After losing our holiday when Xl went bust we broke into the savings and booked a last minute deal to Ocho Rios throught tompson.

We didn't really know what to expect as we didn't have any time to research the hotel but when we arrived it was more than we could have asked for. From the moment you step into the massive reception you are looked after.

Check-in was very fast and our bags were taken from us and brought to our room.

The room was very nice, two double beds pushed together made for a massive bed and a very nice bathroom with two sinks, in-bath shower and toliet, all very clean. As was the room, the beds were made up every day and changed every other day and we had clean towels daily.

The two swimming pools are very nice and clean both with swim-up bars. The pool we spent most of our time at was the more active pool, with aqua-aerobics at 12 every day and pool games at 3pm but I don't think this happened at the other pool so it was a bit quieter.

The food at the Riu was excellent, always a lot to choose from with about 10 resturants. Most of the time we ate at St Ann's which is very big and has food from all over the world. They have a Jamaican courner serving traditional Jamaican food, or a wide selection of other food. There was always loads of fresh salad and fruit and excellent desserts, try the cheese cake!!!
We tried the mammee bay steak house a couple of times and my boyfriend said it was the best steak he'd ever had, I had chicken and pork both were very nice.
We also liked the fact that the pizzeria was open all day til midnight as my boyfriend has a big appeitite and he could always get something to eat there.

The best part about the hotel are the staff, all of them are so friendly from the cleaners to the bar staff. Especially the entertainment team (Orlando, Kiki, Jarome, Megatron,Lenny,JJ,) they work so hard and are on the go from 10 am to midnight. If lieing around by the pool or the beach isn't for you they will always have something for you to do. Beach aerobics, volleyball, games, bingo, and everynight they put on a differnet show on the stage. The shows are really good and they all work so hard, we enjoyed the beach partys and the micheal jackson show was really good. We don't have children but the kids club looked really good and they staff were always playing in the pool witht the kids or had there faces painted and dressed up, they seemed well looked after.

We didn't do many trips on this holiday but we did go on the glass bottom boat which wasn't great as the sea was a bit choppy and had stirred up the sand so we couldn't see a lot but they did take us across to James Bond Beach which is were the famous beach scene was filmed and we got to take some pics and climb up the waterfall. We also did the bamboo rafting which was really nice, the guide we had (Crocodile) was really friendly and let us have a go punting the raft and told us all about the area and the plants and animals on the river. These guys don't earn a lot from the tours and also sell carvings they make so if your looking to take something home its a good idea to take so cash or just enough for a tip.

My boyfriend did the deep sea fishing trip which he really enjoyed, they caught a baracuda and two marlin. Although the boat is only meant to have 4 people on it per trip the operator booked 8 people on for the 4hour trip so they complained and they were all taken back out for the rest of the day.

This was one of the best holidays we've ever had and we will deffinately be using Riu hotels again.

My husband and I stayed at Riu for our 15th wedding anniversary from 9/20-9/27/08.

Rooms - we stayed in a junior ocean view suite and really loved our room. A beautiful view of the quieter pool and the beach. Lots of space. Yes the beds are a bit hard but we adjusted and brought our own pillows. We did not notice a musty smell but did bring candles and Febreeze in case we needed it. Housekeeping was excellent - we tipped $2-3 every day and got extra towels and personal touches such as towel animals and fresh flowers on our bed each day.

Food - not the best but okay. We stood in line every afternoon around 4:30 for reservations to the specialty restaurants every day we could and always got what we wanted. It is worth it to do this and usually only took 35-45 minutes out of our day. We liked the Steakhouse and gourment restaurants. The Chinese restaurant was not good at all. The buffet at St. Ann's was adequate. You definitely will not go hungry but probably not rave about the food either.

