“Great!! Can't wait to return!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2004

Just returned 2/29/04 from 6 days at COR. We were very pleased with everything about the resort. Our room was ocean front, clean, no insects, comfortable. The beach is fine...plenty of room, clean and water is clear and great! You should place a towel or other item on your preferred spot early, especially if you want shadier locations.
The food was very good in all the restaurants. The Le Gourmet was excellent, and the service is excellent throughout the resort. Those who complain about the service or staff at Couples O/R, simply will never be happy. The resort's biggest asset is the staff, and service from restaurant servers to watersports staff to management was excellent! Bars are well stocked, entertainment every night, some better than others, beach party and gala pool banquet with entertainment was great! Piano bar great fun after 11:00. If you're looking for all nite carousing go elsewhere. If you're looking for hip-hop/rap go elsewhere. If you can't take a 2 hour ride from the airport in an air conditioned coach with a stop for Red Stripe and jamaican jerk along the way, choose another location. If you want haphazard, occassional service and forced smiles, go elsewhere. The Jamacian's are great hosts, and are genuinely interested in working hard to insure everyone a wonderful experience. It's an attitude and a spirit, "No Problem, Mon" is truly a wonderful way to approach life...you'll get a full dose of it at COR. We won't hesitate to return!

Let me start by saying that we had an ok honeymoon, but we were disappointed for many reasons. The resort, and Ocho Rios was not what we expected.First of all, our travel agent failed to mention the two hour commute from the Montego Bay airport to Ocho Rios. There is a commuter jet that can take you to Ocho Rios, but we were unaware of that. The commute is crazy, scary, scenic, and a waste of two travel days. We were there from Monday -Monday, and lost both of those days to commuting to and from the airport. TIP: the airport transfers do expect a tip. We gave him $10, and it is expected that the skycaps at the airport are usually tipped $1 per bag, and they do expect it! Take plenty of $1,$5, and $10 bills for tipping outside services. The staff at OR is fantastic, helpful and very friendly. The food is wonderful, and PLENTY of it! Although there is NO room service, the "breakfast in bed" is actually only a small continental selection. We wanted to be pampered on our honeymoon, so we were disappointed to find we couldn't order room service, or have a bottle of wine ordered up to our room.
The drinks from the bar are excellent, and tasty! The service was so great everywhere we were tempted to tip, but remembered that it is all inclusive, and no one else was tipping. The room was nice, not luxurious. It was clean, and old, but nicely updated. I would say it had old charm. We had a deluxe ocean view room with a huge balcony.
There was a huge walk in closet with a safe. The beach and pool were disappointing. The beach is so small that the chairs are on top of each other. There are two hammocks, but the beach chairs are right on top of them, so they aren't private, and it takes away from the romance. The water is pretty, but I would compare it to the outer banks of North Carolina. I did not see one fish the entire week I was there. The pool is so small, that there really isn't alot of space there either. The beach is very quiet, and offers NO music, not even in the beachside grill. The resort has an au naturel island for nude sunbathing, but that doesn't stop people from taking it all off right next to you at the beach/pool. If you are grossed out by that sort of thing, I would not recommend going. This resort does not have a night life after dinner.
Some of the activites are checkers, bingo, and a talent show. There were a FEW young honeymooners ranging from 25-33, but I would say the average age range was between 50-70. The honeymoon "couples" massage is not actually a couples massage, it is two seperate massages, and they expect a tip. It's a half hour(more like 15 minutes)upper body massage.
I (as a woman) felt uncomfortable as my entire butt crack was exposed the entire time. We did do horseback riding which was my favorite.
Bring money for tipping your driver, guide, and in case you want to buy the pictures/video they take. Great excursion! We also swam with the dolphins one day. This excursion is not included but was a great time.
Very expensive when you include the cab fare, and any picutures or videos they offer. There are plenty of off site excursions offered, they can be fun, but costly, and it just depends on how you want to spend your vacation. I will say, that it did rain two days in a row during my stay, and there was nothing to do. We had cabin fever really bad! We actually sat in the two seater hot tub in the "jungle" for about two hours just to pass the time. Highly recommend it,it was romantic, and private. Overall, we wished we would have stayed in Key West where we were married. The water was more beautiful there, the resort was more luxurious, and the day/ night life was really exciting. We thought that by going to a tropical island it would be more beautiful, more fun, and more exciting. We're not giving up on Jamaica, we're told that Negril is really the place to be for what we were looking for.

