For a place that is held up as one of the best places in Jamaica by many reviews, this place just didn't hit the mark for me. I only rate it poor based on the high expectation I had of the venue. People were great and food was okay, but not for the price you pay there.

“Lovely setting, under old trees”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

The best about dining at the Grog Shop is the setting. Outdoors, you are under shady old trees and beautifully tended foliage, a little magical at night; indoors you are in what looks like a converted carriage house. Either way, the setting is a treat.
The service is good; no cause for complaint. The food is fairly basic fare, reasonably cooked; enjoyable while hot. Nothing terribly imaginative. Prices aren't bad.

This is a restaurant that rests on it's site and setting. It's in Devon House, that beautiful oasis in the middle of Kingston.

“Delightful open air restaurant”
Reviewed March 20, 2011

When visiting Devon House, if you can't afford Norma's on The Terrace or just don't need a five course lunch, I can fully recommend the Grogg Shoppe close by. You might have to look for the entrance or even ask, but it is just off the Devon house courtyard. It's very nicely appointed and with shaded garden which is just perfect for lunch. The food is good, and with local character.
Not cheap but very fair value for the class. And you will enjoy it.
There is no menu displayed before you enter the restaurant but there is a 'greeter' at the entrance who is very happy to show you one so you can be sure their range suits. If not' there are other options nearby.
