My husband and I took the catamaran cruise (run by Island Routes) that was offered at Sandals Grande Riviera. Once we arrived at the Dunn's River Falls, the staff at Dunn's River were extremely helpful. The tour guides put us into groups of approximately 10 people. Each group was led by two guides. The guides got us pumped and excited before we started climbing the falls. Once we were at the bottom of the falls, the guides asked all group members to hold hands and form a chain. This is definitely necessary because everyone needed extra help at some point! When looking up from the bottom of the falls, it is extremely intimidating, and we didn't know if we would be able to climb all the way up. However, we made it!! On the way up, there is a little natural waterslide as well as different natural pools where you can jump in. Word of caution: the water is EXTREMELY cold!! Also, this is an extremely physical excursion. As you are climbing directly in the waterfalls, the rocks are very slippery and the water pressure is strong. You will need to have water shoes; however, if you do not have water shoes, you can purchase these at the falls. It takes approximately one hour to climb to the top (approximately 600 ft). It was an awesome experience, and we were so excited to say that we made it to the top. Once we completed the climb, our guide, who filmed the entire climb, attempted to sell us a DVD for $40. We did not purchase the DVD, unfortunately, and now we regret it. You go down a series of stairs to get back down to the beach. On the way down, there are several vendors who try to sell handmade crafts or try to braid your hair; however, if you do not want to purchase anything, all you have to say is a polite "no thank you" and they will not bother you any more. This was definitely an amazing experience and something that a visitor to Jamaica should not miss!!
