Just got back from riu Ocho rios great spot great staff, a few issues with some ignorant people who bud in front of u, other than that great.Keep an eye on the patio doors lock not the best we put in a price of cardboard to keep the lock from moving, it wiggles open if u shake the door. The trip from Montego bay is 1.5 hours.

We arrived to a beautiful lobby with drinks waiting after a long ride from the airport. Keriane was fantastic, we had a quick check in and were upgraded to the deluxe wing. Enjoyed the restaurants, especially the steakhouse (Maumee Bay) and the Aisan (Mandalay). The plantation and jerk shack were great options for lunch. The staff, bartenders, waitresses and waiters, cleaning persons, were all so friendly and accommodating.
Verona was amazing. She was just a little more sunshine added to Jamaica.
There are two pools with swimup bars, one a little quieter and the other one included the entertainment. 3:30 was crazy games which usually ended with Brady and his Big Bamboo song.
For breakfast after 8 days can get monotonous, but that happens at every resort.
We have stayed at the RUI before and would recommend them.

This resort was wonderful!! To sum up the whole experience: beautiful beach, exceptional ceremony, great staff and delicious food. All 50 of our guest were completely satisfied. Not one person had a complaint. The only thing I would suggest would be that the resort work on having better organizational skills when handling a wedding. Other than that the trip was perfect!!!

Room Tip: I you can, get an upgraded room. Its worth it

We spent 1 week here and our first time staying at a Riu property.
This was our 4th trip to Jamaica.
We found the hotel layout made for a cramped, loud environment rather than a relaxing one.
The entertainment wasn't very good either.
The food wasn't as good as other resorts we have been to and no fresh cooked food in the sports bar was a real turn off. The sports bar had cold nachos and cheese and cold stuff in a fridge with a microwave and coffee that was it.
The other thing was no coffee maker in the room (we brought our own but still)
The mini bar not always stocked daily. In 13 trips to the carribean this have never been the case at any resort.

Pros
Beach is nice
As always the people of Jamaica are the best we have met in the Carribean.

We spent our second week at another property and will return to Jamaica again next year, but I can't say that we will stay at another Riu property again.

We returned on 2nd February after 2 glorious weeks at the ClubHotel Riu Ocho Rios. We were in the deluxe block, our room was cleaned daily and the mini bar (and optics) re-stocked every 2 days which was more than sufficient. The restaurants were all good. The staff at breakfast were particularly friendly and always had time to stop and wish you a pleasant day. The bars were also great, as long as you tipped well (approx one dollor = 80p) top ups were already there without having to wait. There are two pools with swim up bars, one quiet for relaxing with a good book and one where the entertainment staff had everyone playing games and generally being a lot louder. Plenty of beds too. Also the beach is lovely and we can honestly say we were not hassled by any locals trying to sell up things. The bar along the beach Bamboo Blu served the most deliciouos lobster. Worth a couple of minute walk if you fancy getting away from the hotel. We only wanted to do one excursion and that was the Dunn's River Falls. Through the Thomson rep Pauline the price was US$93 each, the diving school on the breach charged only US$43 each, after speaking to others who had paid through Thomson we found the only difference was that you had to catch the coach to the pick up point for the catamaran. We went via the dive school and had a brilliant time, our guide at the falls, Vincent was awsome and made the experience even more outstanding, if you go to Jamaica you have to do the falls. The entertainment staff at the hotel were also very very good. They did not stop all day and all night. Our room was overlooking the main stage and although the music from the shows was loud it finished at 11pm every night. All in all a fantastic holiday and we would come back.

we had a large group attend for a wedding. Let me say that the younger generation were in heaven with the buffet and the all you can drink bars. The jerk chicken hut was awesome for lunch. We had a deluxe room, a bit outdated, they oil the tile floors so they are deathly slippery. The wedding went well, the food adequate. My biggest complaint was the liquor. The red wine was like water, the white like vinegar. The rest of the hard liquor had flavours you have not had anywhere. If your a beer drinker yor in heaven. Would I return there, not a hope. the beach is great. Our elevator was down 4 days out of the 8 we were there. The staff is pretty good.Another big complaint we had was the phones in your room do not take messages, so trying to reach members of the group was a nightmare. The front desk doesn't always answer the phones either. The gourmet restaurants were not very good, the buffet was better. None of us showed for our reservations after awhile. We ate out several times, Evitas, Scotchies, the jerk chicken on the hotel beach was better

Room Tip: ask for a deluxe jacuzzi room on the 2nd or 3rd floor

Vacationed at Rui Ocho Rios Jan 27 to Feb 3, 2013.

I would give this resort a 5 stars except for the price we paid for our upgrade was a waste of money. Next time I would just pay for regular rooms.

We travelled to and from the airport to the resort by private taxi ( Bryon Taxi Service - byrontaxiservice@hotmail.com) would highly recommend this over bus and you save about 45 minutes of time and he tells you lots about island along the way. We used him couple times during the week for outings also.

Once at resort we ungraded to the Club side. This was a mistake on our part. Club side is supposed to be an exclusive area ( pool & bar). The hotel doesn’t not monitor this and people from other side used our amenities all week. So having to wait at our bar for others to get served and not finding pool loungers because they were occupied by people that didn’t belong was very frustrating. We complained all week about it but didn’t see much improvement hopefully this will change in the future. On check out I spoke to management and they told me I should be notifying staff of the non Club members, I told her that was not my job and that the hotel should be monitoring that. So if someone reading this are already going to this resort and paid for the Club side perhaps you might want to consider letting the staff know if you have to wait for drinks or can't get pool loungers. With other resorts we have been to if you didn’t have the right color bracelet you didn’t get served and were not allowed in that area.

The dancers did a great job with their part of the entertainment. They were practicing every afternoon getting ready for night time show. The stage was very small so over all the entertainment not at all what we have had at other resorts.

The food was very good. We have done resorts for the past 6 years and the food at the main buffett was some of the best we have had. The la carte restaurants were average.

The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to do thing for you. At the main bar they were the fastest bar servers I have ever seen. The drinks were good and the wine was drinkable for sure. My sister and I had red wine every night.

The grounds were very well kept and room were very clean everyday.

I would recommend for sure just don't pay upgrade unless hotel starts doing their job.

Room Tip: Rooms on Club side have two different size patios. Ask for the larger patio that was what my sister...
