My husband and I are from NYC and we were very nervous planning a destination wedding for ourselves and 50 guests. However, our wedding was AMAZING and the staff at Half Moon could not be nicer. Our wedding group occupied 4 villas and we had our rehearsal dinner on the pool deck of villa 58, which ended up to be wonderful. I highly suggest booking that particular villa for catered events because of the large pool area. Our wedding ceremony and reception was at the Royal Pavillion - which was a perfect setting for us. We were thrilled from the first second we stepped on the property to the moment we left.

The resort is 50 years old, but they are doing a great job keeping it upadated. We noticed that they seem to spread out the renovations - so some guest rooms in the main hotel are much nicer than others. The villas are awesome for large groups - but the accomodations are not 5 star - keep that in mind. I would definitely say 4 star, though. Things like - normal size tub instead of a large one, two twin beds pushed together to make a king size, not enough power outlets, etc. HOWEVER - the service in the villas is unmatched to any other resort I have ever been to. Beyond 5 star quality with the villa service.

After the wedding, my husband and I moved into one of the Hibiscus Junior Suites which was beautiful. The accomodations in that room were top notch, but the service was very slow. (We needed to get the mini bar key which took them 5 phone calls over 8 hours to get it to us!)

The food for the catered events was superb. No complaints there. However, food at the restaurants was ok. The italian restaurant was mediocre - not worth it. Seagrape was good. Truthfully, we found that the more casual the food choice, the better it was. We actually enjoyed the room service food, la baguette, and the food at the beach bar more than the food at the pricey-er restaurants!! (Also, the pulled pork sandwich at the beach bar near seagrape was awesome.)

Being from NYC, we are very picky - and - we were very happy at Half Moon. We would definitely return for a future vacation.

We visited Half Moon for a second time planning our wedding. Everything was perfect. Everyone was so unbelievably accommodating. I do not see how anyone could think that the staff is not pleasant, unless they bring negativity wherever they go.

On our last trip, unfortunately I tripped and hurt my foot. They gave us a complimentary golf cart, nurse called me daily and everyone was very helpful. If you start conversation with the staff, they have great personalities, stories about the Jamaican culture and enrich your stay.

The atmosphere is very laid back, but do not misunderstand if you want to be busy there are plenty of activities for both couples and families.

Our second trip made us even more certain to have our wedding there. I am confident that our guests will have a fabulous time at Half Moon. The part I love most about the resort is the old Jamaican style that it has. Not the typical American Resort. All rooms have a door to the outside to enjoy the Caribbean weather, opposed to walking through a hallway.

The Half Moon Resort is second to none for service and attention to the needs of discriminating travelers. From the moment you arrive to the moment you depart, you are not a number, and the extremely well trained hotel staff is eager to do whatever it takes to make your stay special and distinctive.

My wife and I wanted to do something special for our wedding and honeymoon, and found the wedding services of our Half Moon Wedding Planner, Shanoya Watson, to be super-fantastic. Shanoya looked after every detail for us, and surprised us by exceeding our expectations on a number of occasions. For example, being greeted at the gate and expedited through customs was a really nice touch upon arrival to Jamaica, and we were also impressed with Shanoya's ability to coordinate our musician, wedding photographer, minister, and guests so that everything could take place as planned. The wedding was flawless, thanks to Shanoya's attention to detail.

The resort has an updated classic yet modern luxury feel with iron tables and chairs, columns throughout, open air and enclosed restaurants, and a waterfront so large that they rent you bikes so that you can see it all during your stay! The Hibiscus Suites are spacious and beautiful, and the west cottages are quaint and have private pools. There isn't a bad room on the property, but I'd suggest the west cottages during less busy times because they overlook sunset beach which is clearly the best beach on the property for swimming. All of the beaches are great for walking, however the sea bottom by the private hibiscus suite beaches has rocks (a small price to pay for a mostly private beach, and you're a short walk away from sunset beach!)

The hotel guests are affluent, often with kids during school holidays, and the dress code requires pants, shoes and a nice shirt at dinner only. For breakfast and lunch, you have to have a shirt and flip-flops are fine. The dress code is more for men than women. We were at this resort during Easter Week when they were sold out, and the service was still unbelievable. Also, we had feared that the kids would be an issue, and found that the Hibiscus area with its semi-private beaches were kid free. We also spent several days on Sunset Beach by the West Cottages, and kids were not an issue there either. The place is so large, that you can always find privacy when you need it.

If you stay at this resort, the Platinum Plan makes a lot of sense. It covers your non-motorized activities, drinks, mini-bar, room-service, beach service, horseback riding, bike rental, and just about anything else you'll need with a few exclusions such as swimming with the dolphins, and drinks in the shopping village restaurants. Without the Platinum Plan, expect to pay approximately US$100 per person for dinner (if you like appetizers, a few drinks, and dessert), $35 Per Person for Breakfast and $35 per person for Lunch, and $9 per alcoholic beverage during the day. The resort also has a Gold Plan for those looking for a semi-all inclusive option.

