Royal Decameron Montego Beach
Ranked #25 of 64 Hotels in Montego Bay
Reviewed March 2, 2014

I spent the last week of February 2014 at the Royal Decameron in Montego Bay. The hotel is alittle dated but what it lacks in luxury the staff make up ten fold. I first would like to say that the animation team are a blast. A special thanks to Kim Kim, Tee Tee, Sprinkles, AJ from JA, and the rest. We went in to this hotel knowing that it was not a 5 star from other reviews. The food was good. We were able to book the a la carte as many times as we wanted. The buffet had good selection each day. We had an issue with the air conditioner in our room at first, the hotel maintenance staff were there right away and fixed it, "No Problem". The Jamaican people have a pace that they live by and once you realize that everything is easy. If your looking for a first class beach you won't find it here, but there are some small beach areas. My wife and I snorkeled out in front of the resort and saw some pretty cool stuff. We did the Cool Running combo tour to Dunns River Falls and we did the glistening waters. I will review those separately. In short we enjoyed both. Chairs were always available as were towels. Unlike comments from other reviewers.

Room Tip: Most rooms are ocean view, stay away from garden view if you can.

If you have an image of a large shiny all inclusive, this isn't it. The Montego Beach is not large, and sits on a constrained site with limited beach not much more than walking distance from the airport. It's seen better days, but that doesn't make it poor value: the food and drink offer is good, the small pools with swim-up bar are good, and the little bit of beach is clean and shallowish, though watch for rocks.

BEST was 99% staff. Very helpful & friendly. BEST WAS ENTERMENT STAFF. VERYYY Special--Sprinkles--Chocolate- - Brittany. MOST amazing -fun-helpful. They made our stay a constant Iree. (All Well) & laughing all the time .Only 1 complaint-FRONT DESK CREW! Not help & very condescending!. NOW: that's out of the way rest was great. Comfortable room(had no ac is PM for 1 hour. MUST Compliment the baggage handler for getting a maintain man at 5 PM to fix. He went all over resort as desk kept telling us 15 more minutes. Got RICHARD. He was great. Got this fixed & a wiring problem & even checked back to find us twice more during stay to SAY Hello & was everything working. After that no more room problems. Stay was the MOST relaxing we have had(except check in was late into & stressful- room not ready on time.). Room comfortable. Pools & beach great. SOME of the best entertainment every night you'll get to see. Great all inclusive. Swim up bar at pool was neat. GET yourself a Covered insulated 2 1/2 glass mug for pool & eating in buffet and shows. Keeps you from getting 10 drinks a day--hold ice & stays cold. Don't want to bring one stop a NICOLE's Gifts just 2 blocks out on right from gate on left side of road for $9. ALSO; makes great Jamaica gift. SEE RAY!! BEST prices on Cuban & Jamaican cigars(HE Will haggle on them & on all items in store).Has great selection shirts $ swimwear. Also owns food market nest door.--they have some great Jamaican only made food items & local papers. Bets side trip(two) All day to Negril up coast. Margaritaville at Negril GREAT Beach -Great food. Well worth trip. Cost $900 for 2. Ricks' next was good-OK-drinks expensive. Best about it was local Cliff drivers & tourists cliff drivers & ONE fo the best Sunsets you'll see. Nest 2 hour trip by nice van for $30 for 2. Took us shopping- into market place where locals shop for food-fruit-necessities etc. Was very revealing. Also took to best outdoor craft market local. Not too pushing- REALLY can haggle over prices. Everything you can want for yourself & friends. FOOD at resort. Good. BEST is home breads. Buffet was better than restaurant . They only have settings in small room at 6:300 PM & 8 :300 PM. BUFFET line open 2 1/2 hors + ALL 3 meals. Very quite-leisure & no rush OR CROWDS. Use seats on outside. All is open air. Great salads & local fruit fish & Jamaican Jerk items. ONLY problem here was most meats dry--Must use the ajus sauces. Eat as much or all little. Also good snack bar by swim up pool bar 12PM to 5PM & 11PM to 1 Am to party after all shows. GREAT MUSIC.at meals by local 3 piece group singing Jamaican songs. Water at beach VG. Pool & activities great. You'll LOVE the wooden lounges at the pool. Comfortable(lots in places & cruses aren't). And beach ones very sturdy too. All have thick pads. Towels provide which can go on trips you make. JUST besure to return to hut or you'll be charged.
BEST small local resort right at Hip Stip. Can walk up to 1 1/2 miles-see everything U want- Modern Casino-Margaritaville -another beach at Drs. Cave & Dolphin show.
GET to Know the entertainment STAFF WELL as they are fun & get you to MOTOR ON!
HAVE FUN--GREAT TIME!!!. BEST BUY IN JAMAICA. Cost us with airfare from home $2428 & eight nights stay. ALSO-you'll get hit with a Jamaican room tax. No war around it. Only need shorts-swimming suit-T Shirts-Sandals & comfortable Nikes'. YOU don't need pants to get into small restaurant . NEED no pants or jacket. 76-86 @ day. Do bring deet as has mosquitos. BRING lots of sun lotion with it as VERY expensive here.
Room Tip: Worst part was too long to get into room 1st day. AC not working-took 2 hrs to fix

Room Tip: Get room near main part of Blinding_ Not at end near pool. Right on Hip strip where you can walk to...

