“could have been better”
Reviewed April 22, 2008

Don't believe everything u see. The borosure made this place look marvelous. It was not close to what the book showed. I had roaches in my room and was given the incorrect room and they did not car to fix the problem. Certain parts were nice. I think I liked the other locations way better. I t was a bus trolly to take u to the different hotels. I was ready to book a room at several others. The music was corny. They played calypso all day and night. Not any real reggae!! But this is were reggae comes from. very strange to me. The pool was cool and the staff was wonderful. This was several yrs ago so i hope the got it together by now. !!!!!!!!!!

TIPS = To Insure Proper Service

The reason tips are such an important part of the service industry is simple: they help to guarantee good service. At Sandals, tips are included, which sounds great at first, until you realize that without tips a lot of the workers could care less about serving you. What do they care if you wait 15 minutes at a bar for a drink, or if your food order is wrong, or if they are out of glasses or spoons? They don't. And that's the biggest (although far from only) problem with Sandals.

I don't want to blame the poor service we experienced only on the tipping policy, maybe the workers wouldn’t care even if they got tips...but the people on here who are posting how great the service is are either a) lying, b) supermodels, or, most likely, c) have never experienced what good service actually entails.

From shuttle bus drivers who stop for gas with a full busload of passengers (never take the 4:15 pm shuttle, trust me) to bartenders who could care less that you wanted a "light" beer, to concierges who can't be bothered by actually phoning in your dinner reservation, to housekeepers who think 'why sweep the bathroom floor when it'll just get dirty again' -- Sandals is a breeding ground for poor service.

Like I said, there are other things that make this a 2 star choice (the rooms are loud and hot, the bathrooms are dirty, the food is borderline horrendous, and the activities a joke) but the service -- or lack thereof -- trumps everything else. How bad was the housekeeping? We actually found weed in our desk drawer. Yes, our desk drawer…not exactly a world-class hiding spot. I can't imagine what was in our room that we couldn't see.

The beach at Sandals Inn is pretty much off-limits (unless you enjoy being accosted by locals) but the beaches at MoBay and Royal are both very nice. Just don't get too hot or thirsty while you lay out because the only people who will be coming by are the security guards to keep the local peddlers away. Drink waiters/waitresses are nowhere to be found.

Bottom line: if a nice beach trumps eating, drinking and cleanliness, then Sandals is the place for you.

We returned to the Inn on 3/22 for a week long vacation. This was our 3rd visit to the Inn and our 4th visit to a Sandals Resort. We had the best time ever -- the weather was fantastic and the staff at the Inn are the best!!! We booked for the same week, same place next year. Looks like this will be our yearly escape! Thank you to Lisa, Mark, Cassandra, Nola (to name a few) who really made our trip the best;) You guys are the greatest!! We didn't want to leave. We love Jamaica, specifically, Mo Bay, the people, the culture, etc.... We saw a huge change in Mo Bay (for the better). See you next year!

We spent the last two weeks of March at the Sandals Inn. After reading many reviews, we decided on this location because it was a small, less expensive Sandals with access to the two other larger sandals in the Montego Bay area by way of a shuttle bus. It takes only 15 minutes to go to the other Sandals Resorts where you can spend the day there and use their full facilities if you are so inclined and then take the shuttle bus “home” when your day ends. When you leave the Inn to go to either another Sandals Resort or just for a walk up the street, security at the front desk asks where you are going and room your room number. When you return they ask you for your room number. It’s their friendly way of making sure you make it home safe and sound. Would you get that kind of attention at one of the other bigger Sandals resorts? No, you would not.

At the Sandals Inn however, there is no private beach. It’s located directly across from the front door of the Inn at the end of street known as the ”Hip Strip” and the roadway can be busy and noisy. They do have a lovely pool and a whirlpool located at one end of it.

