Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort and Private Island
Ranked #7 of 64 Hotels in Montego Bay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We were new to the all-inclusive holiday and wanted to go to the best! Sandals has an excellent reputation in providing fantastic service, food and location and we were not disappointed. We definitely wanted to go to Montego Bay and chose Royal Caribbean, quite simply, because of the private island. We set out with high expectations but Sandals Royal Caribbean resort far exceeded those expectations. Entertainment staff work really hard to provide a lot of fun all day, every day, including partying (if you choose) until the early hours. The staff at the Mariner grill were wonderful, friendly and attentive. Nicola (on the beach) and Iesha were brilliant and Odane is the shining star, he was always one step ahead in ensuring excellent service to all. The entire staff are welcoming and so friendly, it just feels like a really happy place to be. Our room was good, plenty of wardrobe space with enough hangers! A huge, comfortable bed. The fridge was always well stocked with a good variety of soft drinks and we had a balcony over-looking the beautiful, well tended gardens. Everything at the resort is clean and tidy, well maintained and neat. The beach with the clear warm sea is a great place to watch the world go by. We didn't think the beach was too small, we stayed at the Royal Caribbean 19th to 30th June 2013 and never had a problem finding two spare sun-loungers, in the shade, nor did we see the beach full to capacity. Plenty of room although I appreciate it may get busier during July/August. There is some noise from planes due to the resort's proximity to the airport but honestly, it is not like your average London airport. Planes are intermittent during the day and the noise is not ground-shaking or deafening plus it lasts only for a few seconds. Wherever you eat at the resort, the food is amazing and there is so much choice. Buffet breakfast in the Regency or table service at the Cricketers, buffet lunch in the Regency, pizza or jerk chicken (plus lots more) at the beach. Dinner is a treat which ever restaurant you opt for and the table service is excellent. Our favourite restaurant (if we really, really have to pick just one) was Jardinier, melt in the mouth beef or lamb, tasty chicken, in fact the whole menu was great. The private island takes a couple of minutes to reach by boat and is so peaceful. All in all, Sandals Royal Caribbean resort is the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy yourselves - we did! You can do as much or as little as you like, eat when you're ready, drink whatever, whenever (we never witnessed any alcohol induced rowdiness or overindulgence during our stay). I could continue to wax lyrical about the resort but I will finish by thanking all the staff for a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you on our return trip next year. Can't wait!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Arundel accommodation block, overlooking the gardens and away from the Almond terra...

We just got back from our trip to Sandals Royal Caribbean and absolutely loved every minute of it. The trip was our second to a Sandals resort after a honeymoon trip to the Sandals Grande St. Lucian two years ago. Sandals Royal Caribbean has something for everyone. If you want to have a quiet place on the beach to relax, there are places to get away from all the commotion including a peaceful private island where you can also pick up some excellent jerk chicken, enjoy a pool with some shade, visit a nude beach, or whistle "Pop Goes the Weasel" to Diana the parrot. Be patient and she'll pop for you. Also, there are smaller beaches near the Balmoral building and to the east of the resort that are quieter than the main beach where the playmakers will get you involved. Alternatively, if you want to party all day long, there are places to do that too like the main pool and main beach!

Make sure you head over to the watersports stand and get a hobie cat ride from Charlton. When you do, ask him for the "bumpy ride" and prepare to be amazed. Overall, the watersport staff is amazing but Charlton went above and beyond to help make our stay at this resort the best vacation we've ever had.

The entertainment staff members were excellent and never stopped. These staff members worked 16 hour days and were there the next day to greet you in the morning. They really care about all the visitors at the resort too. For example, by the second day of our trip, they had already memorized my name. All of the staff members are very outgoing and will keep you having fun. To Richie Rich, Hollywood, Chiko, Solange, one other who I can't remember the name (sorry), "Big Applause" from "The Reggae King". <--- The nickname they game me.

The rest of the resort staff is excellent as well. All of the staff were kind and friendly at all times. They were always willing to help you. Whether that meant getting you a drink or just asking how you were doing, this resort has the nicest staff of any resort I've been to.

The food during breakfast and lunch at the Regency is just your average buffet food; therefore, it gets a three. But, the food during the evenings was superb at every restaurant. Make sure you make your reservations early so you get to visit all of the restaurants you want. I would recommend the French restaurant, Royal Thai, and Tokyo Joe's over at Montego Bay.

