As newlyweds, we didn't have a ton of money for a honeymoon but knew we wanted to go to Jamaica. The flight was amazing and the weather in late December was perfect in Jamaica. The carlyl is the smallest of the other two resorts but its okay because you can just catch a free bus to The other ones where they have a nude beach, restaurants and loads of activities!!!!! You sleep lovely at the carlyl, the service is amazing and they really make you feel at home. Nibbles grill is very personal and they'll make whatever you want dress. The whole stuff is great like that. The beach across the street sucks but you can spend the whole day at one of the other resorts absolutely free. My husband and I loved everything about our five day stay and have NOTHING to complain about. We're coming back this summer!!!

First off.... the staff here is fantastic. They do a fabulous job considering what they have to work with. However this place is severly understaffed.
On several occassions having dinner at the Bayside restaurant was a miserable experience. Over 90 minutes wait just for the appetizer to appear. Patrons were continually walking out without getting their meal. Again the problem is not enough staff!
Getting reservations at the other Sandals in the area was a complete waste of time. Could never get any as apparently they were booked up. However if you went there the establishment was half full.
What was really frustrating that you could not even get a spot at the Carlyle. And then you would realize it was full with folks from the other Sandals. What a joke!
Having a shower was again a negative experience. Water fluctuated between ice cold and scalding hot. also, you could go to the room at 5 in the afternoon and it still wasn't made up.
The most frustrating thing was the so called entertainment committee. At 7:30 AM a track of about a dozen songs would begin and the same tracks played over and over again until 4 PM. Jerome the so called entertainment guy should be fired. The guy is useless.
In closing, all of the staff (with the exception of Jerome) are first class. They bend over backwards to make your stay comfortable even though they are working under difficult conditions.

This was our first trip together since being married almost 10 years so we had pretty high expectations. We got off to a rocky start as the room we had booked is not the one we received when we arrived. Shower did not work, sink taps were broken, located on the main floor and some friendly critters were in the bathroom greeting my wife. We asked for a room transfer so we had balcony and Doreen & Tessa and Lisa were more than accomodating. We ended up above the gift shop facing the VERY PUBLIC beach across the road. Every morning we were greeted by the locals at 600am at our balcony wanting to sell us "smoke". The noise was constant so I was thankful my wife brought ear plugs. We travelled the week around Bob Marley's birthday so there was non-stop parties at the beach all week and all night. The noise was unbearable at times. Parties, loud music and such carried on nightly until roughly 100-200am and the locals were in the water by 600am. We did hear from guests who were staying at the back half of the hotel they never heard any noise at all as they were facing away from the street. The rooms are not as nice in the picutres and it is the 3rd floor that has the renovated rooms. All that was new in our room was the bed. The food was terrific, the staff (Kareesha, Tracey-Ann, Soshanna, Nola, Jeromoe, Desiree) always greeted with a smile. However that doesn't make up for the lack of sleep we ended up with. We travelled on the shuttle daily to the other destinations. Mo-Bay was terrific, Sandals Royal was for the stuffy vacationer - couldnt pay us to go back there. Our shuttle drivers were hilarious and made the transfer well worth the ride. We learned more about Jamaica from George and Otto than we would ever learn from a book or paid tour. The entertainment was questionable at times. Everything basically stopped at 1030pm, which was o.k. because that is when the all the street noise (parties started). All in all we had a good trip however would no go back to the Caryle. Butch should seriously look at investing some money into updating the remainder of the resort or lowering the price of what it costs to stay there as my wife priced it out and for only a few hundred dollars more we could have done a last minute to the larger destinations. Also wanted to let everyone we had issues with all the dinner reservations at the larger properties. Ends up that the larger destinations will only hold so many spots for the Caryle so if you don't book as soon as you arrive you won't get in to any of the other restaurants. Was disappointing as whe had reservations at Toyoko Joes at Mo-Bay and when we arrived they never had us listed. They refused to seat us so we ate at the other restaurant near by. My wife watched as Toyoko Joes never filled all their seats so in all reality we could have ate there. All in all We would love to go back to Jamaica however we wont be staying at the Caryle. Overall the trip was ok however midly disappointing as this was our first trip together away without the kids. Main purpose of our review was to just caution everyone on the location of the resort, right down the road from the "hip strip", the noise levels on the street and the VERY PUBLIC beach literally a stone throws away from your balcony.

Room Tip: only stay on the back side of the resort facing away from the main strip. and if you are going to sp...

