Owner description: Built during an era of elegance and brutality, Greenwood has retained the atmosphere of the 19th century and continues to capture the imagination of its visitors. The house was built by the Barretts of Wimpole Street London in 1800. Unique among local plantation houses, Greenwood survived unscathed during the slave rebellion of Christmas 1831. It still has most of its original furniture including the largest and rarest collection of musical instruments and books in the island.

“Excellent Antiques!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

This house is beautiful with an amazing view, and filled with incredibly maintained pieces. The different musical devices are very interesting and the demonstrations by the tour guide were great. It's definitely worth the entrance fee and not as "touristy" as others.

“Greenwood Greathouse - great view, great house!”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

We arrived in Montego Bay on a ship. We wanted to go to Greenwood Greathouse and Falmouth. We found Ashton Pitt through TripAdvisor. Ashton was very professional, great with email communication, and picked us up at the port and took us straight to Greenwood Greathouse. The view was fantastic. The historic contents of the house rival many museum collections...lots of unusual musical instruments and furniture. The view from the veranda was outstanding. Few tourists seem to go here. They are missing a real treasure. I highly recommend Ashton Pitt artconcepent.tours@yahoo.com and Greenwood Greathouse.

Like all "Great Houses" that contain so much of interest and the guides are always full of information to pass over to you.

“If you have an Interest in Colonial Jamaica, Greenwood is a Gem”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

The Greenwood Great House is located 30 minutes east of the Montego Bay Airport,
on the St.James and Trelawny parish border. As if time stood still over the last 400 years,
this Great House deserves to be shared with everyone who has a love and an interest
in Jamaica's colonial past. It Chronicles the history of the Barrett Family, who were
British nobility.
This Great House served as the anchor for one of the largest, more productive plantation
on the island, with the old town of Falmouth as it port to ship its products.

The state, preservation and the completeness of the Greenwood Great house has to be
experienced to be appreciated or believed.
The amazing thing is that for a period before electricity, the Industrial Revolution comes
alive in this incredible place, where everything still works.

The current owners live on the compound and my tour guide was know legible, friendly,
and courteous.
This was truly a very pleasant memorable experience.

“Best Greathouse”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

Wow, this was really and experience. I had been to many great houses before, but this one is by far the best kept and has the most memorabilia from the Plantation era. The owners (who are also your hosts) are a teriffic couple with so much knowledge. It is not contrived and the view from upstairs to see the bend of the earth is truly amazing. My only complaint was that it was too short.
