It was our honeymoon so we tried to make the best of things. We were there the week of the 23rd and it rained almost everyday--all day.

Arrival/Departure was great overall. Sandals really does it right at the airport with there beautiful arrival lounge, however they should provide there own transport from the airport, as the van driver/baggage handler reminded us several times that they do not work for Sandals and expected a tip. (After seeing how poor Jamaica and how little people make, we ended up tipping some of the Sandals employees anyway, they work so hard and ALL DAY).
Check-in was a breeze. Although when you are checking out--you are definetly checking out you get a slightly different attitude.

The beach was smaller than expected and due to all the rain the water remained fairly cloudy our entire stay. We didn't mind the size, but were disappointed in the water clarity (not the resorts fault).

The pools/jacuzzis were fine, except they were a bit small and a couple were closed for renovation.

The Food-- We have stayed at an all inclusive before and were concerned that we wouldn't like the food. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and excellent taste of the food. The Thai restaurant was the only dissapointment. The others were excellent, especially the regency and the courtyard. Breakfast Buffet was great, lunch could have been a little better, but was not too bad.

The beach bar was great, but they could stand to have a few more choices at the grill.

The private island was nice, but the pool and bar need some updating.

The room-- Our first room seemed nice, with the exception of the bathroom windows, which had wooden slats that remained open and allowed mosquitos in and there were sand fleas in the bathroom area. Our original room was a Grand Lux Ocean View. Our View was outstanding and the balcony was huge. We asked to move only because our room was right in the middle of the action, and it was very loud. Given we were on our honeymoon we wanted peace and quiet. We moved to the Kensington building and to our surprise found that there were rooms that kept the bugs and mosquitos out and had water pressure and a jacuzzi tub. The room was nicer, but did not have the sitting area of our other room. Also, it was ground level which made for not as good a view, but easier access to the second pool and jacuzzi. What a mistake it was to move in the end. Our room flooded and there was mold on our ceiling that I noticed after we had moved in. The jacuzzi tub and water pressure were the only thing that made up for the mold and flood. The staff could not accomodate us once we flooded, and it took two hours and a call to our travel agent to get someone to attend to the water in our room.

Overall, we made the best of it because it was our honeymoon, and I didn't want my new bride upset. The staff were incredibly nice and made Jamaican people seem wonderful. However, the treatment during "the flood" made me wonder if I would ever return to a Sandals.

More on "the flood" --The whole property flooded for a while. Ankle deep water on all the walkways and all the grass. The staff said this is only the second time this has happened. We went shopping and some of the locals explained that this has been happening for years and that Sandals refuses to do anything about it. Finally, they offered to send us to Ocho Rios-1h30min away at about 5 pm. The flood started before 10 am. Oh, and the roads were washed out to Ocho Rios, we would have been stuck in a bus for who knows how long.

All reviews depend on one's perspective. We are from Washington, DC, travel on business several times a year, are in our late 30's and cook gourmet food for fun.

Sandals RC was not quite what we expected but we had a very enjoyable relaxing time. Don't expect the stars to be mean the Ritz or its equivalent. The hotel is clean and well-kept and has friendly staff but is not a US luxury hotel.

The food was fine; water drinkable but again, not gourmet if you are used to business expense account great restaurants. In fact, the food was more gourmet on a Carnival cruise. It was good, edible and plentiful, just not exceptional. The house wine was dreadful, but they make great rum drinks. The jerk chicken at the beach grill was great.

The beach was fine, but there are no waves (There are waves at MoBay, but is on the runway and a much livelier resort so pick wisely). Go out to the island and swim off the water access area there -- must nicer and you get away from the vendors in the water.

The vendors were awful. They lurk in the water just outside beyond the swimming area and constantly call to you and try to sell jewelry (but are really selling pot). It hard to ignore them, but they do not hang around the island.

We did the non-Sandals cataman/snorkeling event and were disappointed. Sandals snorkeling took us to better locations. The Dreamer catamaran excursion was not much at all and not worth $120 for two.

Overall we had a very relaxing holiday. The resort was not crowded due to it being the rainy season (early Oct.) and having some construction going on (be sure to check). We opted for the least expensive room and were pleasantly surprised. We had a huge deck that looked out over some landscaping. At night we heard the live music quite well in our room, but I would guess everyone at the resort heard it. We were at the back of the property but still had a mere 2 min. walk to the beach. There were mosquitos so bring bug spray and sunscreen.

This is a nice place, but I hear Negril and Ochos Rios are nicer -- I'd suggest not fearing the 1 hr drive and picking one of those locations.

