation , beautiful time of year to be sitting outdoors eating good food at a reasonable price under the stars. Missed Clovis this year , still good vibes , see you next year P.S. give the fried chicken a try it was great , but ask for the sauce on the side
