I love everything about Dunn's River Fall, I could stay here all day.
You do not have to take a guide, it's best and more relaxing to climb the falls on your own. When you climb without a guide, you can just sit and relax as you wish. With a guide it seems rushed. It a must see.

If you visit Ocho Rios you must go to the fall. It's BEAUTIFUL! We had an awesome time climbing the fall. Staff was great.

This was fun! Went with husband and 2 teenage girls. Not cheap but we did the falls and got some cool pictures. DO wear aqua socks and just a bathing suit. You will get very wet. Take a water proof camera or put it in a waterproof bag. Or you can buy a $30 DVD or $8 photo taken of your journey. This was a one hour attraction for us and all we did was climb the falls - takes about 30-40 minutes. The beach was small and not overly attractive. Some vendors there but the usual stuff. I'd definitely do this if you're active and the $ suits you! You can rent aqua socks there for $7 per person or buy then for $15 I think. They're not the usual kind but worked really well. Guides will take you up and do expect a tip at the top!

We traveled to Jamaica as part of a cruise. We ported in Falmouth and found a local taxi to drive us there for the day(8 people/$240+tip). The only downside was it was about 70 degrees and pouring rain, but we were wet anyway.

Even in pouring rain, climbing the falls is a fun and unique experience. They have the guides leading groups of 15-20 people. If you can, get to the front of the line. It seemed easier to follow the guide and not be stuck waiting to climb the next section. I had 4 kids ages 7-15 with me.

Be sure to bring your water shoes although they have some for rent at $7 US. The guide (Mr. Wilson) was good but a little persistent on getting a tip. He is happy to take water soaked bills. I guess you can climb the falls yourself but there are a few sections that are a little tricky to navigate.

Once you have climbed the falls there is a "shopping village" with many different trinkets that is tough to avoid when leaving the park. If you are kind and say "no thank you" they are willing to let you go by with just a fist pump ("Respect"). Don't take anything from them or give any names that they may carve into some of there wood carvings.

There is a small food shack toward the exit. Took them a while to cook a few burgers but the food was OK if you need something before heading out to the next excursion.
