This resort is very nice. Nice location, good food, rooms in the Sunrise Tower are renovated and clean. Staff are very friendly. There is not to much bad I could say about this resort. A vacation is what you make of it and we had an awesome time. We did hear some negative comments when we where there but I really think those people are born complainers.
We went on a day excursion on a catamaran, snorkel stop and then on to Dunn's River Falls and climbed the mountain. We also took a shuttle bus from the resort for 3 hours of shopping. There is a water park on site so it's is equiped for children as well as big kids.
The only disappointing thing about our trip was the Thoimas Cook (Sunquest) changing this flight time and loosing 13 hours of our 1 week vacation, and having to wait at the airport in Jamaica for an hour and a half because there was a passengers luggage that didn't arrive. In closing, I will return to this resort and I will recommend it to other people.

Check-in was a breeze. Stayed in a double room with my Uncle and Mum. Room very clean, nicely decorated and adequate towels. Food great, staff accommodating and lovely atmosphere. The hotel seemed to be made up of Canadian citizens escaping the cold 'No Problem'. Get to the dessert table early, as it can look a bit messy after everyone tucks in. I love Bob Marley so much, but 2 days straight ALL day I heard the music over and over again. I guess over the weekend the day staff is not around to change or something. Stayed for 3 nights and spent 11 nights in a Villa. Its a very large hotel, I felt a bit overwhelmed at first but would definitely stay again.

Other than a wait at the airport to get to the resort (1 hour - which was not the hotel's fault) and a mix up with our rooms the first night, the experience was tremendous! We were (4) hardworking ladies who really needed some R & R and boy did we get it! Kristine at the front desk was amazing in rearranging our rooms. Byron (casino bar) was the first person we met and was totally engaging! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The a la carte restaurants were excellent (Kevon at the italian restaurant and Ted at Silk Road were superb!). The food was plentiful and delicious. It is a family resort and there were a lot of children, but they were so well behaved that you hardly noticed. The entertainment was diverse and plentiful. Dionne at the beach bar was fantastic. The beaches and pools were pristine! The exercusions off the resort are excellent (especially Cool Runnings with our hosts Jody and Omar). I had a (30) minute hot stone massage - they know what they are doing!

We just spent two weeks at Sunset beach, and enjoyed it far more than we had expected. The property is doing a great job connecting all the dots as a family resort, but there was a great vibe present for all the adults/couples we saw there as well. Service at all the eating venues was extra-ordinarily good, and we were particularly taken with the Italian restaurant....extremely well run with a menu we never got tired of! We have watched this hotel go through many changes over the past few years, and it's all been for the better. All in all, we consider it very good value and have in fact been recommending it to many friends back in Canada looking for a safe bet in their first Jamaican experience.

Travel dates: Jan. 4th - 18th
We got an amazing price for this vacation ($800/week), so with that in mind I believe this resort to be an excellent value. Obviously we did not expect a Sandals or Club Med.

Things we were expecting to be not so good according to the reviews on TA:
Check-in: Arrived at the hotel around 18h00, small line, smooth process, got the room right away
Towels: Once we waited 10 minutes, otherwise no wait
Room: Renovated, comfortable bed and 6 pillows for a king bed (Tower A), no issues with hot water.
Check-out: Requested late check out without problem

Nice surprise:
With our Sunquest package (Family First), we got free wifi internet access for the whole stay. Usually $30/week or $15/day. WiFi area is in the lobby, but we got some reception in our room on the 6th floor. Our Travel agent had recommended the Family First package over Sunquest Plus (same price) even though we were not travelling with our teenage daughters. Family First guests are in Tower A (renovated) and get free wifi (not included with Sunquest plus). Did not need to ask for it, insctructions and password were offered at check-in. If planning on using Skype, better bring headphones, as it can get pretty noisy in the lobby.

Pros:
Food is excellent (buffet and restaurants), great variety, lots of vegetables, everything fresh. Incredible desserts. Lots of jamaican cuisine. The jerk chicken at the grill is really good (otherwise, the food at the grill is regular fast food). Nice drinks, ask for a Banana Daiquiri, excellent (when they have bananas!) and don’t hesitate to request Appleton rhum in your drinks.