The staff is fantastic. They go beyond the everyday routine to make you feel welcome and part of their “family”. You will get to know them on a personal and friendly basis from the minute you walk through their front door. The food was fantastic and the Sunset Bar was one of the friendliest bars you could ask for. It reminded us of the Cheers Bar – where everyone knows your name. The manager, Cheryl Brown, and her assistant managers Lisa and Mark are professionals who make your vacation one you will not forget. We could not forget to mention the numerous other members of the “family”: Paul, who commands his post at the front door, Latoya ,Tacia and Sasha-Mae, who assist in making your reservations for wherever you want to go, Elvis and Antonette in the dining room, Jonathan, Dacre, David and Omar from the Sunset Bar, Lola from the gift shop, chef Washburn Lawrence, who creates all the fantastic food there, Kayon, who makes all you reservations to come back and visit, Gieon, who gets everyone going at the pool for games, Jack in the “Nibbles” grill, Dalton who provides lots of fun on all the tours, and all the other staff (who are too numerous to mention) who are behind the scenes. We could not say enough about all the staff at the Inn.

Our room was excellent. It was spacious and very clean. There is a coffeemaker in the room, safe, hairdryer, an ironing board and iron.

There is live excellent entertainment every night – they really keep you hopping!

What they say about the Sandals Inn is very true. It may be the smallest, but it has the biggest heart. They do everything in a very big way – from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave.

Well we got exactly what we expected and much, much more……..we had a great vacation!!! My wife even cried when we left – she felt that she was leaving her “family” behind.

If you want a vacation that will leave you with lasting memories for a lifetime, Sandals Inn is the resort you want to be at. We highly recommend it.

You can be assured that we will return to Sandals Inn next year – in fact, we have already booked our reservations. We are looking forward to seeing our new friends and “family” in the New Year.

It's been one week back at the grind. Our tans are already fading away, but the memories of our first visit to Jamaica will surely last a lifetime! A nor'easter delayed our flight out of Halifax several hours, causing us to arrive at 3 a.m. Five minutes later we were warmly welcomed at the door of Sandals Inn by three cheerful guys who had been patiently waiting just for us. We were sorry for putting them out but they didn't seem to mind at all - even offered to order up some room service! This turned out to be typical, from Paul at the front door to Kevin in the garden, of the friendly and personal service we experienced throughout our stay.

We did take advantage of the shuttles to visit the other resorts. They both had their good points (private beaches, water sports, more restaurants) but they were very busy, noisy and more impersonal. There is a lovely bar at The Royal but ironically no one seemed to hang out there - a far cry from the friendly group gathering around the Inn's Sunset Bar at any given time. Hi to Chris and Mike, Diane and Terry - you 'made' our holiday - keep the emails coming!

Don't be afraid of the beach across the street. It's small but the water is warmer and clearer than the resort beaches. If you don't want to wander down the strip or take an escorted shopping tour, the Inn invites a few local vendors to set up in the amphitheater every Friday. Unless you're really happy just relaxing and reading by the pool (and that's okay - different strokes) take a tour or two. As we had only one week we avoided the day long trips. The John Hall's Adventure Tour with fabulous tour guide June was excellent - teachers and parents will love visiting with the adorable children at Mount Olive Basic School. Our Double A Ranch horseback ride (calm horses, comfy Western saddles) was a peaceful and informative way to visit Jamaica's countryside.

The food was delicious everywhere, but the meals we enjoyed most were the ones we had right at The Inn. Our dinner at The Carlyle was spectacular. As for entertainment, if you want a super-flashy Vegas-style show, go there. If you want groovy reggae and vintage Bob Marley in a laid-back atmosphere you needn't go any further than the Sunset Bar. Doing the Electric Slide with 2 left feet - you had to be there! Sometimes the best entertainment is the fun you make yourself.

While at the airport waiting for our flight home, we chatted with other Nova Scotians who had stayed at Negril, Dunn's River and the other Sandals in Montego Bay. They were downright envious of the 'home away from home' experience we had enjoyed at The Sandals Inn. Smaller is definitely better! Thanks again for a wonderful holiday! We'll be back - with friends!
