“Wonderful experience for the entire family...amazing staff!”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

My husband and I rented a 7 bedroom villa this summer for our annual family vacation. The villa included the exceptional services of a butler, chef and housekeeper. The butler, Ferdinand, tended to our every need and assisted with scheduling activities and arranging transportation along with making the best smoothies and frozen drinks we've ever tasted. Our chef, Beverly, was a true culinary talent! She was thoughtful in her meal planning and presentation. Also, she is just an absolute delight to be around. Pamela was so thorough with her upkeep of the home and washed our clothing each day with such delicacy and care. She never failed to bring he lovely smile with her each day.

I would highly recommend Half Moon Bay along with Ferdinand, Pamela and Beverly as your house attendants. They will make your stay a truly lovely and unforgettable experience!

Room Tip: The villas are perfect for families or large groups.

We visited MoBay and Half Moon for a wedding. Typically when I spend thousands on a trip overseas, I choose a hotel located in the middle of the city so that I can spend minimal time there and most of my time wandering around aimlessly. However, if I ever have to be trapped at a resort again, I pray it is at half moon. There is really nothing I can say that hasn't already been said in the comments preceding this one. Visit half moon with friends and rent out a villa for royal treatment. Or stay in a oceanfront suite. We did both and you cannot go wrong. Pro tip: buy provisions including beer/wine at commissary. Your will save a great deal of $. Tube down the great river and eat at Marguerites, Pier 1 and Scotchies.

Dear Valued Guest,

It is certainly a pleasure receiving feedback from our valued customers, the Half Moon, A RockResort team strives to provide the best possible service and amenities to our treasured guests and their satisfaction is our reward.

We are thrilled you had an enjoyable Royal Villa accommodation; the villas provide the best option for families, friends and group who seek that home away from home ‘get-away’. Thank you for your kind compliments for the villa team, who stands ready at all times to deliver a ‘Royal’ experience.

We have observed that you have not only enjoyed the resort and its offerings, but attractions outside of the resort. Tube down the Great River is popular attraction among our many visitors to Jamaica.

Again, thank you for your favourable review – the Half Moon family looks forward to serving you when next you visit Jamaica.

Sincerely,

Shernette Crichton

Half Moon is a large and spread out resort that keeps to the old style Jamaican British style. The service is very good and the staff is very friendly. You have to be careful with the type of accommodations. They have some lovely suite type rooms with large balconies/patios. They also have some very small second floor rooms that have extremely small bathrooms. You can also be placed in an area that is a long walk to the restaurants and front desk.Electric carts and bicycles are available and highly recommended. The grounds are well manicured with plant of shade. The beach areas are nice, but their are rocks when you go in the water. Going on the all inclusive plan may be a better option then not being on the plan.Meal prices off the menu are very steep. The biggest problem encountered was that my key card had to be replaced twice. I think the hotel needs new locks they look old.The furnishings in the rooms is dated and needs a freshening up.

Room Tip: Close to the restaurants and lobby.

This was our 12th visit and we spent a fortnight at this lovely resort staying in the west cottages (61) which is right on the beach. Having reviewed the resort several times I won't go into great detail except to say we had a lovely time. Although out of season the resort was very busy mainly due to a couple of large weddings including one involving the owning family who were there in force. Whilst this was obviously a major undertaking for the staff we didn't notice any difference in the level of service in fact if anything it was even better than the usual very high standard. It would be difficult to name everyone who provided us with such excellent service as it applied throughout the resort but Norman my friend and caddy from the golf course deserves special mention for his infinite patience with my erratic golf game. Equally Caswell and team from the Cedar bar (try the frozen mojitos ) and Winston, Nadine,Everette and all the wonderful staff at the Seagrape. David at Il Guardino and of course Soloman at the Sugar Mill provided great service. Last but not least the lovely ladies at the Concierge and Donneka at the front desk were most helpful.
Just a couple of constructive criticisms: please can you reintroduce the spa plan as my wife really missed it and it's replacement really doesn't meet our requirements my wife being a non golfer. Failing that bring back the Platinum Plan which I think offered great flexibility and was easy to understand.
Secondly, and this is only a perception on my part, that since the advent of Rock Resorts it appears HM maybe looking more towards the mass market than previously. HM has always had a gentile old world charm to it and has enjoyed a very high percentage of return guests such as ourselves. It is not Sandals and I think to go after that market would be a mistake.
Having said that I'm sure we'll return next year to catch up with all our friends at HM.

My husband and I spent 5 days at HM after getting a deal on a flash sale site. We were torn between Puerto Rico and Jamaica and were so glad we chose to come to HM! The property is on a 2 mile stretch of beach (just 10 min from the airport), so even though this is a fairly large resort, it had the feel of a more boutique hotel. We stayed on the west side of the property in one of the cottages that had several rooms with ocean views and loved it. Given it it was low season, it was nice to have a large area of beach to ourselves, right outside the door. Some of the cottage buildings even have their own private pool, which I'd love to take advantage of the next time I visit. The room was well-appointed and kept clean by our very nice maid, Audrey. The only nit I had about the room is that the shower was very small - I'd personally prefer a larger shower to a large tub but that's just me.

Getting around the property is easy either by borrowing a bicycle from the resort and riding around or taking the shuttle around. I really liked having the bikes and also having the opportunity to enjoy other forms of exercise such as kayaking. There is a commissary on site, so you can also go there to purchase beverages, groceries, alcohol, etc. if you are attempting to economize a bit. The prices were very reasonable.

The most impressive things for us about this hotel were the quality of the restaurants and the friendliness of the service. The food far exceeded our expectations (we weren't on the all-inclusive plan), which hopefully says a lot for a couple of foodies from Manhattan. Robbie's Kitchen, Sugar Mill and Il Giardino were all great. I'd definitely recommend steering toward seafood options since they tended to be the best quality. We had excellent snapper at all 3 restaurants. Our waiter at Sugar Mill recommended an off-menu Jamaican style preparation of the snapper and it was delicious! The lunch we had at the Seagrape was so-so. Everywhere we went in the resort, the staff was super friendly and genuinely interested to know if we were enjoying our time or our meals. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make sure we were happy. Many of the restaurant staff stopped by to chat and offer recommendations on what to eat.

The next time we want a relaxing getaway, we will come back to this hotel. We've even recommended it to several friends and are hoping to come back with a larger group and get a villa or cottage where we can have our own private pool. Great trip!

Room Tip: The cottages on the west side of the property mainly have ocean views and the beach is very nice.

This place was true paradise, and the staff was super amazing and on top of their game. Went here for a 4 day trip for a wedding. I am a grad student with out a job and was hesitant to pay all this money, but I can say EVERY penny, (of Sallie Mae) was worth it!
