In a Nutshell: My husband and I traveled to Jamaica for vacation June 15-21, 2012. To start off, Trip Advisor is the reason we found Couples Sans Souci in the first place. I looked at Jamaica and looked at the top 5 resorts and Couples Sans Souci seemed like the perfect fit for us. We are a laidback couple who enjoys good food, good drinks, good service and beautiful surroundings. We for sure weren’t disappointed with Couples Sans Souci! In fact, we had great food, great (strong!) drinks, fantastic service and gorgeous surroundings. We fell in love with the resort right off the bat; from the first hour we arrived.
Arrival: When we arrived at the airport, we were taken to the Couples resort lounge for a drink and rest (and restroom!). :) We then rode a shuttle to the resort (took about 1 1/2 hours). We were able to see parts of Jamaica. We were greeted with champagne and cold towels when we arrived at the resort. We were taken to our room along with our bags.
Accommodations: We were placed in E block. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We were close to the lobby, Balloon Bar and close to the Spa/Fitness Center. We had a great balcony with a full-size table and 4 chairs, along with 2 lounge chairs with cushions. We used the lounge chairs quite a bit to read and enjoy the rain (for a few days of the vacation). The mini-bar was stocked daily, even with full-size bottles of rum (requested by my husband). We did enjoy the cable TV some. :) Getting a WIFI signal wasn't the easiest, but we used the computer mainly on the balcony for the signal strength. Beds were very comfortable, we slept well every night. No complaints whatsoever for the accommodations. Some say they are a little outdated, but they are comfortable and that is what matters. Maid service was great, too! Took their time, but it was spotless.
Staff: Wonderful, fabulous, couldn't ask for better. We have stayed in an all-inclusive resort in Antigua for our honeymoon, but we preferred the staff at Couples Sans Souci. They went out of their way to accommodate us. They always smiled and greeted us at every moment in our vacation. We have some special people to acknowledge: Gracie Ann, (waitress) Shawna, (waitress) Marsha, (spa) Ruth (spa) and Channing. (Bartender) My husband and I couldn't get over how friendly the staff was at all times. I'm hoping they get paid decent for the service they do for us. They give 110% at all times.
Fitness Center: My husband and I really enjoy working out and used the center everyday we were there. They have a good amount of machines and weights. Very cool inside with towels and water and Cable TV. Nice view of the beach behind us. Great center.
Spa: This being our third anniversary and vacation for the year, we splurged. We both got a Couples massage at the same time in the spa huts over the beach. While we were getting massaged, the breeze was blowing nicely along with the relaxing sounds of waves. Very nice. Massages were great; in fact, we got another one before we left. We both got the Rest away package. Facial, Hot stone massage and salt body scrub. Again, by Ruth and Marsha. Very relaxing and great massages again. We would recommend the spa!
Beach: Yes, it isn't very big, but they keep it raked and clean everyday. We enjoyed getting some sun or being in a hut. There are always chairs for available anytime of the day. They are great about bringing drinks by or fresh fruit picks. We loved the huts, lounge chairs with the floating rafts. The floating rafts are a huge plus! Other resorts we've been to haven't had these and we used them everyday. They are nice to lie on while on the lounge chair and great for the beach. Surf is very calm, water clear and beautiful.
Watersports: Very fun people! Great staff. We enjoyed the snorkeling, Hydro bikes, glass bottom boat, knee boarding and kayaking. Be sure to sign up for events to make sure you get a chance to experience them.
Events: We enjoyed the Starlight Gala (beautiful!) on Friday night, Beach Party on Tuesday night (fun). They set up to the nines both of these evenings, with candles, decorations, ice sculptures, bands, music, and lights. Great food, too! It is hard to not overeat. Couples Casino night was fun, too!
Resort: Yes, a lot of stairs, but it helps when you eat a lot and need to work some of it off. We loved the foliage and flowers everywhere. Beautiful! We also totally enjoyed finding all the nooks and crannies everywhere-to the pond, hammocks, hidden Jacuzzis, trails, and paths. Go explore!!
Food and Drinks: We totally enjoyed having fresh smoothies made everyday at the Pallazzina breakfast buffet. We enjoyed the breakfast and lunch buffets each and everyday. My husband and I aren’t picky and liked all food; especially the specialties they made that were different from US. Casanova was a nice restaurant, nice ambiance and great food.
Activities: We enjoyed the excursion to Dunn’s River Falls. Do this! It was a blast! Take water shoes!!! Regular flip-flops won’t cut it. Take a waterproof camera! We bought the DVD at the end, and 1 photo, which was fun!
Gift shop/Jewel Box: We enjoyed the Gift shop and bought T-shirts as souvenirs for ourselves. (Gift Shop has an excellent selection and great prices, too!) They also have a nice selection of everything. Prices were better than the airport! Jewel Box (jewelry/cigar shop)—didn’t like. My husband didn’t like the cigars or the people that worked there. They were not Jamaicans. (Don’t buy cigars from the Jewel Box). The cigars were cheap and dry. He wishes the resort would offer good cigars. (And not from the Jewel Box)
Mineral Pool/Spa/Veggie Bar: Mineral Pool was very nice. We LOVED the spa and surrounding area. The bar near the Mineral Pool makes fresh juices and smoothies, along with fun veggies and fruit skewers.
Tips: Take a bag for items to take to the beach…we forgot this and bought a very nice one at the gift shop. Take lots of sunscreen and bring bug spray. Take water shoes to Dunn’s River Falls, along with a waterproof camera if you want your own fun photos. Take Crystal Light packets for a change of pace instead of just plain water, juice or alcohol.
All in all, we will return very soon to Couples Sans Souci. We loved Jamaica; it’s people, and the beautiful island.