This will be the hardest review I have ever written. Some background first. We normally stay in high end resorts or hotels and we are very active when on trips visiting churches, markets and historical places. This trip was with our son and pregnant daughter in law before their first child. She could not do a lot so we were limited in our adventures. We also booked at the last minute due to some obstacles so we could not stay in the other two Sandals's Montego Bay locations.

Accommodations - the rooms are adequate if a little dated. We did have some issues with the water as showers were lukewarm and would have periods of scalding hot or freezing cold water. We also lost water one evening. The hotel is on a piece of beach about the size of our living room. It is mostly used as a bathing area for locals. The view is ok but nothing to dream about. The hotel is on a dead end street with little to do in the area.

Food - this was a slight issue as we could not reservations at the better, smaller eateries at any of the 3 hotels. My wife had asked about reservations before we left the US. She was twice told we could make them when we arrived. When we arrived, we were told it was too late in the day to make reservations that day - it was 2:30 in the afternoon. E next day when she tried, she was told that none of the places were available for our 5 day stay. So we basically ate. Buffet food with two excepts. The food overall was good with a lot of choices. It was not what I am used to though. We did get to eat one meal at the Oleander at the Montego Bay location. It was great. Our waiter Robert was superb. We also got to try the French restaurant at the Carlyle and it was also very good. I think if we could have made reservations the other places would also have been quite good based on our conversations with people lucky enough to make reservations.

Staff - The staff at the Carlyle is beyond excellent. I think they try harder because of the limitations of the place. The staff at the other locations were also quite good.

Other comments - we did a glass bottom cruise for 20 minutes that was quite nice. We hit the beach at the other two locations and they were pretty good, if small. The drinks were good at all locations. The entertainment we saw was a pretty good except for a fashion show that seemed out of place. The shuttles were timely and got us around quite easily. Tis location can be a bit noisy due to its location but its fun to interact with the locals if only to tell them you don't need anymore reefer.

In conclusion, this is not a place for everyone but you get what you pay for and them some. Personally, I would rather stay in other locations but this staff sure makes the shortcomings of the place insignificant. Just make sure you can roll with the hotel and do not expect to be in a resort.

We just spent 8 amazing days in Jamaica. It was our first trip to Jamaica & at a Sandals resort. From the moment we landed we were treated like Rock Stars! The staff at the Carlyle was very attentive to our every need. We were greeted with open arms by both Lance Parrish (General Manager) and Doreen – and introduced to our main butler Jevan. After a long morning/afternoon of traveling they ushered us right in to the dining area and brought us a yummy lunch of jerk chicken & rice and a round of Jamaican Smiles (on their faces & the drink).

We were very fortunate to have three very professional, personal & attentive butlers. Danae and Danesha made certain that we had VIP seating at our dinner / reggae parties at the Carlyle and a full cooler of Lights at all times – even when headed to one of the other two resorts. We especially enjoyed our personal time spent with Danae after her scheduled work hours talking about our families. (Dave felt horrible asking for another cooler of Lights because he didn’t realize she was “off duty” but of course – Danae said “my pleasure!”)

Jevan was our main butler. Jevan is amazing! He went above and beyond his duties to arrange reservations at the other resorts, tracking down actual “Captain Morgan”, decorating our room for the special birthday we were celebrating, and assuring everything about our trip was absolutely PERFECT!

Special thank you to Tee Jay – our friendly bartender. Tee Jay did an awesome job of taking care of our refreshment needs & desires and was such always pleasure!!

For your money – The Carlyle is the best value. What they lack in water activities they make up in service and kindness. You won’t get better service than the staff of the Carlyle. The entire staff was amazing! Each and every staff member was like family by the time we (sadly) departed. We loved every minute!!!
We look forward to see you again in January 2014.

Another wonderful week at the Carlyle. The weather was amazing, the staff phenomenal, and I actually decompressed from life's daily stress. The Carlyle is my favorite and I love the staff. You have to experience it yourself! Thanks for the great week!!

Each year we try to go home to the Carlyle for our holidays. We meet up with Sandals friends from around the world and it is the highlight of our year. The staff is kind, loving and attentive; the rooms are clean and comfortable; and everything we need is in close proximity. It's a short walk to my favourite excursion (shopping) where even the store owners welcome us home. Unlike some of the reviews read from disgruntled guests, we love the public beach and the busy street. Our hearts are in Jamaica at the Carlyle and we look forward to our next visit.
