Owner description: Birthplace and mausoleum of reggae legend Bob Marley.
Reviewed April 1, 2013

The drive through the winding roads, hills and mountains was tranquil and a sight for sore eyes. Once we arrived, we met our guide who introduced himself "They call me Captain Crazy" and from that point we were provided the most memorable tour of Bob Marley's birth place and personal stories of his life. While there, I purchased the book "Bob Marley Reggae King of the World". A must read IMHO!

"NATTY DREAD"

"Children get your culture
and don't stay there in gesture
Oh the battle will be hotter
And you won't get no supper
Natty dread, natty dread now
A dreadlocks Congo Bongo I
...Roots Natty Congo I...
Don't care what the world say
I could never go astray
Just like a bright sunny day
Oh we're gonna have things our way...."

Respectfully,

Debbie

We booked on a trip from our hotel in Bloody Bay, Negril costing about $126 inc a meal at a stop off on the return journey and it took us all of 3 hours to get there. The road up to Nine Mile is twisting and rough at times, but once you enter through the metal gates at Nine Miles, that is when you realise that its all worth the effort...and cost. It gives an insight to life in rural Jamaica, away from the tourist scene. The 4 of us were under the expert eye of Kayto our guide, who told us many amusing stories of his life with the great man and his family. No photos or video is allowed in the mausoleum, but you can share a spliff with him..if the mood takes you. Take your time to view the Marley artifacts and memorabilia prior to going up Mount Zion to the mausoleums and take as many photos as you can. You can try the Reggae shot drink in the bar and get to keep the glass for $10...an experience worth taking haha. The gift shop at the end of the tour is full of worthwhile gifts, but a little pricey. If you enjoy the legend that is Bob Marley and his legacy to the world...then this is THE trip to do.

do this independently so much cheaper than your travel rep, must say was not worth the visit for the price, but an experience to say the least .The tour is about 30 mins from start to finish the high lights of the tour is seeing bob`s marleys birthplace and his mausoleum.

This could be worth the trip if you love Bob Marley or like partaking of the earth as Bob did. However, it is expensive for what you get and the highlight is seeing a re-creation of his birthplace and his mausoleum. Otherwise, it is a few guys singing, a hike up the mountain and people trying to see you stuff at every turn. Overall, it was a good experience but not worth the money.
