“A Holiday in Paradise!”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

THE ULTIMATE PARADISE!
Myself and my other half have very hectic jobs in the UK and we wanted a holiday which offered complete luxury and relaxation- Couples San Souci was the perfect destination and exceeded all of our expectations!
As soon as we arrived to Montego Bay airport we were guided to our own private taxi and our driver was very welcoming and made our 1.5 hour journey to the hotel very enjoyable with a little guided tour en route. As soon as we reached Couples San Souci we were greeted with a lovely glass of Champagne and our bags were taken to our rooms for us. We stayed in B block – which was perfect for us as we had a beach view and would take us less than a minute to walk to the beach. It was always so quiet and never noisy and it felt more like an apartment than a hotel room.
The food was completely delicious! We really enjoyed eating outside at the Bella Vista restaurant on the beach. It was lit beautifully with fairy lights and candles, musicians that played there were fabulous and I could listen to them for hours. The food was wonderful and the service was exceptional. Breakfasts at Palazzina's was lovely and there was such a huge variety of food choices for everyone. In the evening they have a great pasta station, not only did it smell delicious but it tasted great too! Casanova's was equally as lovely. I really can't fault any of the restaurants, and we were staying for 2 weeks and never got bored of the food. There was always something different to try.
We spent most of our time on the beach reading our books in the beaming sunshine and there was never any problem with getting a lounger. We treated ourselves to the 'Sunset Speedboat Ride' on one evening. This was amazing! We had a fabulous driver and guide telling us all about the history of the Island and pointing out where James Bond was filmed. We were treated to champagne with cheese and biscuits whilst watching the sunset. This was a perfect couple trip and gave us such found memories that we will never forget. It was so much fun!
I could go on and on about how fabulous Couples San Souci is, from location to food to quality of service – it was all 5*! All the staff were so professional and friendly. There were a few staff members who made it really special for us, Ruth who I had 2 spa treatments with, was wonderful and I felt like a new woman after my massages! And both Milton and Carlton were equally as fabulous, they were always so welcoming and made sure we were having the best holiday possible. Couples San Souci should be proud to have these members of staff working for them- we miss them!
We never tend to go back to the same place for a holiday twice, but I think we can safely say – we'll be back here again! Thank you ever so much Couples San Souci, you are our paradise.

Room Tip: B Block is a great location for both beach and restaurants. We'd also recommend the sunset speed...

All Jamaica beaches are beautiful, but what made this resort special for me was the beauty of the tropical surroundings on the property. The cliff/ waterfall area was my favorite spot, but also the orchids near the lobby, the pond... all of it was amazing. It took my breath away. Normally it's the beach that I love the most, but at this resort, I enjoyed strolling through all the trails on the cliff the most. The massage huts are awesome, and the food was really great. They go all out for the beach party and the Friday night Gala. Awesome food. The employees definitely make the stay great, always smiling & helpful. My husband and I had a great time! We didn't want to leave.

We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the rooms in front of the beach/pool A & B area. It had a separate area with sofa fo...

My wife and i had chosen Couples San Souci as our wedding destination back in Jan 2013 and booked through Thomsons Holidays. In one word...FANTASTIC. Between the Jan and departing we had read a lot of reviews on trip advisor (as you do) out of curiosity, and although we were never going to be put off by reading the odd negative comment, some of the reviews did play on the mind, if only slightly. The majority of criticism seems to be aimed at the age of the resort, or in particular, the age of the suites and furniture within. Yes, some items are not 'new' and some decor could maybe do with a facelift, but EVERYTHING in our suite was top quality and we really couldn't fault a thing. We were in Evergreen block(just down from the balloon bar and reception) and had upgraded to alarge twin bathroom suite, with a huge living area and patio, overlooking the mineral pool and gym and with a lovely sea view. The bed was as comfortable as we've ever slept in, the decor was lovely and the air conditioning was brilliant. We really can't describe how beautiful the resort is, and we think this is mainly down to the fact that it is so established, allowing all the trees, plants and other greenery to make it feel like you are staying within a tropical jungle. Also, with at least half of it being built up on the headland has allowed lots of interesting paths, steps, nooks and crannies to explore. Everything is aimed at total relaxation, its so laid back you wouldn't believe. It took us at least two days to 'acclimatise' and learn to chill out properly!! The food was unbelievable, the best we've ever had, no matter whether it was breakfast , lunch or dinner. Although all 3 restaurants were great, we kept finding ourselves going back to the Bella Vista(beach grill during the day) for our evening meal because we just thought it was so lovely to sit at our table with the sea rippling onto the sand literally about ten feet away. The staff were amazing, so friendly, helpful, and most noticeably....happy! They always had asmile on their face and seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. The beach is a nice size, well sheltered, and the watersports on offer are brilliant. One of our favourite 'activities' ( if you could call it that!!) during the day was to just sit at the beach bar and swap between watching the ocean, watching the barstaff and slowly work our way through the cocktail menu..hic...in fact just listening to the staff can be so entertaining, they're really funny. All in all, we had the most fantastic, relaxing 2 weeks of our lives, with gourmet food, great service, and a wedding that surpassed our wildest expectations thrown in to boot!! If any UK couples reading this are considering san souci as a venue to get married, and would like more detailed information as to what exactly is involved, what to expect, what is required etc. then please feel free to contact us direct and we will be more than happy to give you any info you would like. Although Thomsons gave us a great time, they are a little short(and slow) on providing information and answering questions. But we definitely recommend it, its perfect!! We realise that not everyone is going to agree with our review and that some people may have issues with different things, but this is a genuine truthful account of our Holiday/Wedding/ Honeymoon at the couples San Souci.

