This was the perfect place to celebrate a family birthday. Secrets Wild Orchid is a wonderful all inclusive resort, the rooms (they call them suites) are spacious with comfortable beds and most of them have ocean views. The gardens are very well kept and the resident parrots along with the family of peacocks & peahens kept us entertained.
I have stayed in other all inclusive resorts in the past and quickly got bored with the food, definitely not the case at SWO. We stayed there for 7 nights and we did not have a chance to try all their restaurants, my personal favourites were the Oceana and the Seaside Grill and you cannot go to Jamaica without sampling the local cuisine at the Blue Mountain Restaurant. Food and drinks were available 24/7.
The best food and the best overall experience was the private dinner that was organised in a gazebo with 360 degrees views of the sea.
There were the little things though that we did not like, for example the pressure selling on arrival to upgrade to a different room category. We were tired after a 10 hour flight and the impression that was given is that we booked the "cheap" rooms and had to spend an additional US$920 to get a room with a view and with better facilities. When we got to our rooms, our spirits were lifted again as the rooms that we booked suited us very well. We paid extra for the Wi-Fi connection and as we were early risers we got our favourite spot on the beach most days.
This was our second visit to Jamaica and were keen to rediscover the island so we organised excursions to Dunn's River Falls (a must), catamaran cruise with a chance to snorkel and a trip to the Black River to see the indigenous crocodiles and to the spectacular YS Falls.
Thank you to all the staff at Secret Wild Orchids and to Sean the Duty Manager for making our visit to Jamaica a memorable one.

Dear Valued Guest:

The pleasure was certainly ours to host your family here in celebration of you/your loved ones’ birthday. A complete experience is what we promise to provide and so it is quite pleasing to note that you got just that. Your appreciation of our resort’s beauty and all its defining features are flattering to us and for this we are sincerely grateful.

It would have great for you to try all the restaurants this time but there is always the next time. We are especially happy that your dining experience was an outstanding part of your stay, particularly, the private romantic beach dinner.

All our suites are lovely but once we do have availability, guests are offered the opportunity to upgrade their room category. This not something meant to have guests feel less confident in their originally booked category or to feel pressured by. Please accept our apology for this. I am very happy though that you loved your room and was totally satisfied with it the moment you entered.

Thank you for allowing us to share our resort with you and for sharing your feedback with us. Be sure to come again!

Best Regards,

This is our second stay with Secrets. We stayed at Silversands in Mexico last year and were so impressed we decided to try another Secrets so we booked Wild Orchid for a trip in February.

Check In - No complaints here. The check in process was quick and easy. They did try to get us to upgrade to the preferred club but we weren't interested. After we declined, they let us know that we'd already been upgraded to an oceanfront room anyway. The bellman brought our bags right up to the room and showed us all of the features of the room and layout of the hotel.

Rooms - our first impression of the room was that it had a terrible smell. We slept with the balcony door open the first few nights to air it out. It wasn't bad enough to ask for a room change but very noticeable. I also got the impression that the rooms really needed a deep cleaning. You could tell that they just breeze through when cleaning and that was very disappointing. Also, there just don't seem to be enough towels at this resort. There were times that we couldn't get towels/washcloths even when they came around for the turndown service. We actually started bringing towels back from the pool. The view from the room was amazing and we loved sitting on the balcony every day. There is very little privacy as the bathroom is open to the bedroom and separated only by a curtain. It really didn't bother us but I can see how this would be uncomfortable for some.

Food - really good food for an all-inclusive. The first few days on property there were a lot of large corporate groups so there were long waits at the restaurants and they closed some of the bars/restaurants for private events. I'm a meeting planner so I understand the need for this, but it was inconvenient for the rest of the guests. We loved that all of the restaurants had outdoor seating - it was great to have dinner and enjoy the view of the water and mountains from your table. The French restaurant was by far our favorite. The hibachi table was good - be sure to make your reservations a few days in advance.

Lunch - the wait time at Sea Side Grille was really long everyday and Oceana only served wraps. We ended up eating at the buffet for lunch most of the week and the food was actually very good and they had a great selection every day.

Snacks - the jerk chicken cart was really good! Barefoot Grill had homemade chips, patties, burgers, soft pretzels, etc available all day. Having the coffee bar on property was amazing and we loved having our morning lattes on the beach every morning. Room service was also fast and convenient. They also put out a large buffet every night starting at 10:30 PM for a 'late night snack'.

Drinks - we have no complaints. They have premium liquor here and if you want it you just need to ask for it. There were a few times I had to stop them from putting too much alcohol, so no issues with weak drinks at this resort. The pool and beach service was great. The servers are also making the drinks, so if it takes a few minutes longer than you think it should for your drinks to arrive - go watch them at the bar - they are going as fast as they can and doing an awesome job!

Entertainment - I have to say that Silversands really blew Wild Orchid away from an entertainment standpoint so we were a little disappointed. It was nice having live music pretty much every day at Wild Orchid and the piano bar was fun as well.

Overall there were some areas that could definitely use improvement at this property but nothing that we felt impacted our vacation. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this resort and also return for another trip. The beach was great, the water was clear and I literally cried when we had to leave!!

Room Tip: Request a room on the 4th or 5th floor so you'll be above the palm trees with unobstructed view...

