“By Far the Best Hotel in Kingston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

My friends and I just returned from Jamaica where we had the best time at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston. Having stayed at the Pegasus, Wyndam and Terra Nova in the past, the Spanish Court is by far the best hotel in Kingston. The modern decor is vibrant, stylish and well maintained. The accommodation super comforable. The service was superb, the entire staff was friendly and always served with a smile. The food is excellent, the molten chocolate dessert is to die for! The property is centrally located and easy to get to. This hotel is not to be missed!

Spent just one night in my last week's business trip to Jamaica.
Good place, friendly/professional people looking after you and very decent food!
Since the Wyndham closed, Kingston remaining hotels have maintained (and some lowered) their quality, but definitely raised their prices!.....SP prices are premium, but accompanied with good service and very decent rooms,
Will return.

The Spanish Court hotel is very clean and staff members go out of their way to provide you with excellent service. The place is well decorated in a contemporary style and is well maintained. The hotel itself is on the opposite side of the street from the British High Commission compound on Trafalgar Road. There is a guard at the entrance who checks the vehicles entering and leaving the premises as there is car theft in Kingston as in any large city. The air conditioner in the rooms work well, in fact too well since even though it was the middle of summer, I had to turn it down. The beds are comfortable and clean and the rooms are nicely furnished. We got two rooms, one for my wife and I, and one for our kids (each over 21). Interestingly, the two rooms were next to each other and had a door in back that when they were both opened, allowed us to walk freely between the two rooms. This was very handy.

There is cable TV on which you can get the usual U.S. channels (ESPN, MTV, HBO etc) in addition to local programming. The TVs though are the old school, tube TVs. Hopefully they will upgrade to flat screen HDTVs so you get a better picture quality although I'm not sure they broadcast HDTV signal in Kingston, hmmm. The Wi-Fi worked well, and we were able to get a strong signal throughout the hotel. My only knock is that the rooms have only one open electrical socket (on the back wall). It would be nice to have more so you can charge you cell phone, tablet etc.

Room Tip: Bring an extension cord so you can plug in multiple devices to charge them. There is a full service...

This hotel was another business trip, I stayed at the Wyndham earlier this year.

Compared to the Wyndham the standard rooms were much nicer, especially the bathrooms. You do however pay for it, as its much more pricier.

The staff are very freindly, both at reception and around the hotel.

Food was really nice, especially thier sandwiches, chips and soup!

Its outside the British embassy and a large supermarket. The Wyndham was outside of KFC, so you need to decide which is more important!

The only issue with this hotel is that the outside pool area is much smaller than the Wyndham. Outside tables are around the pool, so you may get splashed when eating outside!

Overall this hotel is very nice, and I would not have an issue staying here again.

I recently spent two and a half weeks in this hotel during a business trip. The first thing you realize when you enter the reception area, is that the hotel's appearance was the work of a designer. You may or may not like it, but they've put effort in making these areas look nice.

Service was good everywhere, although restaurants are a bit slow (though this seems to be normal in this city).

Rooms also have the feeling of a designer's work. It has an adequate size, and has the minimum amenities you could expect in a business hotel, such as wake up alarm, good internet access, mini refrigerator, good a/c, TV with cable (TV set is a bit old, but works) and security lock. Beds are OK (just OK), but not exceptional. The room is kept clean and nice.

Its three restaurants are, again, well designed, and offer a nice menu. Food is a bit pricey, and slow to come, but has good quality. Breakfast was good and varied. My favorite dish during breakfast was the Escoveitch Fish (warning! it's spicy!), simply delicious. Coffee was not good, so I had to add milk to it (I need caffeine to function, and having good black coffee every morning is essential to me).

This hotel is expensive, starting at ~$220 per night. Despite all the good things this hotel has, in my opinion, you can get rooms like this in many other countries for much less. Anyway, all accommodations in Kingston are way too expensive for what they offer.

In summary, this hotel is a good choice, with a good location, but expensive. I wouldn't call this one a luxury hotel. One of the best two hotels in the New Kingston area (the other being the Courtleigh).

Along with three other colleagues, I spent three days at this hotel. Our overall impression: an average hotel with a couple areas of concern. One of our rooms had mold(I believe there had been a water leak or something similar); the manager was responsive and addressed the issue, including reducing the overall charges. My room and a colleague's room were dark and looked out on a retaining wall and air conditioner respectively. On the positive side, with the exception of the mold incident, the rooms were clean and of a good size. The breakfast was fine too. The restaurant and coffee shop were adequate, the staff attentive. We will stay there again. There's a supermarket across the street but not much else of interest.

Room Tip: Room 114 was at the end of the hall, dark and facing a wall, but was quite quiet.

The hotel is in the heart of the business district in new Kingston. I have a feeling this is also considered the heart for tourism, although it seemed quite dead to me. As there seems to be only 2 tourist sites anyway, and there are both nearby, then I guess it is central for tourists too. You can walk to Devon House in about 15 mins and it was safe (but nothing to see on the way) to do so, and Bob Marley Museum is a short $10 taxi away. The hotel was very good, which was a pleasant surprise to us as we had paid more for a hotel in Montego Bay and it was quite poor. The staff are very professional and helpful and run a front desk well suited to a business standard hotel. We were helped with flight booking changes and other transport arrangements and were impressed with the professionalism. The decor was modern and stylish and the rooms very comfortable. It appears to have been refurbed recently and some of the workmanship in the bathrooms was a bit sloppy but overall it's really nice. The gym was small but good. The breakfast was very good with lots of Jamaican food as well as Western. The pool is tiny and the "Sky" bar is on the 2nd floor but still it was a pleasant setting for a meal and drink overlooking the hills. We ate at the cafe, bar and restaurant and all were good (as there seemed no options nearby). The hotel was fully booked while we there and I can see why.