We stayed here for four days at the end of a two week holiday after switching from their hotel in Runaway Bay. This was a great opportunity to see more of the island and also only five minutes from the airport on our leaving date.
The hotel is clean and our room on the second floor was light, spacious and had everything we needed.
The food was good but after spending a week and a half at the other hotel the variety of food seemed limited in comparison. The waiting staff are great and very helpful.
The sea is crystal clear and great to snorkel in. The equipment is free to hire from the hotel.
If you love to lie in the sun there always seemed to be enough beds, shades and cushions. The pools are great and have good quality loungers.
We will definitely consider this hotel when we come back.

This place was fantastic.....we are use to 4, 4.5 not really 5 stars, so this time around was a first for us....not a mistake by any means. We were delighted....don't expect shangralla rooms, they are 3.5 star, but you only sleep there. The beaches were great...the trampoline and floating dock a great idea. But the thing I loved the most was that there were diving areas, off the piers....this was so much fun. The food was great, don't miss the pizza in the beach front snack shack. The service was pleasant. Drinks always cold and a wide variety. Say hi to Bling and Pepper, these girls work hard to keep the up-beat pool and beach area rocking. Nice and close to the airport so no long bus ride with a million stops (typically, when a tour company specifies a 1/2 hour drive from the airport....that translates into double or more, considering the multiple drop offs.) This resort was literally, a 5 minute ride from the airport....and registration was quick also.

Would I return or recommend this to a friend? ABSOLUTELY!!

The rooms are always kept clean by the maid. The sheets, pillows and towels are fresh everyday. The hotel landscaping it horizontal (if you know what I mean. No not innuendo) So as soon as you leave your room. Take the stairs (3 flights) or the elevator (4 people max) You're in the lobby and 20 steps away from the lawn chairs, bar, pool, sea and sunshine. Now unfortunately you can't take a long walk on the beach because from one end to the other it takes about 2 minutes if you walk slow. They have 3 long piers you could walk out on and get a nice view of the Caribbean sea and the beautiful resort. The beach was the lease of my worries because the entertainment crew kept you busy if you're an active and spontaneous person. Their activities are actually really good and always fun. I participated in all of them and always had a good time. Snorkeling was probably the best part. You can literally snorkel right off the resort for 2 hours and never get bored. So many things to see. So many fish and rocks and creatures. Awesome! If you get the chance to go to Negril (1 hour away) Do it. They have a beautiful beach located : Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Negril. It's lovely there. Drinks and food aren't included but it's beautiful. Also go to RICKS CAFE. Again drinks and food not included but the food it good and the CLIFF JUMPING IS BREATHTAKING AND FREE!

MY TIPS AND COMMENTS !!!

•Always wear sandals. Always. On the patio. In the room (slippers/socks) and sandals in the shower.
•Delicious drinks.
•Great activities to keep busy and that are actually fun to participate in.
•Room is always kept clean and fresh
•Food is delicious. If you like omelettes. Get an omelette. Their DELICIOUS.
•The hip strip is beautiful. Their pushy. Don't be scared. They wont hurt you. Just don't go down the one alley they have with shops. I don't know what's down there so i stayed away)
•EAT JAMAICAN PATTIES. Their very good. Try the cheese one.
•Ask for a beach view on the highest level if you can. It's beautiful.

My husband and I just came back from a week at the Royal Decameron and we couldn't be happier. We were greeted by smiling, friendly faces at check-in and it was very prompt. Our room was nice and had a fabulous view of the ocean. We were given the opportunity to check out our room and see if it met our satisfaction before completing check-in which we really appreciated. It was not the Ritz, but it was as expected at a 3-star resort which was what we were paying for. It was clean and comfortable with a nice view and that's exactly what we were looking for so we were not disappointed in the least. Housekeeping did a great job of keeping the room clean and stocked with fresh towels and the toiletries. There were plenty of bars (even a swim up bar) with many happy bartenders who always made sure you were having a good time. They have a buffet restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offers a wide variety of delicious foods. There is also a beachside grill that offers burgers, hot dogs, salads, pizzas, etc. that is open for lunch and then late night. Then there is the Souk Restaurant which requires reservations. They have a 6:30 and an 8:30 seating. We ate there once and the food was very good there also. There are many water activities you can enjoy - snorkeling, paddleboats, kayaks, water trampoline, windsurfing, hobie cat. They will take you out on the hobie cat if you don't know how to drive one yourself. Just please be sure to tip him. They also have activities going on all day - trivia, beach volleyball, water aerobics, and many other fun games usually around the swim up bar area. All of the employees were so friendly and acted like they genuinely wanted you to have a fun vacation. We plan on going back next year and this time we'd like to stay for two weeks.

Room Tip: We were in Room 203 which was kind of close to the band area. The band does stop at 11:00pm but if...
