“Great fun, great time, hated to leave.”
Reviewed September 24, 2009

We have been to Couples Swept Away four times previously. This trip we decided to try Couples Sans Souci and we were very pleasantly surprised. Although the beach does not compare with the 7 mile Negril CSA beach, the views, pools and other amenities, make up for it. This all makes for a very beautiful resort.

We have recommended Couples resorts to friends and taken friends along and every time we hear the same from our friends. "The best vacation they have ever had!" Couples Sans Souci's attention to details is excellent. The staff is very attentive, friendly and many knew our names after meeting them at activities or dining.

We hated having to leave and come home. Can't wait to go back.

First the good part of our stay. We met some great people while at the resort. Also the staff was very polite and did everything possible to make our stay wonderful. Absolutely no complaints there. Now the other side of the coin. We stayed at this resort for the au natural beach. For starter there was an old tire in the water at the natural beach. Also the swim up bar reeked of 7 day old stale beer. This was cleaned up after bringing it to the management’s attention. This side of the resort seems to be an after thought. There were 2 pools with the lights hanging down out of the mounting. This seems to me to be a possible hazard. The door on the mini bar was broken and continually hung open. One of the resort managers looked right at it and did not get it repaired. In our opinion there is no attention to detail at this resort. I will say they were painting during our stay. The interesting part is when they painted our balcony they did not bother putting a little caulk in an 8-9” long crack. So a crack we did not even notice before is now sticking out like a sore thumb. Maybe we expect too much. But I can not help but wonder what AAA standards are to receive 4 diamonds. Needless to say we will not return to this resort, and question returning to a Couples resort in general.

.....and I could have made them higher. Every single expectation I had was surpassed, and this was the vacation of a lifetime. Truly. We are already planning a trip back. I truly left my heart there. We fell in love all over again- it's a magical place.

The grounds are just breathtaking in their beauty. There are animals and creatures all over the place, including Charlie the Sea Turtle and newts and geckos and hermit crabs. Our favorite was the parrot near the lobby and E block building. He is quite a chatty little guy! Couples Sans Souci is at times luxurious, but always authentic. It is not the youngest hotel, and this is a tropical climate. We expected to see not-perfect conditions, and we DID see them. Having said that, it is clean, it is comfortable and serene.

The staff here is just like family- I really mean that. The social directors are just great at what they do, but I have to make a special shout-out to Shelley Anne. She was lovely not only to us, but to so many others. The waitstaff is great- loved the staff at Palazzina especially, and the bartenders are also great- we loved Carlan and Orlando. Not to forget the watersports gang: Barrington, Oneil and Dennis were all so nice and so fun!
The office staff is also great. They will help with ANYTHING you need. We didn't love our first room. It was in the D block, on the first floor. It was a bit musty, not well ventilated, and the view wasn't great. We were moved to the F Block, to a room that I would actually live in. It was perfect. The rooms are a bit bare, a bit outdated, but they are truly clean and comfy. I would like to note now---- I kind of brushed off the comments about 'so many stairs' that I had read in so many other reviews in regards to the G block. We are VERY fit but let me tell you- in that heat and humidity, the 75 or so stairs are killer. Having said that, for the views, the privacy, the rooms and the proximity to the Balloon Bar- totally worth it to us.

Entertainment is really great for a romantic-type of resort. We personally don't love super crazy nightlife, but here, it is what you make of it. A couple of the 'showtime' performances were not the snappiest, but enjoyable nonetheless. The Reggae theme night was buckets of fun- the performer was Jerry Jackson. We had a BLAST. The Starlight Gala was also nice, but our favorite night by far was the Beach Party. The food was unreal, the performers were fun, and the after-party was so so fun. Great music and people, and just, an unforgettable night. Day activities are entirely up to you. You will not have staff screaming in your ear as you try to soak up rays and nap goading you into playing bingo or volleyball. SO nice.

Food/Restaurants- We were really surprised to find the food to be diverse, and what was local fare, was spicy and authentic and so darn good. Our favorite place for breakfast was Palazzina. We did room service twice for breakfast- not thrilling. Lunch, I loved the Beach Grill, but hubby loved Palazzina. We did our fair share at both! They are pretty good about having enough for all tastes. We tried all the restaurants for dinner, and our favorite was Bella Vista for the romance- you eat RIGHT on the beach. It's quiet and lovely. For the food- Casanova and Palazzina are both great for different dishes.