Thank you Half Moon for making our wedding so memorable! We'll definitely be returning soon!

We booked our weddingmoon through a travel agent (Chris Bulava) who recommended the resort and got us a super rate!:

The grounds of this hotel were stunning but found that some of the staff were rude and the food was terrible, we would go to breakfast and there would be flies all over it. The saving grace for this hotel were the kids club, the grounds and the bruno the dolphin. I had always wanted to go to Jamaica and found that me and my family were dissapointed.

We stayed in a 5 bedroom Royal Villa (#58) with a dedicated housekeeper, cook and butler. Our initial impressions were not great, because the amenities were not up to the standard of a 5-star resort (Four Seasons, One&Only, Ritz Carlton). Half Moon definitely grew on us during the course of our vacation because of the activities, great food and the benefits of having a large family staying in a villa instead of multiple hotel rooms. Overall, I would highly recommend a Half Moon villa as long as you go in “eyes wide open”. This is a place we would return to without hesitation.

The Good:
-The service was excellent, surprisingly so for a Caribbean resort.
-Overall, the restaurants were expensive but very good. The beachside barbecue was excellent, and we also had good meals at Sugar Mill, Il Giardino and Akbar. -It’s difficult, but not impossible, to find healthy options at most restaurants.
-The private pool at our villa was quite large and perfect for a family with kids.
-The meals at the villa were good and varied. The cook was accommodating to special dietary needs. There’s no room service in the villas but we didn’t miss it.
-The children’s activities were great, including the dolphin experience (highly recommended), pony ride and large playground.
-The housekeeper took clothes left in the bathroom hampers every day and returned them cleaned and folded by the end of the day!
-The beach is very nice, with soft sand and there are plenty of beach chairs with both shady and sun-facing options.

The Bad:
-The villa’s bedrooms automatically lock every time you close the doors, and each had their own card keys. This was very annoying, especially with young children staying in a separate bedroom. Also, there is no powder room, meaning that you need a key to go to the bathroom.
-The villa was a bit run-down (older bathroom fixtures, shabby living room furniture, spotty TV reception) and with lower quality construction, particularly for the price.
-Quality of bathroom amenities (shampoo, aloe, towels) were more suited to a 3-star hotel versus a 5-star resort.
-The king size beds in the bedrooms were actually two twin beds pushed together.
-While the bedrooms and living room had A/C units, the villa wasn’t centrally air conditioned. The kitchen, bathrooms and common areas didn’t have A/C.
-The villas are far from the main resort (the property is on 400 acres), but this wasn’t an issue because each villa comes with two golf carts.
-Lighting is poor throughout the villa, especially in the bathrooms.

I have been very spoilt over the last 10 years to see the transformation of the Half Moon Resort from a good property to one that surpasses all others in the Caribbean

The Half Moon have spent a huge fortune on renovation and rebuilding the property and now all is perfect

We arrived with the Resort on 98% capacity with a great mix of Americans, British and Europeans. There was also a large party of Japanese who arrived as we were leaving. As the time we were there was during school holidays all parties included children who were mostly well behaved

The magic about the location is an endless shoreline and each stretch
of beach has its own breakwater constructed about 50 yards out to sea
to stop the large breakers but also to allow for continual fresh water. Each beach has been carefully designed and by excavating at certain points its leaves deep pools for those who enjoy deep water swimming

There has always been a friendly culture in Jamaican Resorts and the staff at the Half Moon are all so friendly as though they have all been made aware that it is the guests that keep them employed. From the humble gardener to the smart restaurant staff there was a 100% acknowledgement at all times - "Good Morning, Good afternoon, Good evening" and each time with a friendly smile!

The Restaurants varied from very good to good and the evening buffet in the main restaurant always offered a great variety of food. We found the beach bar.b.cue was good for parents with children but not as good for adults only. The Thai/Indian Restaurant was excellent but suffers from being off property and therefore not well supported.
The Sugar Mill Restaurant is superb and the Italian has some excellent dishes

The sports facilities were all of good quality and the tennis centre was always busy

The Management have always been approachable and, I understood, there
was always someone senior on duty to answer emergencies

We had a wonderful holiday and although it rained every day it was kind enough to do so during the night

Recently returned from Half Moon. We arrived and were upgraded from a deluxe room to the Habiscus suite without even asking. We had the Good Life package so between the upgrade and the package it was a great deal for the money. My wife and I loved everything about the resort. The people were incredibly friendly and the resort was clean and beautiful. We have never been to a Caribbean resort which had so many different activities and so much property. My wife and I played tennis and rode bikes along the water everyday. She had a massage which she loved while I took a tennis lesson from Chris who was terrific. We had dinner 2 nights at the Sugar Mill and loved the live music and really enjoyed the food. You can find bluer water and better beaches in the Carribean (their not bad by any means and they do a great job keeping them clean) but putting everything together we have not found a resort we have liked better. We can't wait to plan our next trip back to half moon and couldn't have been happier.
