The Pelican is a very clean, modern restaurant, right on the hipstrip. The staffs are very efficient and the food is great. The menu has many of the traditional Jamaican dishes and the price is right!

Definetely visit this restaurant if you are in Mobay...

At the close of our recent trip to Jamaica I posed a simple question to my husband and our travel companions: what was the best thing about our trip? It was unanimous—breakfast at the Pelican Restaurant! Here’s why: the (Jamaican Blue mountain) coffee is rich, the bacon is crisp, and the omelets are delicious. And that’s just a start! Over the course of six days the four of us tried every item on the breakfast menu—including the traditional Ackee and Codfish with dumplings—and every time we enjoyed a perfect meal!
A quick look at the menu and one soon realizes that the Pelican is home to more than just delicious breakfasts. There is traditional fare like Oxtail Stew and Curry Goat—both of which are rich dishes full of meat and vegetables. The seafood is fresh and the vegetables—especially the callaloo—are seasoned just so. The dessert menu includes many homemade sweets including carrot cake and rum pudding. Notably, all of these dishes are prepared from local family recipes that include the native fruits and vegetables. As such, a visit to the Pelican Restaurant is a Jamaican culinary experience.

We went here on our first night after we arrived -- people were tired and hungry. This place was casual, fairly quick, and reasonably priced -- exactly what we needed. This place is essentially a diner or Friday's -- you'll get the same kind of glossy menu found in a diner or Friday's. The food is just average, nothing to write home about.

Would I recommend this restaurant? If you just need some descent quick food, yes. If you're looking for an authentic experience or amazing food, this is not the place for you.

Would I return to this restaurant? No, not unless I was in a pinch, especially since we had a $80 taxi ride (for 7 people -- roundtrip plus wait time).

The Pelican survives as one of the most authentic Jamaican establishments for downhome
good eating. During our last five day junket to Jamaica we ate there three out of four nights.

Aside from the obviously dated interior (60's style diner) Pelican serves up several generously portioned Jamaican standards. Dishes like Curry Goat, Oxtail, Fish Escovitch all stand the test of time and are well worth the money!

Leave room for their classic Rum/Bread pudding dessert or ice cream sundae. The only negative in this otherwise classic experience was the coffee which had unfortunately been left too long on the burner.

Seek out Pelican on your next visit to Montego Bay, garaunteed not to disappoint!