Beach- tiny, but gorgeous. It is clean, and you will always find a chair. I don't know how that works, because it's so small, but you will. The bar there is great. We also went to Sunset Beach. It's very 'public' but you feel private. If you go, you will see what I mean. There are boats and fishermen, and other hotels nearby, but you are kind of invisible. It's very cool. The sand is better there, but the ocean is rocky. The ocean sand is smoother on the main beach. We loved that there were floaties on every chair. Nothing like floating in the Caribbean Sea.

Pools- We never used the main pool or the pool at Sunset Beach. These are the rowdier ones. Our favorite was the mineral pool. Oh for heaven's sake, it is perfection. All you see is ocean. The pool is pristine, and usually, it is very quiet there, because it is near the spa. It is THE place to relax. There is also a juice bar there for made-to-order smoothies. And, in the jungle area above, you will find a jacuzzi. I promise you will love this area.

There is so much more I can share about this place. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. I want everyone who is thinking about choosing this place, to choose it. It's really bliss. Let's put it this way: I met 3 couples who said, "We were supposed to leave on Xday" and had instead extended their trips indefinitely. You really never want to leave once you are there.

Do's: -Jamaican Patties at the Beach Grill
-Gym, if only for the view as you work out
-Visit the parrots
-Bob Marley shot at the beach bar, if you are so inclined
-Eat anything that is offered in chocolate- unbelievable
-Explore the property- so many nooks and crannies and romantic hammock spots!
-Bring bug spray, water shoes (for Sunset Beach and Dunn's River Falls)
-Ask for a 'special' when you aren't sure what you want to drink
-Plan to adhere to the dress code for Casanova. My husband had to change.
-Eat at Palazzina when they do Chinese food for lunch- so good.
-Have fun and don't stress! If there is something you need or want, just ask.

A few more things: the bus ride is long, but not awful. Well, the ride back to the airport is awful because everyone is sad, no kidding. Also, we did the Glass Bottom Boat ride, which was fine, and Dunn's River trip, also fine. Lastly, there were loads of weddings while we were there, and we met others getting married in upcoming days. It all seemed gorgeous. I'd do it there too if we were to do it over!

Hello and thank you for your wonderful review of Couples Sans Souci. Your comments are so right. One thing that makes this atmosphere possible is that there are only 150 rooms on 34 acres of land and coastline. Its amazing how intimate and charming this can be. So many of your words describe what we call the couples difference - boutique like style, gourmet dining and name brand liquors, no kids, no tips. And our most admired and precious asset - the staff. It was so nice of you to give the names of those folks that made your stay amazing. Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you home again soon.

Just returned from 5th stay at Couples San Souci. If you are looking for a romantic getaway then look no further. This resort of 150 rooms is situated on the cliffs and winds down to the beach offering various incredible views of the ocean and vegetation from each building. A nature lovers paradise. Lush tropical setting, hidden nooks and hideaways, and quiet surroundings are everywhere. Beaches, both Main Beach and Sunset Beach were clean and refreshing with several pools to suit your mood. The food was wonderful and abundant, top shelf spirits, ocean front jacuzzi room accommodations were clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff friendly and anxious to please. We'll be back!

anything you want for romance can be found here.

if you want a fantastic relaxing resort which serves you excellent food, along with superb blended cocktails with staff who cant do enough for you then this is the place for you. From the moment you get of the plane and walk in to the Couples lounge for an ice cold beer to the day you leave and the manager of the resorts thanks you for visiting them you are treated like you are the only couple in the resort nothing is a problem to the hard working staff here and i mean nothing.

The food is probably the best we have ever had and believe you me we have eaten in many fine restaurants around the world. The cocktails mixed by Marsell and Noxroy are simply out of this world just keep off the Bob Marleys ha ha ha you have been warned!!
The rooms are a bit dated so what, just go outside sit on an hammock get a cocktail and chill out no problem!!!

Dunnes river falls was a blast, snorkling was awseome, the entertaiment team were fab, we also got the beach crew to take us down the coast on a speedboat complete with champagne this was great fun and they took us to places you just wouldnt go and see they do charge extra for this but it is well worth it trust me.
The gardens are immaculately kept by the gardening team and they always have a smile for you when you walk past.
We are already saving to go back again soon you will have a top hoilday here trust me.
