“Nice beach and convenient location”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

The hotel was okay but could use a face lift. Staff was very nice and helpful.

Unfortunately, it was quite noisy but usually ended at 11 pm which was fine. On our final night (Sunday) there was a very large and noisy celebration which kept most of the hotel from sleep until 1:30am. The staff called police but that didn't seem to matter.

Very urban area so if you want peace and quiet, this would not be a good fit.

We did get a really good deal but will not go back here.

Room Tip: We liked the ocean front with balcony but can hear the music from the beach/pool area until 11pm on...

Ocean-front balcony room is well worth the slightly higher rate. Beach is right there; not deep, but swimmable. Staff are wonderful!!! Very clean rooms. Only toiletry provided is soap; bring your own shampoo or buy there. Restaurant is well priced and food is good. Continental breakfast is ample; staff bring pastries and fruit to your table, 7:30-10:00 a.m. Free Wi-Fi in the pool and restaurant area, none in the rooms. Our door had a problem; the staff couldn't have been more prompt and pleasant in resolving it.

Room Tip: Pay a little bit more and enjoy the ocean-front balcony. At least get an ocean-view room; the back...

My daughter and I have just spent three weeks here! Everything is available "on site" for the hesitant people who don't want to discover the good and bad things of Jamaica. Any problems we had were quickly resolved by the staff who were extremely helpful and friendly. Be careful who you befriend on the beach …….ask for Demar, Germaine or Tony, who you interact with can make or break your vacation here! The beach is public which is great for the locals to enjoy alongside the tourists. Breakfast can be a bit frantic! Lots of supermarkets and eating places nearby and look out for "Lobster Man Richard" who patrols the beach with his daily catch which he will cook for you and deliver to the beach…very tasty! Keep away from 'Nurses" place on beach she really ripped us off! Ask Demar to take you to the "Blue Hole" much more beautiful than Dunns River Falls! Cruise ships don't pose any problems and can be quite spectacular to wake up to. Pool deck area plays Reggae music all day which is great! If you don't like Reggae…why are you going to Jamaica? Thanks to Theresa, Djames, Marcus, Brian, Gwayne (sells fruit on site) and of course Demar and Tony. We had a great, great time, LOVED IT ! XXX

Just returned from a week stay at Rooms Ocho Rios. The last two years I stayed at Rooms on the Beach Negril and this was my first time in Ocho Rios. As a group we were really impressed with Rooms Negril. The beach is fabulous with an amazing location. The hotel is quiet and not kid friendly because there are not any around and there is very little for kids or teenagers to do there. The breakfasts are small but do the trick because later on the beach you will buy some jerk pork in tinfoil or a patty. Negril is fun to walk around with great places to eat. When I booked Ocho Rios I knew I was travelling with 4 teenage boys and would need much more activity to keep them amused yet out of trouble. Rooms Ocho Rios was not quite as new as Rooms Negril, but it was clean, staff was good, air conditioning worked, and the breakfasts were a bit better than Negril. We had the Family Suite MountainView 1240 which overlooked a parking lot and the town. It doesn't have a balcony but the whole door slides wide open so we were able to take everything in. The family suite had lots of room and worked out well. The beach and the water were as nice and as calm as Negril. We were able to take out air mattresses to both beaches. We took in Jet skiis, 2 boys golfed at Sandals, we did the Nine Miles Bob Marley tour with Bobby Brown, we went to Mystic Mountain, and we did the deep sea fishing with Captain Speedy. Find Ken to drive you around... he was really good. His nephew works the fruit stand on the grounds - get some pineapple from him. Ate at the Mongoose, Spring Gardens, Evitas (recommend this for pasta!), and at Rooms. Great trip! Pricey with all we did but the boys loved it. Once they figured out how to say "no we don't need a taxi or anything else OR we are already taken care of (recommended)" then they were ok to leave the grounds on their own.... not sure how teenage girls would do on their own. Probably not as easy for them. The boys were 16 and 18 and certainly apprehensive at first but figured it out.

I just returned from a three night stay at Rooms on the Beach Ocho Rios. I was there with my boyftriend for a quick Valentines Day get-away. I must say, after reading the reviews of this hotel, I was a little heistant to book a reservation here, but all of my anxiety was in vain. I had a great room (room 1212) which was an Oceanfront room with balcony. The room was lovely. I have no complaints. The hotel staff was very friendly and I loved that we were located so close to shops, restaurants, attractions and such.
This is not the Hilton, but it is a nice, clean resort on an excellent stretch of beach. The hotel staff is great, and I could not have asked for a better experience while vacationing in Jamaica.

Room Tip: The pool area is very lively, so if you want a quieter stay, book the oceanfront rooms that are oppo...

We just got back from a two week vacation at Rooms on the Beach, Ocho Rios, a wonderful two weeks in the sun. This Hotel caters to locals and tourists from overseas alike and everyone is made to feel welcome. The rooms are spacious and tidy, good hot water pressure and the housekeeping kept our room clean and well stocked each day, just a note bring your own shampoo as they do not supply it. Our maid was a lovely girl and always looked after us, thank you for that.

The beach takes around thirty minutes to walk so if you do three walks from one end to the other there is a good hours walk. The beach is white sand (manicured each morning) and very protected from any sort of large waves so makes a wonderful place for children to play in, the water is lovely and clear and very refreshing to swim in, it is almost like having your own private beach as many times during our stay it was almost empty, even with the almost daily arrival of cruise ships (which is fun to see) the beach was not crowded in anyway as they had there own little spot to be entertained.

There are the tour sellers who do approach you many times but are always polite and if you tell them you will get back to them after your rest they follow up once a day to check with you and once you have done your tour, tell them and they don't bother you, my personal choice for tours was Kirk who worked from within the hotel, had his own well maintained van and was very polite, softly spoken, a good guide , reliable his and prices were great.

The continental breakfast was more than enough with fresh fruit, cereal, toast and pastries each morning along with tea and coffee and juices. Many local cheap restaurants to choose from and supermarkets to buy cooked meats, fruits, etc if you have a fridge you can keep these fresh for a sandwich at lunch.

The pool and grounds were kept well maintained and not to noisy, in fact every night after ten or so the place was so quiet we left our door opened turned off the A/C and listened to the waves lap on the shore, no problem with the mosquitos.

The Manager Mrs "D" (Sonia Davies) is a lovely woman, if you have a problem go and see her and am sure she will make it right, unlike a previous review I read, the Reception staff are just wonderful, thank you Theresa and Veronica and the others for your smiling faces and good mornings, it made us feel very special. Also the bellman and groundsmen and restaurant staff, great job.

Will be back,

Ray & Therese
.