Room Tip: if you can afford to upgrade to a larger suite then its well worth it. Also, if you're not too k...

I was expecting excellent food and service. I certainly was not expecting sub par food, slow service and trying to emphazise everything on the natural beach. The rooms desperatly need updating and bare minimum for soaps. The jacuzzi tub in the room was very old and looked like it. The caulking around the bathroom looked horrible and they slapped paint on the woodwork to try to make it look better.

Our safe went on the blink due to power failure but it took them 2 1/5 hours to come open it for us. Not 5 star service and when I kept calling all they said was oh they aren't there yet.

They spread the staff so thin trying to have special event dinners that we were left with hardly any staff for the hotel.. The food was okay nothing to write home about much less take pictures. If there was food left from supper you would find it on the breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet and lunch buffet needs more variety not the same food everyday. The fish selection was tuna all week and if you got the shrimp cocktail for supper that was 2 shrimps.

The bartenders, lifeguards and social staff were fantastic as we made our own parties for the lack of entertainment. The gala night poured rained and cancelled the dinner that was outside. It was expected that could happen but they had no plans if it did rain. All the food was destroyed with water and the restaurants had been closed so you couldn't get food.

Guest services is where you make your reservations for dinner and if you want to walk for 15 mins up many flights of stairs call for a taxi service. Walked into our room one day to find maid watching tv in our room...not acceptable.

I would not recommend going here for the money as I am being generous at a 3 star. For the money we paid I really would rate it a 2 star.

Room Tip: If you want an awesome room then you should get in A or B block as the others are quite a climb up...

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort, although we were not entirely encouraged by the content of your review. There were, in fact, a number of points that we found puzzling.

Our resort has an unusually high staff to guest ratio, oftentimes our staff complement outnumbers the guests staying at the resort. Any events or dinners that don't fall within the normal operation are executed by team members on their days off or after their normal shift concludes.

All buffet items are fresh creations. Is it possible that you assumed some of the traditional Jamaican breakfast to be leftovers? Stewed Chicken, for example is a local breakfast favourite and may have given you the impression that we recycling meals. This is not the case.

We have a daily schedule of activities as well as nightly entertainment featuring live bands, cabaret artists, piano bar sing a longs, and traditional folk showcases. We find it very unusual that you were not aware of this as these events are advertised in a number of ways.

We serve a wide variety of fish at our restaurants - tuna, snapper, trout, marlin, swordfish, and salmon to name just a few. The fish selections on the menu are changed on a daily basis.

We execute the Gala and many other outdoor events every single week and specific contingency plans to move the event indoors if it rains. Room Service is also available for anyone who opts not to dine at the Gala for any reason.

We are truly sorry that your vacation experience did not meet your expectations but the points I've mentioned above as well as some of the opinions expressed in your review have left us somewhat surprised.

Best regards,

Nicholas Lynch

Upon arrival, we were greeted with a warm and friendly staff. Our stay was only a week, but wished it had been longer. The food was awesome, lots of it, was able to try different non acoholic drinks. the scenery and the grounds were beautiful. Really enjoy the entertainment. the excursions that were offered was a nice blend of watersports, horse back riding and seeing the dolphins. As this was my first trip anywhere, Couples San Souci would definitely be a place I would visit every year. It is a smaller resort, but it was enough for me and my husband, to be able to enjoy ourselves without a crowd. We met a lot of nice couples, had a a great time. It was a perfect place for our honeymoon. The staff was very outgoing and friendly and answered any of our questions. The room we had, was nice and spacious and we had an ocean view. Lots of swimming pools, little hideaways, and bars. This resort exceeded our expectations. A definite must go to for a first timer.

Room Tip: the ocean view in the morning, is an awesome sight.