My husband and I have been travelling for at least ten years in the sunny south. This was our first trip to Jamaica; we wanted a change from our usual destinations of Playa del Carmen or Cozumel in Mexico. We had heard all about the legendary Sandals reputation and got a deal for a summer vacation. Well, not much of a deal as it turned out.

The beach was quite small but reasonable. The biggest problem was being hounded, called out to and generally harassed by the local peddlars who cruise the beach on surfboards. One had the nerve to follow us back to our room at 11:30 at night!! I didn't appreciate the constant refrain of "Princess, come buy something from me today." It gets rather annoying to have to avoid people when a resort is this small. As well, the rather pungent odour of something other than cigarettes is not something that people should be trying to sell me at any resort.

The room was an upgrade, and we were fortunate to get it. It was quite nice, and we were thankful we didn't get one that smelled like mildew like the room another couple we met stayed in. I don't know how they could stand it; it was truly headache inducing.

As for the food, it was hit and miss. Breakfast was reasonable for choice but the food was of poor quality and the fruit seemed quite low quality as well. Lunches at the pool deck were frozen burgers and fries (not what I expect for this price). Dinners were quite nicely prepared and presentation was lovely. Upper end resorts in Mexico provided much more choice, better variety from day to day and the fruit was beyond compare. As well, they were a MUCH better value.

The Sandals resort itself was small, the staff were reasonable but not terribly helpful and sometimes downright rude. Again, Mexico wins hands down.

As for scuba diving, be prepared for a hassle. The help was not helpful, the diving was poor and, while it was free, it was not worth doing. The dives were not posted; the destination was decided on the boat in the morning therefore if it was a location you weren't interested in, you wouldn't know before getting up early, getting all your gear and suiting up. We will not be going back at any price.

what a wonderful vacation!!! we stayed at sandals royal carribean for 6 nights for our honeymoon and had the time of our lives!! from the moment we stepped off of our plane in montego bay, we were greeted with kindness and enthusiam. i have traveled a lot (america, europe, africa) and i can honestly say that the people of jamacia are the most friendly and accommodating people i have ever encountered. i give each and every staff member an a+++.
as far as the resort, let's just say gorgeous. not only were the accommodations wonderful ( we stayed in a concierge oceanview room) but the grounds were simply magnificent. very well kept and CLEAN!!
as far as the food, divine! the resort offers a breakfast buffet every morning as well as room service; huge selection and great tasting food. for lunch, we mostly ate at the beach grill (hamburgers etc) but the resort offers a wonderful lunch buffet as well. dinner every night was something different; from an international buffet, to a beach party, to the private and very intimate thai restaurant on sandals's private island. the resort offers 3 restaruants in addition to the buffets for dinner which offer a wide variety of cuisine with great taste!!
if you are worried about having too much or too little to do. worry no more. there are games/activities scheduled throughout the day and night by the awsome playmakers. however, if you want to just relax on the beach or by the pool with a nice cool drink, that is fine too. you can do as little or as much as you would like.
this review could go on forever, as my husband and i had an absolutely marvelous time. but, i just wanted to focus on some highlights and topics that we were wondering about when we planned our trip.
we are already planning on returing to sandals royal carribean in the very near future to see all of the friends we made during our stay.

We just got back last nite from S.R.C. We had been led to believe that Sandals resorts were the best but we found that the rooms at the S. R. C. were way below our standard. We have stayed in many all inclusive resorts but this was the worst room we have ever stayed in bar none( motel 6 etc...were better than this) We had paid for a level 3 room out of 5 levels. Mold was growing on the wall, in rm. 35, the walls were falling apart, the fixtures were old and in poor repair, etc... We asked to move and would have gladly payed to get an up grade to the newer section but that was not an option. We did move to rm 16 and it was only a little better. The 2 rugs were dirty, old and gross, the window shade was falling apart and stained all over. The air unit was a window style mounted through the wall on the porch and all the heat from it made it impossable to enjoy that area. The whole resort had places that were rotting and in poor repair. The nightly entertainment was very loud and we could not hear the T.V. in our room for it. The island was clean but very few chairs and the pool was an above ground but it was ok. The restraunt was great at night and the food was good.

Now for the good news. The people who work there were GREAT!!!!! The food and drinks were very good and the activities were fun. The beach was small but clean. The people worked very hard to keep the place up and make sure everyone had a good time. We did see remodeling going on and hopefully they will gut the older section and fix it up. If your going, pay for the room upgrade to the best if you care about the room condition. We loved the island and went on one tour to Rose Hall and it was very good. We did talk to people on the plane home and they found Sandals Mobay to be the same. Good luck
