First of all you take you life in your hands by going to this place. While it may be unique and interesting to go out into the middle of the ocean, it's not safe. I would not recommend this for anyone who has a hard time walking, climbing, swimming, or has bad knees, legs, ankles etc. I have none of the above ailments and yet I found it difficult to climb up into the shack on the single limb stairs!! Inside there were young people with babies, it was very odd and I would not go back.

In December my husband Matt and I traveled to Floyd's . We spent the first half of the day at YS Falls then we went out to Floyd's. The boat ride was about 15 mins to get there. When you are first coming out of Black River the waves make it a ruff ride kinda scary at first but then once you got a little ways out it was smoother.
When we got to Floyds there were about 15 people there. 8 guys from Virgina for a 30th birthday, they were fun to hangout with. We ate fish and rice which had a kind of sweet sauce, which was very good. They ran out of beer due to the amount that the guys from Virgina were drinking. But there was enough rum so I was happy.
An incredible experience just to look out towards the sun and see nothing but water surrounding you. The entire trip for the day was a little expensive about $360 but that included the cab all day, entrance fee at YS, breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, boat, and tips. Was it worth the price? Definitely!

Staying outside of Montego Bay we had to drive a few hours to get to the area, so we visited both Appleton's & Pelican Bar. You will see a lot of signs up with various fishermen offering trips out to the Pelican Bar. We went with the largest outfit and after talking to the owner at the end of the trip was pleasantly suprised that he knew Western Canada and about the Oilsands....not too many people out there know anything about Canada other than Toronto.

Rum Punch & Red Stripe beer was available....2 punch and 1 beer were $1000 Jam (about $12US). Lunch is also available (I believe you have to call ahead). We went outside onto the not so rickety deck and were excited to see Dolphins!

We found the Pelican Bar unique and would have loved to have stayed longer but we went out late in the afternoon and still had a long drive back "home".

Floyd's is a really cool idea and could potentially be amazing. We went in the low season and ended up being the only people there all day. It was really nice but probably would have been more fun with a few more people out there. The other thing is, it's pretty far from Negril where we were staying. We paid Rocky (of Rocky's taxi) $120 to take the 2 of us out there, he actually gave us a pretty big discount from the $150 he normally charges because it was just the 2 of us and he wasn't booked and we booked last minute (like 10 minutes before we left.) The ride took almost 2 hours on really potholed roads and I got super car sick, so take some Dramamine if you are at all prone to motion sickness. Once you get to the spot where you transfer to the boat, you pay another $10 per person for a roundtrip on the boat (about a 15 min ride) to the bar. The bar is pretty awesome, 4 Jamaican guys drove the boat and hung out there with us trying to catch fish and smoking ganja. We ended up spending about $20 on 5 or so beers and spent about 2-3 hours drinking, reading and snorkelling (bring snorkelling gear if you want to.)

All in all, it was a good experience but I guess I would recommend teaming up with some other peeps to make the taxi ride cheaper and entertain yourself more at the bar.

A belated review ...went there in February used Talk Of The Town tours (They are fantastic & that is an understatement). Had a few beers and Fish with rice, we chilled for a couple of hours. It is one of those places that you cannot descibe in words & the pictures dont do it justice. If you are in the area go there...those who have been there will know what I mean
