“Compacted Club Med”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

It's a good CM but the layout puts all the dining, bar, disco, pool in the central area so it's very compact and loud. Nearest thing to a CM butlins experience (for the Brits who understand that) that we have had with CM.
Some rooms need renovation.
Nevertheless, the GOs were good (but that depends entirely on the mgmt and CdV), sailing was fun. Beach area extensive and well maintained, but was put off by the stream of people selling beachwear which CM can't control as it's not a private beach.
The beach bar was excellently located and was best place to be.
The fine dining restaurant was in a nice location but as usual pretty average. Being asked to pay 100 euro for langoustines and champagne was a bit steep. There is a menu without surcharge.
If you come to French WI then choose Martinique for better club.

Room Tip: Don't go to one of the cheap, un renovated rooms. Pay the extra. If you can't sleep with di...

Our family of five had a great time at this Club Med. The beach is beautiful, the food was great, the GO (staff) team was very helpful, friendly, and energetic and made a great effort to make our predomiantly English-speaking family at home. They have a wide range of sports activities for the entire family, I (adult female) really enjoyed the fitness activities, especially the pilates, stretching and Zumba classes led by Elodie (fantastic GO!) and aqua gym workouts led by Theo, Harmonie, Thibault and Farid. My 13 and 12 year old sons had a great time in the "Junior club" with GO Suzanne and learned to sail in addition to participating in the circus (flying trapeze), tennis, kayaking, and spending a lot of time perfecting their archery skills with another wonderful GO, William. The animation (entertainment) was fantastic, and the shows were some of the best I have seen in Club Med; the circus team was professional. Great teams are usually led by great chef du villages (general managers), and this one (Julien) was the best one I have seen.

Great for family vacation with kids. Resort has a lot activities to keep everyone busy. It's a French speaking island although some of the GO's speak little English. The food so far has been wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view it's worth it. Also, some of the room accommodate three kids in one room.

We LOVED Club Med La Caravelle. It was a beautiful resort, with fantastic activities and great food. The beach is possibly the best beach we've ever been to.

Highlights:
*The beach - shaded with palm trees, plenty of sun chairs, and the clearest, calmest waters you've ever seen.
*The staff are friendly and keen to please (perhaps annoyingly so at times)
*The rooms were spacious, updated, and the balconies were nice.
*The food was great - buffets can get tiresome, but the cheeses and breads were so fantastic!
*Decent wine for an all-inclusive
*Great activities for adults and children alike
*Fantastic mini-club with cool a-la-carte (pick and choose) activities such as Trapeze, trampoline, tennis clinic, etc. (These are included in the price)
*Nespresso coffee makers in every room, and great espresso machines all over the resort!

Lowlights:
*This is a French place. So if your child doesn't speak French, or have a playmate with them, they won't likely latch on to the mini-club
*A/C is the rooms was spotty
*Wi-fi was inconsistent
*Not enough food selection (the only other restaurant serves the same set menu every night, and has the same food as the buffet at lunch)
*HOT, HOT, HOT - Guadeloupe is extremely hot an humid. Common areas such as the main bar and the restaurant could do with some fans. We were sweating profusely at every meal.
*Dinner started too late - at 7:30 - which is fine as a European meal time, but children with jet lag had a terrible time
*Limited selection of snacks at the beach bar (a couple of baguettes and paninis)

With all that said - none of our issues were major at all. We had a few hiccups with registration and getting our bags, etc, but we were there for opening day after their six week closure...to be expected.

This was a high-end, all-inclusive holiday which we thoroughly enjoyed. The service was great, the food and activities were fantastic and the beach was exceptional. We would definitely go again, or try another Club Med!

Room Tip: Note that if you choose a family suite and have only one child - they are sleeping on the couch in t...

It's a great experience, a beautiful setting, an immensely enthusiastic team led by a charismatic chef de club. Unfortunately they are let down by the booking staff in the London office.

The hotel is located on a beautiful tropical beach. As this is open to the public, you have a greater opportunity to see something of the locals than in most all inclusive resorts. Guadeloupiens are charming, particularly if you speak French. In fact you do need French in the resort generally - though most of the GO's have some English, it isn't marketed as an international resort, and the week we were there, there were 4 Swedes and 1 American and everyone else was French or Québécois.

There's all sorts of sports, land and water. Most are included, but jet skiing and kitesurfing are extra. There was very little wind the week we were there so kitesurfing wasn't on. And the windsurfing takes place in a sheltered lagoon so was only suitable for beginners. There is plenty of windsurfing equipment, all quite old. Sailing was good, the wind outside the lagoon was fine and the channel through the reef well buoyed, but 3 hobiecats and one laser for a hotel that size is inadequate, and if you weren't in line to book by 0900 you didn't get a boat all day.

The club med attitude is have a go. They will teach if you want them to but they are very relaxed about you getting on a board or a boat and just doing your our own thing. They have good safety cover. I prefer this to the neilson attitude where they are always trying to teach.

Land sports include circus, tennis, boule, volleyball, aerobics, Zumba and a whole range of odds and ends.

Food in the main restaurant is excellent. Different buffets each meal and wine and beer included. Drinks at the bars are included from 9am to midnight. The speciality restaurant was a disappointment however, very slow service and indifferent food.

The whole ambiance is fun. The chef de club Julian is excellent and so is his team. Kids are well looked after in the Petit Club, Mini Club and Kids Club depending on age.

A few irritants mean 4 stars not 5. No snorkels or masks available to borrow, though they will sell you them for hugely inflated prices. It was the first week of the season so no one knew anything when you asked them, the air was more of a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs than a professional operation. The excursions are very expensive. There is a Hertz office on site but the car they rented us broke down! And the London booking office is hopeless, managing to get most things wrong, so check and double check that you have the rooms you thought you had booked, and that you have booked your own seats on the flight, because they won't have done so, etc etc.

But all in all it's very much value for money, particularly as with 4 children in their 20s we got through a great deal of inclusive booze and food and did a lot of different sports. And as it was half term week for the UK but not for France we didn't have to pay the inflated prices that UK oriented resorts charge at half term.

Room Tip: The cheapest option Les Saintes is basic but OK. The a/c works as do the showers and the TV and the...

Good experience, but our kids speak only spanish and english, was hard for them to make friends 99% of the kids only french speaking.
Next time we will go to Punta Cana Club Med, still french, but more mixed...English and Spanish kids.

For us as adults was great. Smaller that Club Med Punta Cana. Overall I prefer Punta Cana Club Med.

A great Club Med experience. Unusually beautiful beach, motivated staff, well run and engaging sports opportunities, fresh and inviting foods, and something for everyone in the family. We (two grandparents) were there with two grandsons (11 and 13). The older one reached first level international certification in scuba and the younger one had his first "catch" on the trapeze. Couldn't ask for more. Does it help to know some French? Of course, because Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France. But if you are open and adaptive, you will be fine. There were
several bilingual Canadians there, and many of the staff are comfortable with other languages. We were there in an in-between season in June, before the French school holidays, and felt especially privileged. On Sundays, this strand of beach is shared with an appreciative local population. They recognize it as the most beautiful on the island. We enjoyed this contact with Lebanese shopkeepers, local entrepreneurs, and families on an outing. Evening entertainment is a biggie, with significant attention to choreography, lighting, direction, and rehearsals. The staff really works on these productions. Kudos to all.

Room Tip: We stayed in two adjoining suites in Marie-Galante and were very pleased with the additional space...
