Rooms is a nice place to stay if you want to steer away from the spring break and nude crowd. It's very eclectic in it's clientele.
The rooms were clean and modern. Sometimes there were issues with them getting cleaned very late in the day, and sometimes no hot water or water pressure. But, it was really not too big of a deal most of the time.
The breakfast is really boring but it serves it's purpose, fruit, toast and coffee. We wandered off a couple of days to Selina's just up the road and that was a welcome change.
Gardenia is totally the man! He should become the manager. He is an amazing ambassador for Jamaica! LOVE YOU MON! The rest of the staff is hit or miss, some very helpful, and others not so much.
Just go with the flow, slow down and relax ... you are on Island time! Rooms is what you make it out to be. If you are looking for 5 star service you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a clean hotel/resort without all of the frills and treat the staff with the respect they deserve, they will return the kindness tenfold.

OH, and please check out Peter's Place which is right next door and say hi to our friend Tony. He is a keeper!

We stayed the last week of January. 2 couples from Montreal. Our friends lucked out with a second level room over looking the pool facing the ocean. Because they were on the second floor they had a high vaulted ceiling along with a much larger room than ours. But whose to complain when you really don't spend all that much time in there anyway.
The one thing we noticed was that the rooms have very "heavy" doors and when folks come home late at night they have a tendancy to let the door slam and wake up the neighbours.
The other thing we would recommend is that they purchase "fitted" sheets for the mattresses - very annoying when you end up sleeping on the bare mattress.
The restaurant was a disappointment to be sure but plenty of other choices available all around the property.
The beach was raked most times I can remember while there and folks just did not use the pool. Much better to be down by the ocean enjoying the sounds, sites and action.
Nice having an ice machine on site to stock our cooler bag with while we kept the Red stripes cold. Also for those needing the service you could do your own laundry - nice washer and dryer available for those who needed it.
If I get the chance to take advantage of the price we had, we would stay there again for sure!

After reading the January reviews, I wasn't sure what we would encounter when we arrived. We were very pleasantly surprised. The location was great as most reviewers had said, but the rooms themselves were very nice. I love the wooden doors, bathroom fixtures, etc. Our in-room safe was an added bonus, ours worked fine. We were never shorted towels, in fact, one day we had a pool towel left for us as a bath mat (our shower door didn't always shut tight, could've been our own fault). The bed was fine, we had a view of the small parking lot, but we didn't bother asking for a different room because we're there for the beach and the ocean, not the room. When we checked out, the front desk clerk seemed surprised that we stayed in our assigned room all week. No problem. We ate at the restaurant several times. The food was very good and it didn't take that long to have it prepared. Remember...they are cooking from scratch, not flash frozen and deep fried. All of the bartenders and waitresses were very friendly and helpful. And yes, Gardenia is a wonderful young man who tends the gardens and grounds and does a great job at it. You can tell he enjoys his work. The vendors mentioned before were out and about, but never bothersome. Just acknowledge their presence and they will leave you alone. Respect.
They are improving and adding as they go. Remember, they haven't been open that long. They've even added live music on Thursday & Saturday night. Lots of fun. Give them a try. The only thing I wish they had was a bigger bar area on the beach itself.

This hotel is a great place to stay. I was concerned about the negative reviews I read but I found that they were wrong. this is not a luxury resort but the staff are friendly and they are always willing to work out any issues you may have.

I did not eat at the resturant because most of the reviewers said to avoid it,towels are slow to get to the rooms after they are picked up by housekeeping but other that that it is a great place to stay. It is in the middle of the main strip and there are many restaurants, bars and jerk stands to sample.

I was concerned about two vendors who sell their goods right next to rooms, previous reviewers had said that these individuals harrass or bully the guest and act like they "own the beach". While I was on the beach I did not observe any bad behavior from any of these two or any other vendors. The vendors are there but they do not harass you ,if you say you don't need anything they just move on so go and enjoy yourself.

I do have some words of caution for all visitors to Negril, when you walk out to the beach from rooms,to the left ,about four hotels down thete is a guy with a jerk stand he's close to alfred's but he's on the beach. This guy is running a scam when you go to make a purchase with a large bill, mine was 1000J, he says he does'nt have change so he sends someone or goes himself to get change. When he comes back he gives change for a smaller bill and says the smaller bill is what you gave him. I knew that I gave the guy 1000J but I was'nt going to argue on the beach at night for 500 J it just was'nt worth it.
The same thing also happened to my wife at the airport while we were buying liquor at sunshine liquors, the cashier robbed her 20US so be carefull with your money, keep your eyes on it at all times.
Keep a seperate set of money in one pocket and use that money, when it runs low replenish it from your wallet don't keep going into your wallet everytime you buy something, don't advertise your money .Keep 500J bills and always have change, exchange your money (at the cambio) into J's you'll get more bang for the buck.
Single women, don't drink with reckless abandon because people will take advantage of you and if a male approaches you to dance or tries to pick you up and you are not interested don't de afraid to say NO! this goes for the men too, because you are on vacation it does'nt mean that your common sense has to take a vacation too.

The Jamaican people are friendly and hard working and most are glad that you came to their country, you'll always be greeted with a hello and a warm smile. There are a few bad apples but everywhere you go,you'll find the same thing. You'll love Jamaica so go and have fun.
I used kenny (kennyjamaica@gmail.com) for a private transfer from the airport $120 round trip a cell phone loaner is included in the price. You can stop along the way to get food ,change money etc. Well worth it , it's a two hour drive from MB to Negril.

My wife and I stayed at Rooms Negril from Feb13th thru the 22nd and had an upper level room with a balcony facing the walkway, it was an awesome room and their were almost no problems except with a bath towel shortage after they cleaned a couple of times, bed was comfortable water was hot, it would be hard to complain about the room. The staff was great also always asking if all was good or if we needed anything. We did not eat at the restaurant much with the exception of breakfast every morning and it was all you can eat and drink continental and was always good. and the problem guy at the west end of the property if you had a problem with him you were messing where you shouldn't be anyway, no problems here their are one of those guys next to every property. the beach was beautifull and wide, plenty of sun or shade and a nice pool that does not get used much. I don't know what else to say except we are definetly going back! as long as they don't raise the price too much.

Rooms on the Beach: Negril

Clean, modern rooms. Great beach area without vendors and other non-guests. Then, great access to the water and public beach in front of that nice area. The included breakfast was fine. If you bring an jar of peanut butter or some fancier cereal, you will do just fine.
I thought the place provided outstanding value for about $100 per night.

We just got back from staying at Rooms Negril from February 14th-21st. We took a private transfer with Kenny, and he was waiting at the airport when we arrived. Our check in went smoothly, and we got the ocean view rooms we booked. The continental breakfast is not much, toast, fruit and coffee, it worked for us. The restaurant does serve lunch and dinner, it will do in a pinch, we had lunch and a dinner there...food was good. They have so many wonderful places to eat that are walking distance, so that worked out perfectly. Mom's Place has a good menu on Wednesday evening, lobster night, well worth the $16.00..... Tree House, has wonder lobster pizza.... Aqua Negril, has wonderful drinks.........stop in and see Linton........ The beach is awesome.. you can sit behind the 3 foot wall, or move your chairs on to the beach... the vendors come by, but are not pushy at all.... you just tell them no thank you... We brought a soft side cooler, and walked to the local supermarket and bought beer and filled our cooler daily... the resort had no problem with this; in fact they helped us with ice daily. Rooms Negril is located in the middle of the seven mile beach, so you can walk either way and find so many nice places to eat or drink........ I would definitely go back, a nice small relaxing resort........
