This site was a lot of fun to visit, and thankfully it was part of a package. About 1.5 hours from Negril, if you visit this alone you will be disappointed. The boat ride to the bar was taking on water and while it was fun I am not sure I trusted the "captain". Once you get the bar it was really cool, with cheap bear, and is a one of a kind site. We spent about 45 minutes there, which was plenty since you just drank, looked around, and hung out. However, they ran out of everything but the Light Red Stripe, which kinda makes the trip anticlimactic.

That said, this is not a place to take your kids since the bar was mostly locals (and Floyd) and 6/9 locals there were smoking pot and offering it to the people there.

The Pelican Bar is not only extremely unique; which would make the excursion worthwhile if only to behold the unusual site. It also has the benefit of being a really great place to spend a few hours and relax with a beer. When we made the choice to go it was largely because we thought it would be an amazing thing to see, a driftwood bar 3/4 of a mile out on the clear blue water. What we never expected was how completely relaxing and enjoyable the experience would be at the bar. The main building is constructed to roughly the size of an average living room. Inside there is a window where you can not only order beer, water, and other drinks, but you can also order food! Men play dominoes beside the window while others sell items inside. There are ad lib places to sit; makeshift benches and such. I was inclined to walk out on the deck which extends from the bar, where i found a place to sit with my drink and watch the creatures move about the reef below. My girlfriend descended the steps on the building side and enjoyed the waist-deep, clear water. In this manner a couple hours flew by quickly before we fled as poor weather could be seen in the direction of Black River. if you plan to go, bring a sticker, flag, license plate, or something else personal to leave. The inside is covered with relics from many reaches of the world. If you're already on the South coast you must find a boat and check this place out! We chartered the boat "Mr Nice Guy" from Frenchmen's Bay captained by Bernard. He made us feel like we were in good hands. You may see dolphins.

This place is the most wonderful spot you will ever see...very unique and interesting...we drove down to black river and jumped on a boat with Sam...and after a bit of trouble (boat ran out of gas half way out to the bar - and a storm was coming, lightning thunder and rain, we thought it was over for us, but Sam got us there and the rain stopped and we enjoyed our time so much here...we could swim in the ocean, have a rum punch and check out all the flags and items left on the walls from people all over the world. I even found a flag from my home town. very cool...I would recommend anyone who likes to adventure off the beaten path to go check out this place, you will not be disappointed that you went here.

If you are in Negril, you MUST NOT skip the Pelican Bar! We took a boat ride with Lando from a little bar by the Black River Safari about 20 minutes down a beautiful coastline to get there. We were warmly welcomed by the couple of guys already there (it is "off season," so not a lot of tourists anywhere we went), and the vibe just hit us. We seriously could have just laid there for the rest of the week... you are in paradise. Candy cooked us up some delicious kingfish and bammy, and we had a few beers, trying to maximize our time. Bring something sharp to carve your name into the wood with and/or something (a sports flag, t shirt, etc) to leave behind.

Gosh this place was amazing- the highlight of our trip. It's really not much- a small tiki bar a few km from the beach, but boy was it a blast. We payed $25 for two for a boat ride out there. Lobster and fish deliciously prepared with red stripes for less than $20, perfectly blue water up to your stomach, endless sun and relaxation on the dock. We would have stayed all day if the tour guide wasn't waiting for us back on the beach! Definitely recommend for those that enjoy good food and relaxation.
