My partner and I just returned from our honeymoon in Jamaica while staying at the Jamaica Inn. I must say this was the most enjoyable and amazing experiences I have ever had.
Many people have said that I am very well traveled and I have always chosen to stay at the best of the best in hotels, inns, resorts, pousadas, hostels, etc. I love to travel and thought that I had experienced the best in service and relaxation, luxury and courtesy.
We arrived to an amazing room with a large varanda overlooking immaculate gardens, just steps from the sand. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was romantic, relaxing and absolutely beautiful. Everything about our room was beautiful, well throughout and inviting. The staff was amazing, helpful and welcoming as well.
Every evening was a 6 course dinner, fresh fish, Jamaican/Asian fusion dishes, traditional Jamaican dishes, elegantly refined and modern haute cuisine. A band (which the first 30 minutes is kind of kareoke-hokey but after that, they get warmed up and become very good and fun). Every breakfast is served in the veranda (for $5) of your room and we looked out over the ocean, listened to the waves and the birds and ate amazing food, the freshest juices and breads and drank excellent coffee.
Lunch? As we lounged on the beach, the wait staff brought our menus to us and we were served under our palm thatched "cabana" with never ending courtesy, humor, and ice cold drinks. Some days we opted to go to the beach bar and chat with the other guests, the bartender who told stories of Kate Moss and Joan Collins and their visits during his 50 years of employment there, and watch other guests play one another in croquet (never played in my life but fun to watch and chat and sun during an afternoon game).
We were treated as family, having cocktails with the hotel manager, Mary (who has the greatest dog Iandi) in the evenings, meeting interesting people from all over the world, going on a private boat ride with Tony to Dunn's River Falls (We were the ONLY two people on the falls because Tony made arrangements with us for just that) and having a couple's massage at the spa, with champagne over the water, beginning at sunset only to open our eyes at the end to having been surrounded by candles and flower petals to look up at the beautiful starlit sky.
Every need was taken care of, every day was amazing. Comfortable, feather topped beds, beautiful furnishings, lots of fun and truly exceptional.
We will be back every year and have told our friends and families that the only place to stay in the Carribbean is The Jamaica Inn.