Travelling as a couple, this was our first visit to Jamaica and it won't be forgotten. The Secrets Wild Orchid is a stunning resort, with excellent facilities, well kept grounds and wonderful people.

We were given an ocean view room on the ground floor, which was very spacious and included an outdoor patio area. Unfortunately our shower was found to be leaking onto our bathroom floor, which we spoke to the reception about who happily changed our room. We were given the same room type but this time on the 4th floor. I have to say, the room on the 4th floor was MUCH better, mainly due to the stunning view from the balcony outside, so when travelling you should look to get as high up as possible. I personally wouldn't advise to upgrade to the preferred rooms as they are at least an extra $70 extra per night and the benefits don't outweigh the costs - there is more than enough access to facilities with the standard booking.

The food was brilliant throughout, with a large variety to cater for everyone. The best meal I had was at the oceana - try their steak, it was cooked to perfection. Also thought the italian restaurant was excellent.

There have been a few comments about the jerk chicken truck and rightly so - this comes at 12pm everyday along the beach and you would be hard pressed to taste more succulent chicken - superb.

Drinks were also always flowing - special mention to Harry at the pool bar who made fantastic cocktails, especially the BBC. The staff are very welcoming and always smiling.

There is always so much going on at this hotel - we chose a more relaxing holiday to chill out but if you are into activities then there is always a new program of activities organised by the hotel on each day - e.g tennis lessons, beach volleyball, yoga classes and even Jamaican cooking lessons. This is in addition to the private beach, several swimming pools, spa and fitness centre.

Overall this is an excellent, well kept and spacious hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: standard ocean room 3rd floor or higher

My fiancee and i have just returned after spending 1 week at the Secrets resort wild orchid, Montego Bay, Jamaica. I chose this resort via Virgin Holidays UK.

I considered many places in the Caribbean but this stood out by a mile as being affordable with 5 star quality through out, almost perfect location and of course all the positive reviews.

Upon arrival we was offered an upgrade to "preffered club, full ocean view". our initial booking was for a junior suite and we are so glad that we upgraded our package for a small fee and it is deffinately worth doing the upgrade!

With this package we got 2 champagne breakfasts during our stay, full access to the preffered club and the private beach with top shelf drinks also.

A MUST HAVE - the Jerk chicken! the cart usually comes round about 1pm and we had this everyday, along with the freshly caught coconuts.

With regards to the restaurants, you need to get there early to avoid lengthy ques but the food is of really high quality and ALL the staff are friendly and no request is a problem to them. They all sing and are very happy all of the time which makes you feel relaxed and they are very talkative. in a good way!

We booked an excursion with Nicholas from AM Resorts in the hotel. We did the Black river (crocodille), YS Falls & Appleton Rum factory tour. it is deffinately worth the day out. We was restricted to just this excursion because we severly under budgeted how expensive they are. Plus if you upgrade the room it is pointless doing too much outside the resort.

There is no negativity that i can think of that is worth posting. But a quick heads up if you are a light sleeper then the tree frogs and the noise from the mini bar will no doubt test your patience. Saying that i was on holiday and did not mind it. The wild peacocks woke us up nice and early which means more time to explore the amazing facility and the lovely beaches.

We never felt pressured into "tipping" anybody but we did out of generosity.

To sum up we would deffinately return to this resort and i would highly advise others to do so.

We get married next year and we are strongly considering a return to Mobay.

:)

Room Tip: Upgrade to a full ocean view room. We had room 2419

Location, along with beautifully maintained grounds and ocean view bedroom were all top notch.

Plenty of amenities to choose from. One of my favorite was the daily yoga classes offered on the boardwalk - it felt like you were practicing in the water. The teacher was great - Chris from Chicago. A perfect holiday activity for me: yoga followed by a Mimosa and onto the beach!
The Wild Orchid pool seemed to be the happening one but there were other quiet pools and places on the beach to enjoy and escape to. A good variety of restaurants were on offer.
The staff were very helpful, courteous, sincere and Jamaican. It was nice to be in a big resort but yet still experience a unique cultural experience.

We were a group of family members and I thought we would be surrounded by couples only. But this was not the case. Nice balance of age groups too.
Don't let the name "Secrets" put you off. This resort is very nice and definitely worth a visit. I hope to visit again next year.

Having had many great holidays this is my first time feeling compelled to write a review. We had a five out of ten sibling family reunion! The hotel is excellent, rooms are spacious and clean with a balcony off each. Choice and standard of food and restaurant options is generous and plentiful. Would recommend a chef's table at the Japanese restaurant (Lionel aka Rooster is a colourful chef!). Pool and beach facilities are good with refreshments brought to you while you lounge in the sun. Lots of complimentary sporting and entertainment activities to choose from (we enjoyed the Oscars screening party on the beach). We particularly enjoyed Chris' yoga classes on the beach boardwalk each day. An accident on the first day which had one of us carted off to hospital to have a head stitched, could have been a turning point of our trip but was averted, partly thanks to the kindness and attention paid by the staff - in particular the outstanding Butler Michael and the Duty Manager Sean. Would recommend Secrets Wild Orchid for any family reunion or group holiday and we look forward to going back with the whole family next time!
