I stayed for three days on a business trip to Jamaica. We had a retreat meeting in the hotel in a great room full of the gold and platinum disks of the hotel's owners. Service and food very good and more attentive than you find in some high end Caribbean destinations. But the views......simply stunning all round. My room , which was a mountain view cottage had a beautiful lush outlook and I spotted eagles and four or five different humming birds in a few minutes. The view down across Kingston as the sunset was awesome. Room quite simply furnished and only minor negative is bathroom could do with updating .

Dear Vyvienne W,

Thank you for your 5 star review! We are so glad to know you enjoyed your stay with us as even though it was for business you got to experience the leisure as well. We pride ourselves on continuing to exceed expectations on service from our staff. Please know as well, we are looking to update our bathrooms shortly while still keeping the 19th century Georgian style flair. We hope to see you again on your next visit to Jamaica.

One love,
Christina Taylor & the SH team

The view from Strawberry Hill over Kingston and its bay is absolutely stunning. The hotel rooms are spread over the hillside and all are secluded and peaceful. The menu is quite limited for lunch and dining, but everything is delicious and served by friendly, accommodating staff. There is a great infinity pool looking out over the city and a friendly little bar. Even if you can't stay at Strawberry Hill, do visit for a meal or a drink - it's well worth the effort to find it.

Let me start by saying the General Manager Gregory is OUTSTANDING and gets 5 Stars. Our problem was entirely out of his control.

We booked directly through the Strawberry Hill hotel a one night Monday stay. This resort is one of four of the famed Blackwell family. Being highly well traveled international business and leisure travelers, we are understanding of travel snafus but expected more from a Blackwell property.

We had a confirm #, and called again to confirm. We drove from Negril -quite a hike 8 hours in car- specifically to stay at Strawberry Hill, in the blue mountains. The next day was coffee plantation tours. To get up the mountain - 8 miles - is a grueling hairpin turn drive that takes 45 minutes. Upon arrival we were told there was no occupancy and we had no option but to go back down the mountain and stay in Kingston!!!

Again, the GM Gregory was kind. He bought us dinner. But, having run hotels and worked for the Hyatt, Carlson corp, and Radisson this was inexcusable. The hotel did call our state side phone number one hour prior to check in - they did not say they were over booked - they just said to call them. Well, a Minnesota phone does not reach Jamaica.

I understand if a room is broken and needs to be taken out of inventory. But, in this case there was a huge wedding group that evidentially did not vacate in time, hence our room was occupied even though we paid $425 for the confirmed right to that room. Unlike city hotels, you can't just kick guests out - there is nowhere to go on top of a mountain.

We drove another hour down to Kingston, and stayed in the lovely Spanish Court hotel, but we're stuck at then end of the floor under construction (306) and the cost of this room was 1/2 what Strawberry hill was. So, this substitution was totally not equivalent.

We plan to work with the Blackwell company to resolve this. But - heads up - do NOT venture up here unless you get absolute confirmation prior to check in that you have a room.

Thanks for taking the time out to express your views on your experience. Ultimately as the General Manager of one of these great Blackwell properties the 'buck stops with me' and I take full responsibility for your unfortunate experience.
We have since instituted that every guest be contacted 48 hours prior to arrival just to gather any further information that would be helpful such as any local numbers and any special requests that would be in place for you on arrival.
Without question we have prepared a compensation package for you and wanted to hand it personally to you based on our conversation about your return on Wednesday or Thursday. Expect this soon and look forward to your return.

Dropped in for lunch after an off piste experience on the blue mountains roads, initial problem of poor signage overcome, we had a great lunch here and would definately come back to stay! Views across the mountains and Kingston are spectacular.

Tried the spa services and the restaurant. The grounds and the spa itself are a beautiful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Kingston. The spa services were quite good. On a par with what I would get at a Spa in Canada. Prices were reasonable too. The restaurant was good although I'd recommend the fish over the lamb just because of portion size. The lamb was good, just on the smallish side.

Well we will have to review our portion sizes especially when it comes to the Lamb. All in all thanks for your comments on the Spa and overall dining experience. Come back and stay with us in the future.

My husband and I have just returned from a five night stay over the Christmas period at Strawberry Hill, and have nothing but praise for every aspect of the hotel. After being picked up at the airport, our driver took us up through the winding mountain roads telling us about the local history of villages, whilst still managing to avoid most of the pot holes enroute! On arrival we were taken to our cottage which over looked the breath takingly beautiful Blue Mountains! Our cottage was perfect, a one bedroom studio (very comfortable bed) with balcony where we would have our morning coffee watching the everchanging colors of the mountains - nature is a wonderful thing and very prevalent here! The staff are a huge asset to the hotel, nothing was too much trouble, in fact they were all so friendly that we felt more like family than guests, and lots of sad goodbye's when we left ( we will be back Jasset and Daniel). The restaurant and bar area were both very comfortable, and the food was delicious and well presented. We were lucky enough to enjoy not one, but two of Strawberry Hill's wonderful brunches! Christmas day brunch was fabulous, and despite the rain, the hotel management (thank you Gregory and Vincent) and their well trained staff made it seem more like liquid sunshine, and the whole thing went off seemingly effortlessly! We visited the spa, (which is set in beautiful lush gardens with a waterfall - very pretty) for massages, which were so relaxing, that I wondered if my legs would work to carry me back to the cottage!! The general upkeep of the grounds is amazing, with gardeners constantly grooming the colorful blooms. The 'piece de resistance' is of course the infinity pool with stunning views of Kingston -especially at night! A huge thank you to all of the staff at Strawberry Hill that made our stay so special! We are already planning a return visit - see you in the summer!

I didn't stay, but thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The views and facilities were exceptional. As a place to visit and perhaps stay, it would certainly rank very high and I would certainly love to visit again and stay so as to benefit from all the complex has to offer.
