“Relaxing, beautiful, amazing entertainment!”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Secrets makes you feel like royalty! Everyone is happy, always something to do. People say they don't like sitting all day at a pool or the beach, but the entertainment staff are always doing something. Pool volleyball, beach volleyball, music trivia, dancing, talent shows. There is snorkling, sail boats, glass bottom tours. Great wait staff at the restaurants, let alone excellent food! We went twice and some staff remembered us. There is really no reason to leave the resort. We love you Secrets Montego Bay!!

we travelled through Kuoni via Virgin Premium economy for 14 nights returning 7th March 2013.The flight was very good and transfer to the hotel ok.On arrival no Kuoni rep was at the hotel and did not arrive for the arrival meeting or departure and did not make contact with us during the 14 days. The hotel provided very good facilities inhouse , poolside , and beachside. The extensive restaurants provided excellent choices and a good standard of food and wines but being a party of 6 and no booking facilities made it very difficult to eat at our first choice restaurant on each evening. The holiday was slightly effected by the hotels booking of a food chain from Canada ( Foodland ) who numbered around 100 a day and were sharing the hotels facilities and exasberated the already full restaurants as the hotel also shares its facllities with st. james hotel a sister hotel to wild orchids.

Room Tip: High floors hve less noise but some rooms have only limited sea views

Just returned from our first trip to Jamaica. We have traveled to lots of different carribean locations. We were looking for a nice facility with a nice view and close to airport. Definitely worth the preferred club side. Nice accomodations and beautiful views. We were on the third floor and would definitely do that floor again. The other side seems to be more of a party atmosphere if that is what you are looking for. We were looking for some peace and quiet and "down" time for a few days and the preferred club met our requirments better. The first floor swim outs dont have much of a view and not alot of privacy but top floors are gorgeous. Restaurants are nice for an all inclusive. Like the oceana grill and bordeaux the best. Definitely worth getting a good bottle of wine as house wines are not really great but food is really nice. Resort is clean and well landscaped and everyone on staff is helpful and polite and seem to be happy to help you in anyway they can. We stayed for six days and found that was just enough. Lots of entertainment if you chose to go so not really necessary to leave resort. We have heard horror stories about Jamaica but our experience here was really good. Definitely would go again and take some friends with us...Probably a great place for a destination wedding...beautiful views.

Room Tip: beds a little soft....rooms in preferred side on upper floors are beautiful views.

Booked thro Juoni with four other friends. Stayed in Junior suites on 4th floor. Good size rooms with good views over the bay. Room was well furnished and cleaned daily, though what you got in the way of bathrobes, slippers shower gels etc proved a bit of a lottery, and nothing was replaced unless you asked for it. What really lets the place down is the dining arrangements. The food itself is very good , well prepared and presented with an excelent choice.
Where things fall down is the restaurants capacity to cope with the numbers. This hotel and Secrets St James are actually one site sharing the same facilities and they just cant cope. Breakfast for all guests is catered for by one buffet feeding two eating halls. its like a truck stop with people queuing out onto the street regularly waiting for tables and a real scrum inside with huge queues at the omlette bars and other areas, not 5 star dining. At night the more popular eating places the French and Italian reataurants are almost impossible to get into after 730 as all its capacity is booked up by then, we got to eat in each one once during our two week stay and were turned away on many occassions.
The entertainment isnt very inspiring considering the size and turnover of the place with one main bar feeding the whole site and two small lobby type bars as a fall back . There is a nightclub/dance bar but it doesnt open until 1030.
Our stay was spoiled by the invasion of "FOODLAND" 300 employees on a team building holiday who were given a free run of the whole site, even being allocated large areas of every restaurant "just in case they wanted to eat there" This was at the expense of holiday makers who had to wait around for the tables they didnt want.
They have obviously built more accomodation than the dining areas can cope with. We payed well in excess of what we would have paid at a Sandals resort and it just doesnt stack up against them.

Room Tip: We heard complaints from peopel in the ground floor rooms, no view and lots of noise.

We were there to usher in New Years 2013 for a full week stay. The distance from the airport is only 13-15 minutes by bus, however there seemed to be initial chaos at the airport sorting out which driver was going to which destination/resort. Saw many people switching buses, drivers arguing, as they tried to figure out the routes, etc.

Once at the resort it was beautiful and we were met by friendly concierge staff who provided nice welcome drink(s) as they covered the resort amenities & answered any questions. Rooms were clean, well appointed, bed was comfy and with the resort being fairly new, all was in good working order. I had read a prior review complaining about the shower activation, but we had no issues. Room service is a great option as we used it late one night (or early one morning...). Stocked mini-fridge was nice although didn't have to take full advantage of it, always came to the room fully satiated.

Wild Orchid & St. James are considered separate resorts but are on the same property and you can move freely about both. They share a spa & fitness facilities which were first-class. People who complain about the 5-minute walk to the fitness facility from Wild Orchid need to learn what the word "irony" means. Was no big deal.

