“Education about Blue Mountain coffee production”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2008

A group of nine visited the factory Oct. 6, 2008. Barbara gave a wonderful tour explaining everything from the coffee cherries to the storage, curing, and roasting of the beans. We saw the beans being sorted by a number of workers. After the tour we enjoyed a taste of freshly brewed coffee. The charge was $5 US per person. Barbara was delightful, answering lots of questions and fun in her explanation of the coffee production process. Don't expect glass covered walkways. You'll be walking around the factory just as the workers do. You have to be physically able to negotiate the steps and uneven surfaces. Worth the price!

“Entry fee a catch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2007

A group of 8 of us went on a tour of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory recently. Be prepared when the tour guide tells you that the fee is Jamaican $500. What they mean is $500 per person and at the end of a very short tour with nothing special to see about the process you may end up with a large bill and not enough change to afford the coffee. Good luck.

“Nice place to visit, great coffee”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2007

Went to Kingston, Jamaica in Jan - Feb 2006 and I'm not a beach person, did not go once to the beach in two weeks. I like visiting places. I rented a car at the airport and drove all over the place. One of the places I went to, was Mavis banks.

The people are polite and the tour of the factory was well done. On that day, my cousin could not come with me, so I went alone and they did not mind showing me every step of the coffee production, from the plants where they grow to the final results ready to ship. The guide was very helpful in explaining every detail and patient, not pushy or in a hurry. The only little negative point was that the cup of coffee they serve you at the end was a little stirofoam cup and not a good sized mug. but that wasn't a big thing.

I recommend this tour, just call them up and you usually can come at any time of the day, they will be ready for you.
