Just got back from a quick MBJ getaway. When we go international, we try to stay with local properties wherever we can. It gives us a much better feel for our destination and allows us live like the locals live. We have also met many great hosts as well as guests over the years. So much more fun to us than the big mega-resorts with 5,000 American tourists complaining about things. First thing you need to know about Emerald View is that it is an expensive ride from the airiport. @ $35 each way. The property itself is nice. I had one of the smaller rooms with AC. My room and bathroom were spotless with a nice view of the hillside. You will want the AC option and I rarely say this. The view from the property down to Montego Bay is very pretty and you can watch the cruise ships sail by. There is a small pool on premise but it needs to be cleaned more frequently. The website is a bit misleading about the 12 min walk to the most beautiful beach in Jamaica. It is quite a bit more than that and it is not a beach. Where the hotel van takes you is Chll Out bar which is located on a mangrove estuary. The water is very clear, but again, this is not a beach. You can get in the water but you are not going to like it. The bottom is very soft and hard to walk on without constantly sinking. You will also pay cruise ship prices at this bar. There is a little shack bar just on the other side of the wall with a bit better water and drinks that are half price. I will say that Bernice at Chill Out makes quite possibly one of the best and most lethal rum punches in this hemisphere!! She is also a blast to talk with. Emerald View has a little bar on property that has rum and beer. Whoever is working will help you with what you need and keep a gate count for you each day. Be sure to verify each night what the actual count is to avoid checkout problems. I did not dine with them so I cannot speak to the food. You are isolated at this property-which can be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. There is not really any walking into town for food or shopping. They will run you in the van if there is somebody available. Montego Bay and the Hip Strip are a $25 R/T per person. Jennifer and her staff work hard to make sure you have a good stay. Nadia went way out of her way to help me at check in.

Room Tip: A much better place if you have a rental car to get out and about.

Emerald View was a place that stood out to me once I read all the fantastic reviews. It truly stood out to me because it wad exactly what I was looking for in a place to spend 2 weeks away from work and rainy England!! The staff are so lovely. Duran picked us up from the airport with a huge smile and started the trip off with a great first impression. ALL the staff and members of Mss Jennfers family were soo helpful, even though I'm sure they were sick of us by the end!!
The trips to do excursions do end up adding up, but we were prepared for that. Martha Brae River Rafting IS THE BEST TRIP to do!! And probably the cheapest as well.
I woke up every morning at 6:30am to go out on our balcony and drink coffee! (which overlooked the Ocean... A must!!!) Miss Jennifer gave us Room 1, which is basically a suite.. It's absolutely gorgeous. High ceilings, a big balcony, a big four poster bed, and big airy windows. Also has 2 AC systems in case the heat takes over. I am so impressed with Emerald View.. Every single member of staff was so smiley, so warm, and so friendly.. On our last night, my boyfriend asked for a nice meal and they even put candles and music on in the dining room for us, with flowers picked from the garden on the table...it was so thoughtful and it made me cry! You will also meet the little girl Anna, who is absolutely the cutest little doll you have ever seen in your life! If you are looking for somewhere Romantic, down to earth, and away from the touristy Hip-Strip, you mustgo to stay with everyone here. And Miss Christine will make you the best breakfast you have ever eaten.. !!!

Room Tip: Ask for Room 1!!!!!!! :)

I get tired of staying at typical resorts becase I felt like that expererience was nothing more than taking a trip to a different place just to get service you could receive in your own country on a resort…nice but monotonous. To me you don't really get to experience that culture. My brother and I decided we wanted to start taking trips to places were you could truly experience the culture. This was it!! Being located in a residential neighborhood and having staff, drivers and caretaker all very willing to impart years of experience of what the island had to offer and the best ways to maximize your stay was the best. I felt they adapted well to every personality type and helped customize a good experience for you if you wanted to travel outside the villa. This of course does require money for transportation which can add up due to ever inflating gas prices but was manageable. Inside the house you could order authentic food and is was homemade in front of you. All in all this is the best vacation I have had in a while. ,,so if you want to experience the culture for what you really are coming down for and have an open mind this is definitely the place to go.

If you want the true Jamaican hospitality you need to stay at Emirald View. The place has magnificent view of the island and the ocean, the staf are basically your family and treat you as part of their family.
Emirald view is the place I'll go back every year for some RR and TLC.
The price is very reasonable and affordable. If you want to have a taste of Jamaican hospitality this is the place to go.

Nestled in the hillside of Greenwood, Emerald view guesthouse is splendid isolation, affording a delightful view overlooking the emerald bay. This small, intimate resort, offers all the convenience of the bigger impersonal establishments on the Island, except that Emerald view affords a little bit of genuine Jamaica. Up here in these hills it is not far from the natives. Greenwood is a small respectable community between Montego Bay and Falmouth. The Hotel is about twenty minutes from Montego Bay Airport, and about ten to fifteen minutes driving to Falmouth. Falmouth is a cute little market town, once home to the Barretts. Elizabeth Browning’s Grandfather owned the coastland that created Falmouth. Georgian architecture is ever present in this picturesque town. This is only one of the many places of interests within easy reach from Emerald View resort; a stone throw from Greenwood Great House. Emerald View is a cozy, comfortable guesthouse; a lot of thought has gone into creating an exquisite ambience, evidence by the collection of painting and art works that are on display depicting the flora and fauna, images of rural life and the people of Jamaica. Art is the essence of this place; at intervals during the day there will be some one softly tinkling on the baby grand in the lobby. The staffs at Emerald are gentle, caring, kind and friendly people, who values the comfort and contentedness of their guest. They create a tranquil and restful atmosphere that is rejuvenating and relaxing. There is a fabulous garden with hammocks hanging between palm trees, and a swimming pool, which is all fantastically enticing, making it extremely difficult to leave, you could easily spend the day here. All together Emerald view is a home away from home. This is the ideal place for a family vacation.

The Emerald View is the place to stay if you are looking for something intimate, homey and extra-ordinary! I enjoyed every minute of my stay! It's a B&B, but so much more. The rooms were spacious, and felt more like a bedroom than a hotel room. There's ample cable and wi-fi if you plan to spend time in your room, but, since you're away from the crowd and nestled on a hillside, you'll want to spend your time out by the pool or sitting in the garden. While you don't have a fitness center or gym like a resort, you can take a walk (or run) down the hill, and end up meeting the neighbors, watching a pick-up soccer game, or visiting the local supermarket. Jennifer, Duran, and Cristine do absolutely everything to make you feel welcome and at home-- there's nothing impersonal about your stay. If you are looking for some peace and quiet, this is place for you. I had a wonderfully delicious (authentic) Jamaican breakfast every morning-- cooked especially for me! Whether you spend everyday sightseeing or just lounging at the beach, when you stay here, you will get to know what Jamaica is really all about-- good people, good food, and good times! I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Request an oceanview-- nothing like waking up to see the blue sky meet the blue water!

My sister and I enjoyed our stay at the Emerald View. By the second day, it felt as if we were staying with family. Everyone there was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is located on the mountainside which allows for quiet/reflection time, and there is a shuttle that can be scheduled to visit tourist attractions. The natural beauty of the area is a treat in itself.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony to have a wonderful view
