“We love SRC.......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2007

This was our fifth visit to Jamaica, third visit to SRC. We celebrated our 5th anniversary there. This was the first time we flew first class with Air Canada, and I highly recommend it. When we arrived to the resort, we were taken to the concierge room right away and given a cold towel and Red Stripe and champagne. In a matter of a few minutes we were whisked off to our room in the Kensington Block. The room was beautiful and I was really surprised. We had asked for the same room we had last year, as it was nice, but we must have gotten an upgrade! The weather was a bit rainy at times, but the rain didn't last very long and cooled things off a bit. The food was pretty good, and we enjoyed the new addition of the Cricketeers Pub. Our room service breakfasts were always on time. My favorite drinks are Hummingbird, Dirty Banana, Banana Daquiri, and Mudslide. Our favorite restaurant is the Pavillion because its Jamaican cuisine and we are big fans. On Weds was the SSG dinner and it was really really good and we sat with the same couple we did last year. Friday was the SSG boat cruise which was alot of fun, and we enjoyed the Friday night beach party and fire dancer. The staff was friendly and helpful as they always are, and we met alot of great people.

  • Liked — Close to the airport, smaller resort, beautiful room, great food, friendly staff
  • Disliked — Only complaint this trip was lack of internet service being available

On arrival shown to room. Very diapointed,as i had booked the holiday to celebrate our 33rd wedding annerversy and my wifes birthday. The room was very tired to say the least. Late night partie's on the beech outside our room did not help matters.
We requested a room away from the noise, none where availibale. With the out side dinning moved inside, due to rain. 1 1/2 hour waits for the inside dinning Rain come through the light fittings The last straw was when our hot water ran out.
These and other matters resulted in us requesting to go home.
We were then moved to the White House (For 6 nights) then to Sandals near dunns river ( For 4 nights). Both for a lot better than the royal caribbean. Pity we wasted 4 nights there and two days packing and moving.
On the up side. The pool was great the staff most polite and helpful. Food average , Beech clean,
Cannot comment on the sports, to busy consoling the wife
If you like relaxing and peace and quite go to sandals white house.

  • Liked — nothing
  • Disliked — noise unfinished broken fittings ect

We just returned from our honeymoon at the Sandals Royal Caribbean, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Let me just start by saying it was an unforgetable trip. This was our first trip out of the country and we wouldn't change anything about this experience. (Other than making it a longer stay) When we first arrived at the resort we were greated with cold towels and champagne. We were then taken to our beachfront room where we were a little disappointed with what we had paid for. The room overall was small and not very romantic. Our view from our second floor balcony was almost completely blocked by a large tree.
For the first couple of days we were really a little disappointed with the decission on our honeymoon location. But after a couple of days we started getting more involved with the activities that the entertainment team created and we started having a much better time. The food and entertainment was very good. Although at most of the dinners we had to wait quite a while before being served our dinners.
Wetook a day tour to Negril while we where here and the tour guide told us that Jamaicans have three speeds, slow, slower, and reverse. We all laughed when he told us this but come to find out its true. Its also common to hear the saying just go with the flow, which is really what you have to do to have a good time. This resort seems to attract more of a middle aged crowd and has a romantic feel in the evenings. The resort has beautiful vegetation with increadable assortments of flowers and unique plants. The beach is quite small but there is plenty of room for everyone to put there feet in the water.
The employees of the resort are absolutely some of the nicest people we have ever met. They are always checking on you to make sure you have everything you need without being to pushy or make you feel uncomfortable.
After staying at this resort we decided that we would definately return to this resort. Another tip to make the trip more enjoyable is if your a little reserved like we are you may want to travel with another couple.

  • Liked — everything was close together, didn't have to walk a great distance to get anywhere.
  • Disliked — Some Workers were overly friendly.

We and three other couples went to Jamaica and did a split stay with Royal Caribbean and Sandals Negril. I don't want this to be a comparison between the two resorts, but they are different, just had a really nice time and appreciated all RC had to offer. It did rain the first couple of days but did get sunny. The beaches were nice, but because Montego Bay is in such a big bay that it felt like we were on a lake not on the ocean. Grounds were very well maintained someone was always sweeping the beaches or cleaning. Thought the food was good, went to Montego Bay and ate at the Cucina Romana and had one of the best Italian meals ever. Tried to get into Tokyo Joes, but it was booked. Royal Thai was good, but not as spicey as I had wanted, and windy. The Regency was solid, ate there two different times, plus breakfasts. Drinks were plentiful and if you wanted an extra shot of alcohol, no problem.
We stayed in the Kensington Building and really enjoyed it, nice room with a good remodeled bathroom and deck. If we ever went back I would stay in this building again, because some of our friends stayed in different buildings and these were the nicest of all the rooms.
Had a blast at Cricketeers, the bartenders are funny and keep the energy high.
All concidered had a great time, after we stayed here for four nights, stayed at Negril for three nights, had we known how amazing negril was, would have stayed at Negril for the four nights. But still glad we did the split stay to find out how amazing Negril was, and glad we went there last.
One thing I would note that we didn't know, even with a lot of research, is I would not exchange any money, everything in Jamaica is based on the U.S. dollar so when we went to places off "campus" we had to think in our head about converting our Jamaican dollars back to U.S. The people at Sandals are friendly hard working people and if you take the time to get to know them a little they will bend over backwards for you. Loved the whole Sandals experience and would definately do it again.

