It is always so full of people every day and every evening making it really interesting. They are talking about making it into a pedestrianised area which would be nice but where would all the cars go?

Thank lproom

Sam Sharpe Square has been allowed to fall into disrepair and is crowded with hoardes of people selling and begging. Total disappointment at what should have been an interesting stop on a sighseeing expedition.

Sam Sharpe square is located downtown Mobay in the heart of the City.I was informed by a tourist guide that this square was formerly called Charles Square back in 1981 and has since called Sam Sharpe Square. This they told me was to commemorate Sam Sharpe’s part that he and others played in the fight for freedom from slavery and colonisation. The story continued that In the aftermath of the 1831 rebellion which Sam Sharpe was involved in. They estimated that there were some 312 slaves were catch and set as an example by brutally hanging them at the gallows in the square.

Also in the square on special occasions they keep events like politicians speech or at times they would have some sort of festive concert there. Just nice area to hang out and take in the Jamaica people having debates like Plato and Aristotle in Athens.
