“Amazing Island Italian...Can't Wait to Go Back!”

as italian restauranteurs (scuderia and da silvano in nyc) i'm a bit skeptical about italian in foreign countries...but my father chef silvano marchetto said we had to go and had to say hi to Lella and PG. he was right. Its an amazing restaurant - the decor, the food, the service, and the character of the owners were truly refreshing. hoping i will follow in their footsteps some day and open a restaurant on a tropical island! Auguri and Grazie Lella and PG! Ci vediamo a New York!

“Fabulous Italian food with a Caribbean twist and a Parma heart.”
Reviewed November 23, 2009

Having grown weary of the delicious but ubiquitous local jerk pork, chicken and sausage, we decided to try Toscanini's for lunch the day before we left Jamaica. What a pity - a pity, that is, that we hadn't found Lella Ricci and her wonderful gaff sooner, as all of us were ready to work our way through the menu again as soon as we digested dessert! We had given Evita's in Ocho Rios two prior passes for lunch and dinner, but Toscanini's was head and shoulders above and we all really wished we had found it earlier.

Her menu (personally read and explained in passionate detail) was mouth watering and varied, and packed full of the freshest ingredients to be found on the island (and beyond, it turned out) Lella claims to be brutally discerning when it comes to her ingredients and the proof is definitely in the pudding. (We later overheard her on the phone warning her lobster fisherman (who failed to turn up to supply the makings for the lobster salad) that she wanted her lobsters "so fresh I have to hit 'em over the head with a two by four") Friends smuggle in seeds from the US for her mixed salad leaves and her local farmer plants whatever she gives him with fingers crossed. The extra effort makes all the difference.

Within minutes of being seated we were presented with homemade foccaccia seved with a glug of gorgeous extra virgin olive oil infused with habanero (Scotch Bonnet) peppers giving it a pleasant but not overpowering kick. Sharing several starter plates of the anti-pasti, we almost came to blows over the last bite of delicious, buttery buffalo mozzarella

Of particular note was the Pappardelle (made fresh daily on the premises) Bosciaola, a delicious pasta dish made with mushrooms, tomatoes, prosciutto and Italian kitchen secrets. Divine.

The atmosphere is delightful both inside and out and Lella puts her personal touch on everything. Ms. Ricci is a 12-year veteran of Jamaica, and one senses the affection she has for the island and it’s people, as well as her commitment to putting as much back into the local economy and community as she can. Bravissima! Here’s to many happy returns.

“The best of the best!”
Reviewed November 11, 2009

This is truly one of the best restaurants in Jamaica. We visit Jamaica once or twice a year and never miss the opportunity to visit Toscanini's. The food is fresh, the menu is perfect, the service is outstanding. The small, intimate, almost rustic atmosphere is beautiful. This place has charm oozing from it's walls!

Leyla, one of the owners, is the icing on the cake. If you are lucky enough to have her read you the menu, you are mesmerized by her colorful descriptions of each appetizer, entree, dessert or wine. She makes you feel at home. She makes you feel as though you are her most important customer.

We love everything about Toscanini's!