  • Liked — the all inclusive resort, two thumbs up
  • Disliked — some buildings look a little tired, the jets taking off

Just got ba ck from SRC. The only upside to this place was the IMPECCABLE SERVICE! The butlers and the staff do an outstanding job! We were very pleased with the service and that's about it. We have stayed at Sandals in Negril, and this place cannot even compare. We upgraded to The River Suites. Our room was beautiful, but nothing special, the lazy river was too cold to enjoy, we could not sit outside our room to lounge becuase we were EATEN ALIVE by mosquitoes and spent our nights before bed trying to kill them...no joke..the walls of our room were literally covered which bug splatter...deet or no deet! We should have kept our original booking for the beachfront royal suites,I really would not even call them beachfront because there's NO BEACH at this place, but at least it would be some sort of view! The food was the WORST we have ever eaten, the best food was from the beach grill and the cheese and crakers brought to us by our Butler for our evening snack before dinner. If you are expecting a beautiful beach and good food....don't stay here...go to Sandals Negril. Don't forget, YOU WILL BE BITTEN BY MOSQUITOES-BUG SPRAY OR NOT ! My husband and I are covered.

  • Liked — butler service
  • Disliked — mosquitoes in our bed.

This is a review that should have been written May 16, 2007, the after we returned from our vacation. But ... This was our fourth trip to Sandal's Royal and again it surpassed our greatest expectations of a wonderful trip. The service was excellent, the rooms were up to date, clean and we had fresh towels every day. We are not hard to please but do enjoy good service and food on our trips. Sandals was not lacking for either. The breakfast's were out of this world, not only the food, but the chef's and servers made it extra special. Dinners were also good. We visited Montego Bay Sandals, which also had some excellent restaurants. Only suggestion we have with each visit is that the Island needs to have a fruit bar or small snack bar. You cannot take food from the beach grill over to the island, which even if you could, it would be touch as the boat only runs on the hour. The island really needs to have a small food bar. BUT we survived!

Every member of the staff went out of their way to assist in any need we had. It was our 35th wedding anniversary and we renewed our vows. We too my 83 year mother along with other family members and the staff provided mats in my moms room so she didn't slip and asked continually throughout her stay if she needed anything at all. Even after she left, (we remained to really start our vacation!!!) staff asked if she arrived home safely and sent their love upon our departure. We remember many of staff who made a special impact on our visit.

The only thing we think could be improved at Sandals is the entertainment. Needs to have more adult style nightly entertainment.

Other than the entertainment, it is our one and only choice. We have made many friends with the Sandals family and love to come home to visit as often as we can. They make it very difficult to go anywhere else. We have made 11 or 12 visits to Sandals resorts and have not been disappointed in any of them. Far exceed vacations at the Atlantic Ocean beaches!!! Each resort has its own specialness in our hearts and if you choose to visit, you defintely will not be disappointed.

Again, thanks to the Royal staff for making our vacations the best ever and vacations that will forever be in our memories. We'll be visiting you in Antigua in January and back at the Royal Caribbean in June 2008. Can't wait to see our special friends again!!

We traveled the first week in November and the resort was beautiful. But first the bad.

When you book this resort you are under the impression that tipping is not allowed. This is far from the truth. Although the employees wear buttons that say "Don't tip me" when they find out your are leaving, they turn it on. Showing you pictures of their kids, asking to help them out. Now it wasnt everyone at the resort, mainly the bartenders. It got to the point where we didnt want to go into the bar because is was so uncomfortable being around theses people 'asking for a tip'. It was a real turn off and reuined our evening with friends one night. Sure we tip back here in the states, but dont sell me a resort where tipping is prohibited and wear a button telling me not to tip you and then ask for a tip. We eventually caved in and tipped a few people.
We tipped the maid $2 daily

Now the good.

The grounds were clean and beautiful and the new pub was fun. The room was clean, on the second floor overlooking a pool up front by reception, not sure what the name of the building was. The private island was great, very quiet, but not enough chairs around the pool for everyone. The pool and hot tub on the island was open, but a little dirty and the bar was open also. The beach on the island is clean but small and we enjoyed the piece and quite there.

Dining under the stars was canceled due to weather, but the friday night beach party was fun. The people from Magaritaville
came in and played some games, which were fun.

The Royal Thai was great and I also recommed making reservations in advance. It was a little rainy, but the dragon boat
was covered so it was not a problem. Our favorite restaurant by far was The Courtyard restaurant, great atmosphere and great food. The regency was slow and not that great. The beach grill was open till 4am I think, which is great since the pub and piano bar close around 2am.

We flew Air Jamaica from Chicago, with no problems. We were shuttled to the airport about 3 hours early from sandals and ate at the Margaritavill restaurant at the airport.

We tipped the bus driver both ways, and did not take any excursions, we were only there for 5 days. The playmakers are fun and keep you busy if you want to.

Overall the resort was great and we had a blast, no wattering down of drinks here. The only downside was the pressure from a few employees to Help them out.