The resort's location is close to the airport, so you will hear some plane noise during the days, but it's really not that bad. It's much better than how close Sandals Montego Bay is to the airport which is right behind it. At times, it's really cool to watch a plane taking off and banking left to go home. The airport is probably about a mile or two away, so the plane's are around 2,000-3,000 ft up by the time they're at the resort.

All in all, I would recommend this resort to every couple I know. One day, we'll be coming back!

I chose Sandals Royal Caribbean for my honeymoon. I arrived with high expectations due to the cost. In my week long stay the resort and staff met my expectations with smiles on their faces. From Odane at the Mariner grill to Jeffrey and Valentin at the pool, each staff member went out of their way not only to serve, but to do it in a way that you were friends by the end of your stay. The resort and room were well kept. The food was excellent. And we never felt crowded. We had a great
time and will return soon.

We are here now as returning guests. We came back "home" because the resort is beautiful, the room (same as last year) is perfect and the entire staff is wonderful. A very special thank you to Ellis and Hughill our butlers again, Nicole, Annecia and Danaree for their attention to details and making each day special. We definitely recommend this resort. We will be returning again. Thank you Sandals!

Room Tip: All the rooms are really nice and it depends on what you like (swim up suites, beach front, etc.). W...

This was our first time at this resort. Before I go further, I must say that this resort is about 5 minutes away from the Montego Bay Airport, and the planes started taking off at 7:30 am. We stayed from June 28/13 - July 8/13 in a beachfront room. The room was nice, but still needed an update, which some of the more expensive rooms already received. Since this was not our first time at a Sandals, we knew what to expect from the staff. They were excellent. We've been to many all-inclusive resorts, and Sandals staff are always superior! One downfall, you had to get up very early to beat all of the butlers to some of the best seats at the beach- about 5:30 am to be exact, or the butlers take all of the best seats at the beach. The beach was well staffed with barmaids. Nicola was our barmaid and she went above and beyond for us. She was fantastic! She even made our drinks for us, because we preferred the way she made them. She was always there with a new drink even before we ordered. Having the pizzeria and bbq grill on the beach was convenient and the food was very good. All in all, this was a very relaxing holiday, however, this Sandals was not on the same level as the Sandals Whitehouse which is also in Jamaica. This could be due to the Whitehouse being removed from all other resorts, or because it is a new resort. The beach areas are small compared to Whitehouse. We would probably go to another Sandals and not return to this one.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Sandringham" building and it was great because it was beachfront. We wer...

This was the perfect resort for my husband and me because all we wanted to do was chillax and that is all we did. On the third day my husband actually said " this is the best day I've had in 20 years". We liked the fact that this was not a “party resort” but still had couples of all ages and from all over the world.

Our butlers Flo, Adia, and Ian made sure we were very well taken care of. Kachen and Nicole our cabana butlers for three days were amazing. Food and drinks flowed and we never wanted for anything. Every single employee we encountered went out of their way to be hospitable and genuine. Several employees stopped by on our last day to say good bye and wish us safe travels.

The lunch food on the private island is the best. Jerk chicken & jerk sausage with an amazing gravy served with red beans & rice and steamed callaloo. Lavalo is an awesome chef who tells me this is what the Jamaicans call their comfort food. We ate on the island every day for lunch...it was that good.

There is a few areas that could be improved upon…most food was just average, pools could be refurbished, shuttle bus from the airport dirty and hot. Also, there were cats everywhere. WTF? But all in all it was the relaxing getaway we needed. The staff added more to our experience than any negative aspect detracted from it.

P.S. Club MoBay is well worth the extra $30 per person. You get to bypass immagration and security lines. The lounge was great and had a wide variety of tasty tidbits and premium drinks.

Room Tip: If you get a ocean walkout room consider getting one on the second floor because they are more priva...

My husband and I stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean for our honeymoon in 2008 and again in 2013 for our 5 year anniversary. It is beautiful, fun, and relaxing. We booked both trips through Beach Bum vacations. Erica Clapp booked this trip for us. She was very helpful and answered all of our questions! I definitely recommend booking a vacation with her help!