My fiancee & me stayed in this hotel for ten days in February / March 2003. From the very first second we fell in love with Jamaica. We had absolutely no problems with customs and easily found the COUPLES desk in the arrival section of the airport. We waited for app. 5 minutes and than we were escorted to the van that drove us to our hotel. I have to say that the driving was somewhat scary - even for us Germans, but we were in the bus with 3 other couples and immediately started a conversation. We stopped on our way and got the opportunity to use the bathroom and buy a snack or drink (our first experience with the RED STRIPE Jamaican beer - wonderful beer - again: even for us Germans!!!).
After app. 21/2 hours we reached the hotel - we were greeted with damp towels and a glass of champagne. Check - in was VERY fast and we got the first impression of the outstanding and friednly staff. We then were led to our room - no ocienview, but a very nice and private room on the first floor with a beautiful little patio full of exotic flowers. We quickly unpacked & put on shorts & tees and went to explore the resort. YES, the resort is NOT brandnew and state - of the art, but in our opinion it adds to this colonial atmosphere and charm. The pool was somewhat old and could need a remodeling, but we hung out at the beach or on Tower Island anyway. Again, we never experienced such a wonderful staff. Everybody was friendly, helpful and FAST. We never had to wait long. The drinks were wonderful, too - I even thought they were TOO strong and usually asked the bartender to put in less alcohol. My financee did not mind that at all. Next to the staff the food is the other BIG BIG Strength of this resort. We liked the Verandah and the Bay Side best. There were lots of activities, but we ended up lying in the sun and having these great cocktails for most of our time there....One day we took a rental car and drove on our own - I was scared first since they drive on the "wrong" side over there, but it was no problem at all, after you got used to it. We went to the Blue Lagoon and it was very beautyful. I can highly recommend this hotel, but if you prefer a "newer" resort with a bigger beach (the beach was quite small and it was difficult to get a beach chair after about 8 AM)...I would recommend the Couples Negril. Sure, the rooms were a little bit damp but everything was absolutely clean and spotless. I think this is just part of the tropical climat and it did not bother us at all, it was just a part of this charm. The atmosphere was so relaxing that after only one day we already felt so relaxed and layed back as if we already had been on vacation for weeks! Feel free to email me with any questions.

couples 2/1/-2/8/04, Very nice resort, nice beach great service good food. The island is very nice would be great if it had a beach to sit at. We had an ocean front room and it was clean and fresh with a great view. I would say that it is a great resort until 8;00 pm. Then there is NOTHING to do the entertainment is horrible (beach Party was fun) their entertainment staff you never see or hear. The paino bar is ok for the hour that someone plays. The bars close early and the place is DEAD by 10:30. If you are looking to sleep your vacation away couples is for you..If you are looking for fun and entertainment choose a superclubs resort

We just returned from a week at COR yesterday and we loved it. It is an older resort but our room, which was upgraded to an ocean view, was great. The large balcony provided us with a beautiful view of the ocean and the island. The water pressure was great and the water was hot. (I put this in because of some of the reviews I had read.) The property is very well maintained and it is improtant to keep in mind how hard salt water is on things. The beach was lovely but not as big as Negril according to our friends. The food was very good although by the last day you are tired of the buffets for breakfast and lunch, the fried red snapper at the grill is great and we joked about the cheese burgers in paradise. Bayside was our favorite place for supper and is really beautiful in the evening with the waves splashing against the rocks.
Order an appetizer, the soup, the salad and the entree as the portions are small but you can always get more if you want. The best dessert we had was at Le Gourmet where we sampled three. The private hot tubs are very hot and very private. My husbands brother was married there and it was a lovely wedding, perfect in every way and very easy on the bride and groom. They had the wedding pictures the next morning and they were wonderful. We went to Dunns Fall on Sunday morning at 9 AM and were the only group there, it was great! We also went snorkeling, rode the glass bottom boat, took out the hobie cat and went on the booze cruise, which was a blast! All of the water sports equipment was very new. The staff was really really great! All were friendly and more than willing to serve. We did tip them and beleive they earned the money. The drinks were great and plentiful.....really plentiful. Try the Almond Joy and you gotta love the Absolute and Ting! We went with a group of 18 known as the yellow cups. There were couples of all ages and some of our group were return visitors and got lots of extras. Don't miss the two person hammocks! The beach party was fun, much like what you would expect. I can't wait to go again.....yea mon!

WOW!!! Just got back yesterday from Couples, OR. 6 days and 5 nights was not enough. So much to do and see. I can't say enough good about the place. The help is wonderful and very polite. The place is amazing, the food is EXCELLENT - even if your picky and don't like something there is PLENTY more to eat. The drinks are strong and freely offered where ever you are. The beach is beautiful and the room was clean. The catamaran boat ride (other wise known as the booze cruise) was a blast. The glass bottom boat was so much fun - we went over a hugh ship wreck. The horse back riding and Dunn's River Falls was also a lot of fun. The resort is small enough that you actually get to meet and talk to people and than bump into them again and again (if you want to) to chat ...but its large enough that many of the "extras" can be offered (re: entertainment, food options, excursions). I loved the size of it ...big ..but unlike some other resorts ...not hugh ! Its a special place for a couple in love to reconnect. ** As much as we liked Couples, OR ...would probably do Negril next time just to see the other Couples Resorts.

Our honeymoon could not have been better! We decided to get married on January 3rd three months before the date and we booked the honeymoon 2 weeks before we left. After all the hectic planning we both really needed some time away to relax. Couples delivered 100%! The food was very good, people were very friendly, and the best part-NO KIDS! I love kids but I did not want to see a single one on my honeymoon!

It was very romantic. We decided to save a little on the price and book a garden-view room and we could not have been happier! The view from the garden rooms is lovely!

My tips if you decide to go are:

1. Take cash! There are safes in the room so you can lock it up. We took some cash and more in traveler's checks and we wasted alot of time trying to cash the traveler's checks. It is next to impossible, so spare yourself the running around and take cash. You need to be prepared to tip people when you go on trips outside the resort so bring alot of fives.

2. Dunn's River Falls is a disappointment. It is a huge tourist trap and if we knew it was that bad we wouldn't have gone. It really crowded! I could see how it use to be really beautiful but I felt like cattle!

3. Take a bottle of champagne to the 2-person hot tubs in the jungle at night. It is sooooo romantic!

4. Have fun!