Entertainment/Bars - the entertainment staff are great and really work their butts off to make sure everyone is having a good time. We attended most of the evening shows. The highlights were the steel drum band and the "fire" show. I liked the audience participation games - they were a riot, but some people may find these cheesy. The bars and the bar staff are excellent with the exception of the sports bar which is in a dark, musty basement. We spent very little time there. Bring your own insulated mug with you to the beach and pool bars and you'll save yourself a few trips to the bars and also keep your drinks cooler longer. We tried many different drinks that we wouldn't have tried if not for the bar staff.

Beach/pools - Absolutely beautiful!! We spent time at both pools - we preferred the quieter pool because it was less crowded and more relaxing. My one complaint is that the pool close too early - 6p.m. However, most every night there were a few people in the quieter pool after hours. The beach is so nice. There were lots of topless sunbathers - my husband needs a new set of eyes now... Also a lot of speedos - sorry but there needs to be a weight limit put on those things, I'm just sayin'...

Excursions - Chukka Cove was offering an online special of 2 for the price of 1 so we booked more excursions that we would have if not for the sale.

We did the Jeep Safari/ Dunns River Falls which consisted of visiting a plantation, driving through different districts, learning more about the land and the people, visiting a primary school and climbing Dunns River Falls - a great tour, loved the Falls!! About 5 hours long

Canopy tour - about 3 hours, great time. A once in a lifetime experience as I am not getting any younger

Horseback ride and swim - about 3 hours, very fun. Sore the next day though!!

White River tubing - a total blast - about an hour drive to the destination where the tubing starts but the guide told us about the area and other facts so that was interesting.

We took a cab into Ocho Rios for $30 and did some shopping. Got some beautiful carvings, paintings and jewelry. We got quite good at bargaining with the sellers. The resort also brings in vendors 2-3 times per week and they set up on the boardwalk near St. Ann's. They were willing to bargain too and had a vast selection of different items.

We also snorkled through ScubaCaribe at our resort. It was $15 per person and we went out for about 90 minutes. Saw several schools of fish, two octopus and two sea snakes. Worth the time and money

In all, we had a great time. This was our first all-inclusive and we would definitely do this again. I do not think we will return to Jamaica though. It was beautiful with friendly people but there are other parts of the world we still want to see.

My husband and I can not express how HAPPY we were with Michael the photographer and the entire staff at the photoshop! Karen was so easy to talk to, and answered all of our questions. She did not give us the " no problem..." she told
us WHAT they would do and WHEN they would be doing it. ( It seemed like it was so hard for any person on the island to give you a timeframe and a bottom line price- we did NOT get this from the photoshop).
MICHAEL IS A WORLD CLASS QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHER !!
He is not some " hotel photographer", he is professional, and his QUALITY of work proves that. He was so easy to work with, we loved every moment he was with us ! The photos show how easy he was to work with also. Natural, and not some posed photographs that I would never display at home.
We paid for the Royal package ( that's 12 prints included), but also purchased an additonal 30 prints. All 42 prints are on CD and we can reprint them , these prints belong to us,and they will provide you with paperwork to prove that. We also have the master copy of all 344 pictures !! WOW !! I had no idea we would have so many to choose from. If we want to reorder, or our friends want to order, the photoshop is so easy to get ahold of to do this for us and them.
If you get married at RIU, you will be SO PLEASED ( please as Rum punch :) ) WITH THE WORK OF MICHAEL , AND THE STAFF AT THE PHOTOSHOP.

My husband & I stayed at the Riu September 20-27th 2008. We had a view of the ocean & a short walk to the beautiful beach. We stayed in a junior suite which I would recommend because you can eat at the specialty restaurants. The room was very nice but the bed was a little hard. The entire staff was very helpful & friendly. There were nightly shows & music that were fun. The resort is beautiful. The food was good but we did prefer the specialty restaurants. I would wait until about 5:45 or 6pm to book our dinner reservations to avoid the long lines. If you have the chance you should go to Dunns waterfalls. It is an incredible site & only 5 minutes from the resort. All & all we had an amazing time & would definitely go back to the Riu! As they say no worries!