After spending 2 weeks at Couples Sans Souci in March 2012, and another 2 weeks at Couples Negril in March 2013 - it was no contest - we decided to get married at Sans Souci.
We are not a young couple and just wanted a simple wedding so we chose their "One Love" package (free with a stay of 6 days - other than $250 for paperwork). The process was painless - we were able to transfer all necessary documents to Couples wedding co-ordinator via e-mail - then wait for the special day.
On our arrival, there was a bottle of "bubbly" waiting for us in our room. The next day we met with the wedding co-ordinator at the resort (Renae) who had us try a glass of champagne to make sure we liked it, then samples of cake (chocolate, vanilla, Jamaican fruit cake - we chose chocolate) and finally we discussed preferred location (the small wedding gazebo overlooking the ocean),flowers (we picked the purple spray of flowers), what music we wanted, where we would like to eat dinner and finally the vows (decided to go with whatever the Minister chose as long as "obey" was replaced with eith cherish or respect).
Renae gave us a full checklist and said she would be there with her assistants to witness if needed and she would escort Carol down to the gazebo.
Wedding day: perfect weather, a little warm but with a gentle breeze. I was waiting in the games room when the Minister - Rev. Black (a Will Smith look-a-like) walked in, sat down with me to check out a couple of last details (rings, etc) then it was off to the gazebo to wait for Carol's arrival. Note: one thing we loved about the location is that, unlike the beach where anyone can stop and stare at the wedding - they rope off the location so it is quiet and very private. Anyway - Carol came down the stairs just out of sight, then turned towards the gazebo.
I had supplied an Ipod with 4 songs selected (plugged into a small "boom-box" they supplied) and one of the assistants turned it on. As for the ceremony - Rev Black made sure it was perfect, and the vows were better than anything we might have written ourselves. The whole thing was fantastic - with Rev black making sure that we were placed perfectly for photos as well (funny thing is we never even noticed the photographer, or anyone else for that matter).
After the ceremony which only took a few minutes - it was off to a table nearby to sign the register, then after a few more pictures we were led to a table with a beautiful cake for shots of us cutting it. Then we and 2 people we asked to act as witnesses were served cake and champagne, and left alone for about 10 minutes to relax and talk. It was a beautiful touch. Then Carol and I went with the photographer for a free photo session around the resort.
From start to finish - everything took exactly 1 hour, but not once did we ever feel rushed.
When we returned to the room - there was another surprise - a bottle of champagne, 2 champagne flutes (ours to keep) a laminated message from family, 2 T-shirts and a plate of snacks.
The next day, we went to choose our photos and after choosing 20 ot 100 to be put on cd, plus getting 1 8x10 printed - the whole thing came to $400 BUT we had a $200 resort credit + a $200 returning guest "Romance Rewards" credit so even our pictures were free.
In the end - we had a fantastic wedding, were treated like royality and made to feel very special, supplied with flowers, the Minister, a beautiful cake, 2 bottles of champagne, T-shirts, pictures and even 2 free 30 min. couples massages - and other than $250 for paperwork & a tip for the Minister - it cost us NOTHING!!!
I can not say enough nice things about Couples Sans Souci, other than the fact that they made our wedding special beyond expectations, and gave this old couple wonderful memories to last a lifetime.
Many thanks to everyone at Couples Sans Souci.

Room Tip: We love the location of the Evergreen block - close to the lobby and not too far from the beach.

We stayed in a Beachfront Suite. The room was very spacious and exceeded our expectations. We would live there if we could. The room had everything we wanted with a very comfortable bed, Jacuzzi tub, a terrace with a beautiful Ocean view, fully stocked mini bar and room service. The grounds were beautiful and always seemed clean. All amenities were included, with no hidden charges. If you notify the resort you are coming for your honeymoon a week or two in advance, they will even throw in a free couples massage at the spa, and a bottle of champagne with fruit and cheese plate. The staff was all very friendly. Some of our favorites were Tony the Tiger at the Pool bar, Peter at the Beach Bar, Tanisha our favorite server, and Luna our housekeeper for most of the week, but everybody on staff from the Servers and Chefs to the Spa Staff, the Housekeeping crew, the Activities/Water Sports Crew, and the Mangers were top notch and went out of their way to make us feel at home during our stay. The food was great at all of the restaurants, and the drinks were just as good. Our favorite thing to eat was actually the Mediterranean Pasta station at Palazzina. The Beach Grill/Bella Vista was also very good, and Casa Nova was nice but a little too fancy for our tastes. The bars and entertainment were a a good time as well. There was always something to do, yet no pressure to participate if you just wanted to spend some time alone in your room or on the beach. We could not have asked for a more luxurious and romantic honeymoon.

Top 10 Extras offered for free at Couples that you would most likely pay for at other resorts:
1. Dunn's River Falls Excursion (Awsome time, other resorts charge $80 + per person)
2. Margaritaville Excursion (didn't do this one, but heard great things)
3. Motorized water sports and glass bottom boat (I water skied for free, fun times)
4. Scuba Diving (Beginner's scuba lessons and trip are included in the price)
5. Honeymoon Massage and Champagne Package
6. Free Room Service
7. Premium liquors
8. Shopping Trips to Downtown Ocho Rios a couple times weekly
9. In room Wifi
10. Fully stocked Minibar (pop, juice, water, beer and liquor)

We had a great time overall and will most likely be back every 5 years for our anniversary.
