“Pricey for what you get but a solid safe, clean option.”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Stayed 4 nights at $126 a night after having told a lower price during an earlier phone conversation. Room was spacious with 2 king beds and a rather noisy but effective aircon. Small balcony but you picked up the hot air being blown back outside. Hot water needed a while to warm up but bathroom was spacious and effective. Pool was 3 days late in being ready for use. WiFi better than Cap Haitien but very patchy and worked best early mornings or late at night. This is an OK resort style hotel but hard to see the value for money...Haiti is a very overpriced country all round. Safe in room but didn't use and had no problems leaving IPAD charging in room while I was out. Reception staff were helpful at all times. Breakfast included and the cafe had a good menu range with good food. Depending on traffic, a 30 plus minute taxi ride to Petionville. In hindsight it would have made more sense to have gone for a much cheaper accommodation option and simply eaten at the cafe and used WIFI from there.

I have stayed many times at Le Plaza -- over 25 nights in three years. The updated rooms are comfortable and the food is ok. Showers are average and need updated bathrooms but bedding is clean. However, on my last trip, someone banged at my door at 4 am for a very long time. I called security and the front desk but no one came. The next day, my brand new camera was stolen from my luggage. I would be very cautious about leaving anything valuable in your rooms. I hate to accuse people of theft in Haiti because someone would lose their job, but I am 100% certain that someone went through my suitcase while I was out of the room. As a single female traveler I will look for a hotel with better security in the future.

Dear Madam,
Thank you for your stay at Le Plaza Hotel and your review.
Beyond the particular incident recalled in your post, I would like to ensure you that we consider here at le Plaza Hotel very seriously the questions regarding safety and security. In concrete terms :
- the hotel compound is secured 24 hours a day by several armed security agents
- we have installed a videosurveillance system in key locations
- a safety box is available in every rooms. If it happens that a safety box is not functionnal and that we are not able to repair it immediately, we also have additionnal safety boxes available at front desk
I would like to know more about your incident and I am going to contact you personnally on Tripadvisor.
Very kind regards,
N. Lebeaupin, General Manager

As others have said, this is a good place to stay after field work to be sure you don't miss your flight, although with some demonstrations, burning tire piles can prevent entrance or exit to the airport. The hotel is a welcome relief from the rural areas and coming from Les Cayes, it was a good decompression hotel. Some of the rooms have been renovated with flat screen TVs. Even with that, there may still be issues such as the evening loss of electricity which doesn't last long or the occasional lack of water. Regardless, there is a nice pool and the food is quite a nice change from the rural stews.

Room Tip: Do request a renovated room..you may or may not get it but worth the try.

After spending 6nights in Jacmel we decided to spend our last night in haiti closer to the airport so we would be sure to make our flight home. We found le plaza on line and reseved a double room with breakfast for $103. The staff were very friendly even after we had some issues with our US credit card. Tbet assisted us with our luggage and made sure we knew how to work the Ac and tv etc before leaving us in our room. The room was spacious and comfortable. We also had a nice size refrigerator in the room with water. The pool was a little discolored but I'm not sure if it was dirty or just old. The dinner was FANTASTIC! We ate at the outside restaurant. The service was amazing, friendly and attentive. We split an app of kibby, two entrees: goat stew and plantain and pork sandwich add a few prestige total was $50. Not so bad. Breakfast Buffett the following day included fruits, cereal, eggs juice and coffee. In the afternoon, The hotel staff arranged for a cab to pick us up and take us to the airport. I would definately stay there again!

2nd stay at this hotel. The best part is the pool that is open late, after a hot day in the field. Rooms are improved from my first stay in 2011. Better mattresses. Good room service. Limited breakfast, I didn't like that you had the buffet or nothing.

An older hotel, hidden behind huge steel gates in the Champs Mars area of Port-Au-Prince. Le Plaza is not far from the airport but the traffic along the main street makes it a very long drive. Once you arrive at Le Plaza you enter a tropical garden and escape from the hustle and bustle of the crowded and noisy streets.

The lobby is at the other end of the grounds but there were porters in the parking lot ready to help us with our luggage. The staff gave us a warm welcome IN ENGLISH (Many on the staff spoke enough English to understand what we needed - We asked our house keeper for wash cloths when we got to our room “the itty bitty ones” she asked? She found some and brought them to us.) Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, there was a safe, and a refrigerator – we were happy campers.

The first night we had dinner in the main dining room – the food was delicious. My husband had steak – that was not as tender as he wished, but my fish “en Papillote” was superb. Cooked with cinnamon stick, thyme, bay and a variety of thinly sliced veggies – it was fragrant, moist and tender.

The breakfast buffet on the patio is a hit with everyone in the hotel so it is important to get there early. The variety is limited – nothing like the huge piles of food one sees in the US –but enough to start our day. During breakfast it seemed that everyone pulled out their tablets and smart phones and logged on to start their day’s work - since this was the area where you could rely on the wireless signal.

Dinners were hilarious. Our servers, Misslove and Jerry, were patient with us and did their best to get us just what we wanted – but as fate would have it – everything on the menu was not always available. On our first night no one realized our voucher was valued at $20 and that we would be expected to pay any additional costs. The moral to this oversight – be sure you know the value of your voucher.

Yes we had some problems but we did not let them ruin our stay.

There was a leak under our sink – and we finally stopped using
the sink and used the water from the tub to wash our face and
hands.

We did not have a strong wireless signal in our room (C 222)
but there was a Ethernet connection – which made my hubby
very happy.

If we left the air conditioner on, the room got really damp –
but we preferred the humidity to the heat that was the
result of turning off the air conditioner when we left for
the day.

On the weekend we were there. the music from Carnival
wafted over the walls and into our bedroom until the wee
hours. We kept kicking ourselves because we couldn't take
advantage of the all the fun taking place right under our noses.

The electrical power was out for a few minutes or so several
times every night– but we assumed that was a city problem –
not a hotel problem.

We enjoyed our stay at Le Plaza and would recommend it to other travelers – who are not expecting five star accommodations on a “beer budget”.

Room Tip: We had a room on the second floor. I think the first floor rooms were a bit more sheltered from the...