Lobby: Very large and inviting. Great place for a drink, lots of lounge chairs and atmosphere.

Beaches and pools: Some are quieter and less crowded, so it's nice to be able to change according to mood. Entertainment at main pool can be quite loud, not our style... Beach near Tower B: great snokelling spot, water shoes are recommended (rocks and plants) but not absolutely necessary. No bugs anywhere, day or night.

Staff: Very friendly and courteous. We loved the Jamaican vibe.

Things that need improvement:
Beach and pool lounge chairs, some (probably 50%+) really need to be trown in the trash.
Unfortunately, guests leave their cigarettes butts everywhere, same for plates and glasses. Either educate people, add ashtrays/trash bins or have more staff to clean up.

As mentioned in other reviews, lots of kids including infants and babies. No surprise, it’s a family oriented resort. But some of these kids seemed unsupervised and were quite unruly. Not fun for other guests. Some parents need to show a little more responsability... The clothing optional beach is very nice but was almost always empty, it should just be designated as an adult-only beach instead of clothing optional...

In general, we loved our stay. The weather was fantastic. Went to Negril for a day, twice to the Hip Strip (shop owners can be quite insistent, we did not buy anything from them). Great selection of items at the hotel store, approximately the same price when we compared to gift/souvenir shops in Negril or the Hip Strip. Local crafts are exposed for sale a few times a week in the hotel. Great way to shop, less vendor harrassment than on the Hip Strip... Also, you can buy your Jamaican rum and any other alcohol directly at the airport in the secured area. They pack your prurchase and you can bring everything with you on the plane.

Would go back without hesitation if the price was good, loved Jamaican people and cuisine.

First off let me say, we got this hotel last minute for an extended weekend girls trip at a reasonable price! We are 3 married women in our 30's and we do realize you get what you pay for. The food and drinks were really pretty good! The maid service and restaurant servers were very nice and attentive. The resort needs a good over haul, it is really run down and if redone could be very nice. The rooms were old and dingy, NO hot water around dinner time. It isn't very clean, they need to throw away the beach chairs and buy new. Pool nor pool area's wasn't kept clean! The activities people were very vulgar and forward with us. They were constantly saying obscene things to us and wanting us to meet them in the waterslide towers to smoke Ganja!(which none of us do) We couldn't pass them without them doing something! There was one named Clyde who was great! He was constantly doing everyone elses work and was very informative and helpful! They need to get rid of those activities people, they really were scary!

It was our first time to Montego Bay Jamaica. We fealt so welcome as soon as we landed. The Jamaican people are wonderful human beings that have such respect for their land and their culture and beliefs. The resort was surrounded by breathtaking views and beauty. It had a taste for most fun loving people that would vaction their. They had more english speaking guests than any other place we have ever been too in the tropics! That was great for us since we don't speak any french. The hotel loves animals, so many cute cats roming the grounds. If you don't like cat's then maybe this isn't the place for you! The Resort is so relaxed and you couldn't find a better place to feel so warm and welcomed. Nothing is perfect and having that attitude only makes the trip more fun. Complaining about the beach chairs and complaining about the "little stuff" isn't what it should be all about. If your looking for perfection then maybe the Ritz Carlton would be a better choice. Complainer's have no real fun! It is the tropic's and it is an honor to be welcomed into such a wonderful, beautiful country. We are the visitors and everything to us was a dream come true! The waters were fantastic to snorkle in and we even seen a Barracuda! So much amazing life to see under the water! The pools and fun park are a great attraction and most guest seemed very "down to earth"! That is sometimes hard to find on Resorts anywhere you go! If the crowd is right then the trip can be so much more relaxing and fun! The food was very close to Canadian food and the sweets were very tasty as well. The room was clean and most of the staff were very friendly! Me and my husband, brother and sister in-law will be returning again and again! We will be bringing the kids for sure! In my opinon this resort ranks at a 5 star in my books. Nothing a little paint couldn't fix.Why pay extra just because it's newer? For the value it is fantastic! I can't see us going anywhere else but the Sunset Beach resort in Montego Bay Jamaica! Very Irie indeed mon! We didn't want to leave!
