It was always our intention to go to Scotchies as we'd read the reviews. We waited for a cloudier day and walked right across and up the street for lunch the day before we left Holiday Sunspree. Of course the taxi drivers will tell you it's WAY up the street but it's absolutely walkable. My three year old and 72 yr old mother made it.
Though it looks a tad frightening(at least to some in my party) from the outside, inside it is welcoming and fun. Totally Jamaican all da way. Bartender greeted us immediately and we seated ourselves at a great little tiki hut table with padded kegs as seats. WHAT FUN!
We helped ourselves to a little of everything - jerk fish, pork and chicken along with sweet potatoes, rice and peas and festival - which my children have a newfound affinity for. Of course there were Red Stripes flowing and my husband and stepfather even braved the overproof white rum. This is NOT recommended.
Overall, don't miss it. It didn't take us away from the beach too long and is a meal not to be reckoned with. Reasonably priced too! Good for all ages, attitudes and palates!
