Forres Park Resort & Spa

I've travelled extensively in Jamaica and I do not recommend Forres Park. The best thing about visiting the hotel is the manager (a lovely lady named Jasmine), who offers guests a warm welcome and responds quickly to their needs. She’s also a great cook. The staff members under her management are polite and helpful. The hotel has a rustic charm, but it is very overpriced. The rooms in the hotel and the cabins are cramped, furnished merely with the basics and the bathrooms need to be updated. The "deluxe" rooms are $200+ and do not offer the luxuries that one would expect for this price (we tried both room types). They even charge $50 a day for bike rentals. You can rent a car for a day at this rate. There is nowhere else to eat in the area, which forces guests to pay dearly for food. Our food bill for a four-day stay for two people totaled $400. It is impossible to reach the Blue Mountain Peak, which is an hour from the hotel, without a four-wheel vehicle and detailed knowledge of local roads. Hence, a hiking trip to the Blue Mountains, including a guide, will run you another $180. The park ranger charges international visitors another $20 for the hike. Mavis Bank, the town where Forres Park is located, has little of interest to offer, though we do recommend the tour of the local coffee factory. We found the local youths outside of the hotel to be hostile and unfriendly. Several men harassed my partner when he went for a jog one night. If you are searching for an affordable rustic place to stay in the Blue Mountains, the rooms at Mount Edge cost less than half as much as those at Forres Park, and it’s closer to Kingston. You can also stay at Whitfield Hall, which offers cheap basic hostel accommodations a few miles from the base of the trailhead for the Blue Mountain Peak. If you crave luxury, spend the extra $60 for a room at Strawberry Hill: one of the most highly rated hotels on the island. The owners of Forres Park would likely see an increase in their occupancy rates if they reduced their prices to match what other hotels of a similar quality charge.

We stayed one night at Forres Park. Very warm welcome and very helpful staff. The food is delicious and cooked to order. Meals are served basically when the guests wish to eat. Everything was very clean and cared for. The current manager Yasmin has been here 5 months and is doing an amazing job. We didn't find the food particularly expensive and as the tax is already included in the price you know what it really costs. Drinks may be a little more expensive but they come a long way up a difficult road. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

If you want samples of Jamaican countryside then this place is a must. Just don't try it in a Toyota Yaris. The Guest House was delightful as was the manager and her cooking. We should have stayed two nights and spent a day hiking but we still saw some great scenery.

Forres Park was a very nice place to stay in Mavis Bank, JA. The views were great, and when we got bored with the views, the pool/ping-pong room kept us entertained. The WiFi was also a nice addition. The food was a little expensive, but it was on location, making it safer than possibly traveling elsewhere without people we knew. Our room was clean, bathroom was nice as well. Overall a great place to stay, just a little expensive on the food.

Forres Park is a very charming option as a base for exploring the Blue Mountains area. We spent two nights here in December.

Forres Park offers about six rooms in its main building, and there are also cottages in the compound. We stayed in the second floor of the main building, where the rooms were very pleasant, and the veranda with its gorgeous views of the mountains was a perfect place to sit and hang out.

We booked a hike to the peak of Blue Mountain through Forres Park, and were very happy with the experience, with a great guide and driver (quite important actually, as the 1 1/4 hour drive from Forres Park in Mavis Bank to the trailhead at Abbey Green takes you through what must be the worst road in Jamaica.

Service in the hotel was delightful and very friendly.

The only negative - and the reason why this is not a 5-star rating - is the price charged for the food. I understand that the place is quite isolated, and am happy to pay a bit of a premium, but 18$ US for jerk port, or 7$US for fish tea was a bit too much.

Overall a very pleasant place to stay though, and I would definitely come back.

This two-star guesthouse provides for a much more enjoyable stay than any of the five-star hotels I visited in Jamaica. This is a small hotel, with perhaps four guestrooms in the main building. The rooms are quite simple in their furnishings. Mine had a bed, a fan (no air conditioning, as it is quite cool in the mountains) and a nightstand. The bathroom also was simple. There was not much excess space in the room, but there was a very comfortable balcony.

Why would I give such a good review to such a simple place? First, the bedrooms are small, bu their decoration is simple and tasteful. Most importantly, however, the staff is excellent and goes out of its way to make a stay here memorable.

Upon arrival, the manager presents the dinner menu. Having so few guests, meals are prepared only upon advance order. The food is absolutely delicious - the best I ate in Jamaica. Everything is prepared very carefully - and if guests have special requests for the manner of cooking, everything is done to accommodate them. After dinner, breakfast requests are taken. These are usually accompanied by an assortment of fresh fruit. These simple breakfasts had a much better quality than the huge breakfast buffets I tried at five-star hotels!

The Forres Park also arranges for excursions in the area - and provides packed lunches (again according to the requests of the guests). The excursions are a bit expensive, but if you go, you will see that they are worth the price. Roads are difficult and all-terrain vehicles are necessary to move around much in the Blue Mountains!

The common areas of the Guest House, especially the large verandas, are great places to relax in the afternoons and evenings. No place I stayed in Jamaica made me feel more welcome.

It is indeed a tough experience to drive to Mavisbank. Bad roads, no road indication, crazy wild drivers. So you should be warned, be prepared for a difficult drive and keep your nerves under control!! We stayed one night at Forres park. The staff is friendly but seems not interested to make an effort to make you feel at home. Expect nohelp to bring the luggage to your room on the steep stairs. The rooms are small and very, very, very basic. Congratulations for the do-it-yourself construction but then you expect a rate proportional to the comfort. This is unfortunately not the case. This is to expensive!!!
We had a nice dinner on the terrace. pumkin soup and a tasty piece of fish.Regular priced bottle of wine. Good breakfast. Paying with acredit card was accepted but not encouraged: it would a long time for approval. Finally yhis was not a problem at all!
You go to Mavisbank for the fantastic tropical forrest and the wunderfull nature
