My wife and I felt like living in paradise, staff was really great, rooms prepared well, delicious food, everything as it should be. Bartenders at the swim bars were very great and energetic. Loved the Dunn's River Fall, Dolphin Encounter and Bob Marley 4x4 excursions. Tipping policy in the resort is not permitted but be aware when you are getting the excursions, drivers will expect to tip them. We were going to get fooled by the Bob Marley 4x4 Tour driver as he expected a $30 tipping. Do not get fooled a $3 tipping is enough, remember that the resort is all inclusive except for the excursions in which you have to pay for them! Back to the resort, we were thrilled by the hurricane but the staff assured us that we were safe and we were. We regret the disasters done in the resort but a very big well done to the staff that handled this very well. Finally we thank the management that has given us a free vacation!

Our trip to Sandals Grande Rivera has been absolutly wonderful. Constantly approach by employees to check if we were having a great time. Claude and Dennis the Menice ( :) ) at the scuba desk are wonderful and super fun. My husband and I took our first scuba diving experiance , Dennis is the best teacher ever and Claud is the best scuba photographer it was awesome and Captain Winston was gentle at the wheel and always smiling. Nemo taught us how to sail and was so much fun he made our afternoon. Suzie-Ann was super accomadating as our waitress at the piano bar and made sure we were always having a great time. The Dunn's river fall cateraman trip was the best ever. Those guys were awesome and soooo much fun. And last but not least, Rebuilding of the dock is going super fast!! It is amazing how fast they aremoving along. Can't wait to return!!

What an amazing country and resort! The food was delicious and so many options. It is hard to choose which was my favorite! The staff were always happy and helpful, smiling. The photo shoot was so much fun and the quality as good as a paid professional! It was like our wedding day all over again with all the attention :) The resort was beautiful, clean, well maintained. We would go back in a heartbeat! It was quite a trip from the airport but in the end we were glad as the excursions (Dunns River Falls, tubing, bobsledding) were all minutes from our resort so we didn't spend a lot of time traveling everytime we wanted to do a day trip, just the first and last day.

Due to hurricane Sandy we got moved from the hotel originally booked to the sister resort of Grande Riveria, Royal Plantation. Although plantation was gorgeous, our preferred atmosphere was here at Grande Rivera. We fell in love with the bartenders at the swim up bar, they were fun, energetic, and so so friendly. We are booking our entire week here next year!!

Our trip was to Sandals Grande Rivera in Ocho Rios, October 3rd to 10th, 2012. First let me preface my review and say that this trip went from terrific to awesome due to the hard work behind the scenes by Amy McHugh of Dream Makers Vacation Services (www.DreamMakersVaca.com). Yes, you can book your own trips with Sandals and you might get some upgrades on your own but it takes an Amy to make it really special and memorable. This was our third Sandals vacation and first one to this resort after two trips to Whitehouse. Upon our arrival at the Sandals Lounge in the Montego Bay Airport we were promptly greeted by the friendly and funny staff, checked in and encouraged to help ourselves to Red Strip from the tap (we brought Bubba Kegs so we could drink our way to the resort). After a few minutes we were introduced to Stephens and told that he would be our driver. Both of us were puzzled as we were used to riding the vans. Turned out that Amy had arranged for us to have a private car to and from the resort. Now that was simply awesome. The ride (about an hour and45 minutes) was much smoother than to Whitehouse which was made even better due to the nice Audi we were riding in.

The Grande Rivera is different from Whitehouse and not in a bad way. Definitely the staff help create that personality due to their warm, friendly and positive attitude. Of course upon our arrival we had people staring at us in the personal car. We were greeted with cold towels and shown to the concierge lounge. The staff welcomed us home and checked us in very quickly. We went ahead and booked dinners at Kelly’s and Kimonos as we heard previously they fill up fast. We were taken to a jitney and driven up to our villa which was at the top of the hill. We realized then the resort is quite large and spread out. The jitneys are frequent and allow you to get to your rooms very quickly or one can walk. Each one can seat up to 6 in the back. Going down is fine but going up is a good workout. We were given a room on the second floor with a view of a small pool shared by the four rooms in the Villa, trees, bushes and other plants all around. The rooms had been renovated as part of the resort’s makeover and they were comfortable and pleasant to be in. The beds are a large king and very comfortable to sleep on. There was a small room with a wet bar, refrigerator stocked with Red Stripe, juices, water and soda. The 5 bottles of alcohol were not brand names and included El Dorado rum. The shuttle buses between the two sides of the resort run about every 15 minutes and stops first at the Ochi Beach Club and then it goes to the Rivera lobby. We found that we liked the Manor pool, and the bartenders and staff there. We also realized that due to the size of the resort it is a challenge to really spend any significant amount of time at every bar, pool, beach, restaurant and activity. We did the couples massage at the Red Lane Spa and enjoyed it tremendously. Camille and Gwen were awesome and so friendly. We also did the Dunns River cruise and loved it. The cruise stops on the way for an opportunity to snorkel at a reef and the staff do a terrific job of leading everyone to the best spots as well as ensuring their safety. We were separated into groups with tour guides for the climb up the falls. Alone it would have taken less than 10 minutes but the guides stop frequently to take pictures and videos along the way. The cruise back was a rock and rolling booze cruise but it was terrific fun. The crew knows how to party! We also did the glass bottom boat trip which is a great way to see the reef off shore, the resort from the water and get some views of the Royal Plantation next door.
I did post some live posts about our trip about our trip using their WiFi service (about $45 for a week) and mentioned lack of an ocean view. Our travel agent, Amy read the comments and contacted the resort. Next thing we knew Jason was at our door with a bottle of Appleton Rum and an offer to move to a room with a better view. So we moved to a newer room which had a view over the top of the Manor building and we could see the ocean.

One nice thing about this resort is they offer a drink of the day in all of the bars and put the recipe in their daily newsletter. This made it fun to try and if one likes the drink you could make it at home.

The food options are many and very good. Yes, portions are small but this allows you to order an appetizer, salad or soup, main course and dessert to experience all of the options. If still hungry ask for more! We ate at the Marketplace for breakfast (buffet) daily and twice for lunch (also buffet), other lunches were Dino’s Pizzeria or the Great House Grill where one can get terrific brick oven pizzas, hamburgers, and other options. Dinners were at Manor, Kelly’s (great views of the sunsets and water), Kimonos (great food and show by the chef), China Doll (terrific Chinese food), the Beach party (Lobster!) and Valentinos (white glove service and excellent food).

As I said before, the staff makes this resort special…I can’t name them all but we loved meeting Robert who is a deaf employee that has been working there for 12 years. He was especially proud of all of his awards for his work at Sandals. Megan the manager of the Ochi Beach Club was awesome in guiding us around the Beach party and Returning Guest dinner as well as Venicia who works with her. Jason and his outstanding crew in the concierge lounge (Avinash, Charlette, Georgia, Kerian). Ajohn, Andrew, and Monique at the Manor pool and Ricardo at the Polo Lounge (ask for his Bob Marley shot…it is good but lethal!) are fun long staff who are hard working.

I do recommend it should you find a deal with some of the credits they offer at the resort. You won’t regret it. We do plan to return next year and bring another couple with us.
