Guess it is only open when cruise ships are in town, but even then most of it was out of business. Policeman warned us against locals (nice huh, not we are working to make this a better place, but hey the locals can kill you type of talk).

When no ships are docked at Ocho Rios the Island Village is almost a Ghost Town. The Margaritaville is open and is a BLAST very good food and nice beach. The Water Slide that dumps into the pool at the bar is always fun.

They called us a cab one day, since they use a particular service, and a man came and picked us up and took us to town to shop. We were told that he would drop us off and pick us up at an agreed upon time and we would pay him when he dropped us off back at the resort. It worked out exactly like that! He was very polite, personable, prompt. Not a problem at all!

Island Village is okay for visitors that do not have a lot of time to find what they desire, however for those visiting Ochi that are staying overnight I would recommend shopping locally to find the same items at a better value.

As part of our recent vacation to Ocho Rios we decieded to do a little shopping. We checked the internet for best places and Island Village was recommended. Upon arrival we were surprised to learn from a local that half of the stores there have closed down for good and because it was not "cruise day" only a few stores would be open. We walked though the entire complex and found approx. half dozen stores open and most of them had the same goods for sale. We left disappointed and then then walked to the another mall located about 3 minutes from Island Village ( Taj Mahal ), this place was excellent with plenty of stores and choices and people who were willing to bargin. We came away with some great deals.