Poolside swim-up bar is a great place to meet people & chat, service there was great. Bartenders quickly learn your drink preferences & will recall same for days. We ate daily at the poolside restaurant which mainly consisted of wraps & fries, salads, etc. and dabbled with the jerk chicken from the cart on the beach which was good too -- the spicy chicken was hot. We enjoyed the lobby bar the most and either of the same two bartenders were usually working and were quick with a drink as we arrived. Premium alcohol was awesome, puts to shame other resorts I've been to. Speaking of which, I put away a lot of Hennessy & Jamieson's Irish Whiskey just to get my moneys worth!

There were lots of beach-side chairs to go around, but to get your optimal choice you had to get out there early. Never took in the nightly entertainment but heard from others that it was OK. The food at every restaurant was very enjoyable. If you are a big eater and at Portofino or Bordeaux restaurants, simply order double orders of the appetizers for yourself as the portions are tiny. They also offer upgraded wines at additional costs to you at most restaurants, however this is unnecessary as the house wines were good. The Japanese restaurant was both entertaining, and well worth the time to make a reservation & go sit around the grill as they prepare your food. We went twice & truly loved it.

We went to the Unlimited Vacation Club sales pitch and received VIP line passes for the airport for our departure. THAT alone (VIP passes) was worth the morning spent at the sales pitch, as the regular lines at the airport were long. We subsequently bought into the club as members because we just absolutely loved this resort, and we are going to Cancun Secrets Sands this weekend!

Room Tip: Had a 5th floor pool view room which also afforded a partial view of the ocean, Great vantage point...

This was our 4th stay at Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. It was my fiancé’s birthday, so we didn’t want to take any chances with this trip. And once again, all of our expectations were exceeded, and in a big way.

The accommodations were beyond 5-star (we stayed at the Wild Orchid Preferred)…incredible view of both the ocean and the pool, well-stocked frig, white cloud comfortable bed that made it too easy to sleep, beautiful large marble shower, large jetted tub, top notch housekeeping services with a smile and great attitude. Any request was answered with “No problem.”

The food and drinks were exceptional. And we are very high maintenance since my fiancé is both gluten and dairy free. At each of the several themed restaurants, the chefs and cooks were happy to assist and make certain that all of our dining experiences were perfect. We enjoyed champagne by the beach and with dinners. Don’t leave without trying Chef Derek’s delicious and perfectly trimmed lamb chops at the French restaurant! We also had fresh seafood everyday….from lobster to snapper and mahi-mahi. And Chef Kami-dale managed to prepare the most fabulous gluten and dairy free chocolate birthday dessert we ever tasted. During the day, they come to the pool and beach areas with the best jerk chicken we ever had. And with a fresh cut-open coconut water…..it truly is paradise.

The staff was very professional and well-trained. There were so many individuals that helped make this stay our best ever. Next time, we will definitely stay longer because we made so many good friends that truly made us feel like we were “at home” when we were there. From the bellman that greeted us when we arrived, to the receptionist that checked us in, to the housekeeper that took care of our room, to the waiters that provided prompt service with a smile and amazing attitude that we love getting used to at Secrets in Jamaica….we just loved how they all made us feel so spoiled with attention. In addition, we had butler service, which added a very special touch to our stay. I would highly recommend looking into this if you stay at the Preferred section. This was such a memorable stay for us…..we are already home-sick and can’t wait to go back.

My wife and I booked a short trip over a long wekend in the sun. We stayed at the resort for Friday through Monday. We didn't explore the island as we just wanted to relax and be pampered.

The Good:

This resort is beautiful and clean.
The preferred rooms are large with great showers, large jacuzzi tubs and wonderful views.
The quantity and availability of drinks and food.
The people, staff and guests, are incredibly friendly.
The service was excellent.

The Not So Good: (Listed, then explained below)

This resort is QUIET.
The quality of the food wasn't great.

Of the three pools and multiple bars, only one was playing music and it was very quiet. We joked it was Reggae Muzac. I think we actually heard a reggae cover of Hall & Oats. This could have been great, if they would turn it up. You could barely hear it around the pool or at the bar.

Don't get me wrong. We are not party animals. We like to read and enjoy some quiet time on the beach. But on vacation we also like the ability to kick it up a notch in the afternoon or early evening. you want to relax at the swim up bar, listen to good music, get to know the other guests and drink the wonderful fruity drinks we all expect. This is not that type of place.

As for the food, it was by no means bad. Admittedly we are food snobs, but the each of evening restaurants left something to be desired. They clearly do not use fresh ingredients for most of the evening cooking. The breakfast and lunch buffets, along with the Jerk Chicken cart were better, but still nothing to write home about.

I don't think we will go back, but only because we want to experience other islands and resorts.

Room Tip: Go for the preferred rooms. We enjoyed the views and large jacuzzi tubs. All had good views. The hig...
