We thought it was a really great time. Leon at the pool bar in Wild Orchid side was a man of few words but made the best drinks in the whole place. Check in was okay... was surprised by how small the lobby was but it didn't really seem overcrowded. They try to get you to upgrade, but not pushy about it. We didn't as we just couldn't justify the additional cost for the minimal extra amenities. Glad we didn't as there was never an issue with getting lounge chairs at the pool if down by 10 AM and there were always, at all times of the day, plenty of open lounge chairs on the beaches (I use beach loosely). Our room was really nice. Took a few minutes to figure out the tub drain, but got it working. Beds were really comfortable. The non-preferred room service was pretty limited and not great, but I only had it a couple times anyway and both times anything would have tasted good... If you are with a group (more than 4), getting to dinner no later than 7:00 PM is an absolute must if you do not want to wait 2 hours... seriously! They have 1 table at each restaurant that seats more than 4 and they do not push tables together. (which brings up another point... did not matter to us as we're married... but did notice this would definitely not be a resort to come to if you're single looking to mingle... I would say at least 85-90% are honeymooners and couples celebrating anniversaries). Bourdeaux and Portofino are the best. If you go to the Asian and want to do Hibachi, make reservations ASAP when you arrive. We wanted to make reservations the evening we arrived and next available time was 4 days later. Reservations are required for the Hibachi part of the restaurant but not for the general dining section, or any other restaurant. Also, don't know his name as he was the chef at the grill next to us, but when making a reservation, request the guy that sings... he is hilarious! The other food in general was great, for all inclusive... you really need to keep in mind this is not the Ritz and you're not paying $100 per meal. The food here was better than a Dreams we stayed at in Dominican (cheaper to stay at) but not as good as a Riu in Cabo, which cost more. So, with all things, you get what you pay for as far as food goes.
As far as service speed goes, this is JAMAICA... it is slow here... always has been, always will. If you expect speedy, fast-serviced, service, probably do not need to visit a resort anywhere in Jamaica.
All-in-all, we would come back but we usually like to try new destinations before going back to a previous one. If they have a Secrets in Negril, we'd do that.
The piano bar (not the lobby piano bar) is fun; especially when the piano man starts singing for the sing-along. Picture karaoke, but with the whole place going at the same time... hilariously awesome!
For something really refreshing in the AM after night time drinks is snorkeling. Have to be down there at 8:45 but it really is refreshing. You don't see a lot of fish, but the coral is really interesting anyway.
Lastly, and I know this is a bit repetative on other reviews, but the jerk chicken cart (not in the buffet area, but the cart that goes along the sidewalk between the pools and beach) is an absolute must... every day available! Seriously, it is ridiculously good! (make sure you get extra magic sauce)
