Myself, my wife and our three daughters just got home from an exceptional vacation.
By far the best vacation myself and my family have ever been on. We have been to several One and Onlys and numerous other five star resorts and none come close to Half Moon.
Unlike the High Rise Hotels in Aruba and The Bahamas where you are struggling for a quiet piece of beach, a spot at the pool or some quiet time with the family, Half Moon has the ability to provide all the experiences anyone, regardless of age can access and have a memorable experience. You can go to a public beach area, stay at your own private beach area or a variety of different pools with other guests or stay by yourself with your family in a private area. They have bikes and golf carts to get around the vast property with ease.
The restaurants are as good and in many cases better than any in NYC and the atmosphere is amazing and elequent. Food is a treat even when you order room service.
We have children of varying ages and there is something for everyone. Swimming with the dolphins, horseback riding on the beach, golfing and tennis all within the property provide an amazing experience. Set on hundreds of acres of perfectly manicured landscaping The half Moon has no equals.
My family will be returning to The half Moon many more times in the fututre.
I highly recommend Half Moon to anyone or any family.
John Munro and family

Room Tip: Imperial suites have the best ocean views and private areas

Hands down wonderful experience in Jamaica at Half Moon Bay. Let's start with logistics...3 1/2 hour direct flight from Chicago to Montego Bay. Same time zone as Chicago...teh airport is modern and well run..10 minute bus to the resort along a 4 lane highway. Okay...now the resort...400 acres of beautiful beaches, pools and every amenity under the sun. Activities galore...great food and staff. Family friendly, but not overrun with young kids (we have 6 kids so understand the fine line between family friendly and chaos). We have been the Half Moon for 8 straight years and never had an issue. We are an active family so appreciate you can get a great run in staying on property and that they have a large work out facility. We have used horse stables (huge-well run), tennis, spa, beach amenities etc. A little bit about Jamaica...it is safer than Chicago and you can head off property. We rarely do though as HMB has so much to offer.

I had dinner at the Italian restaurant and had an excellent meal. I am so glad we came early as there was a spectacular sunset over the ocean. I was also very impressed with the well-kept-up state of the grounds and buildings.

The staff were very helpful and courteous. Our food was good and the portions were generous. I had the Beef Carpaccio as an appetizer and it was very, very good. The only thing that would have made it better was to have a half portion of dessert, because by then I was seriously stuffed!

Our weekend trip to this hotel in Montego Bay felt like we were "Halft the world away". This romantic villa resort presents a balance between lush gardens surrounded by immaculate foliage and greeney along with a beautiful beachfront that boasts it own dolphin bay for you to swim and interact with the charming animals. The staff were eager and friendly and were all too happy to be of service....you dont want to leave....Half Moon is perfect for a Honeymoon....I sure felt like I was on one!

We (2 adults and two 9-year olds) travelled to Half Moon during spring break so the resort was at its capacity but you would never know it. Of course, the prices are the highest then too, but with kid’s school schedule we had no choice. Here is a quick recap if you are trying to decide to stay here:

1. Luxury fit for a queen-literally, she has stayed here. Along with Prince Charles, and many celebrities like Jackie and JFK, Venus and Serena, etc.
2. Spacious accommodations and no elevators! The highest buildings are only two stories. Most all have private beaches or semi-private pools. There are 54 pools total!
3. Nicest staff anywhere. There is no language barrier like in Mexico, PR or DR. There is a strong British influence left—get used to being called “Madame” and dining with tablecloths and silver outside. The staff wears black tie at night—very classy.
4. Bikes and golf carts are available, but really only needed if you stay in the private villas. We had bikes in the Royal Suites—it was fine. It was only 200 steps from our room to the main lobby.
5. Dining is fantastic. Plenty of kid menus (chicken nuggets!) and excellent food and wine choices. WAY better than Sandals food. Def 4 star quality. Sugar Mill is the best on resort.
6. All-inclusive option – We did the all inclusive because we didn’t want to think about it. However, to maximize that we did force ourselves to sit down to a three course meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And of course always have drinks throughout the day.
7. Clean and Safe. The beaches are cleaned every morning. The lounge chairs are all material (no resin at this resort anywhere!) Plenty of gates and security guards. Loved the housekeeping and turn down service.
8. Room Service is reasonable – only $6 fee for food delivered. Not bad at all.
9. Activities-Many people do the camp for the kids and they love it. We did not but know several who did. The spa is beautiful and quiet – if you book a treatment you get access to the private spa pool all week. Horseback riding was amazing. The dolphin experience is also a must. Expensive but worth it.
10. Golf – go early or late in day. It gets really hot midday. Caddies were great.
11. Close to airport – maybe 20 minutes away. Free shuttle was timely.
12. Beach Bar-B-Que is a must. African drum show, steel drum band, fire acts, all were excellent.
13. Poolside massages for free!
14. Tennis was great – instructors were amazing.
15. Water sports were great. Free snorkel, pedal boats, kayaks
16. Commissary on site – get your own groceries.
17. Attire – I liked the formality of attire, if you want casual, go to Bahamas. Bring plenty of cover ups, nice kaftans, and big sun hats.
18. Locating a Pool Chair/Beach Chair – you know that awkward feeling of walking into the pool area and not seeing an available chair? Well, not here, just ask the attendant to find you one and problem solved. Every resort should do this!!

Only cons: they spray for mosquitoes which works but bring your own spray just in case. Snack options not available to All-Inclusive guests. Example: you would have to pay for that hot dog or chips at the swim up bar.

Staff Shout Outs:
Thank you Mr. Chin, for personally showing my daughter where the bathrooms were. I know as a manager that’s not your job – but you kindly obliged.
Donnie and Stephen at the swim up bar – you make vacation fun.
Duane – Such a great equestrian and lovely islander. Big heart, big smile.
Gavin – the waiter who is everywhere all the time! Thanks for making us feel special.
Mortimer – At Sugar Mill, thanks for the history lesson on almond trees.

Room Tip: Get a room on ground floor for walk out patio to sand and ocean, especially if you have kids. Plus you can park bikes easier.
