“Change of owner, but no change in quality”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We stayed three nights at Hafan Deg from 3 - 7 October, having booked with the previous owners. The enthusiastic new owners could not have been more helpful and are clearly carrying on the hospitable traditions of their predecessors. Hafen Deg is a peaceful place to stay in lovely surroundings - well worth breaking a journey to or from Snowdonia - or a trip in its own right.

Stayed in Hafan Deg for a weekend in the tiny village of Maeshafn in the Clywdian Hills, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The welcome was very warm and friendly, the rooms spacious and comfortable and overall we had a very pleasant stay. There are plenty of walks in the area and some stunning views. We ate in the Druids pub in Llanferres just down the hill and really enjoyed the welcome and food there but there are other places to eat in Maeshafn and Loggerheads, so plenty of choice. Would stay again if we were looking for accommodation in this area.

Had a great stay at Hafan Deg, amazing location - stunning views over the valley, and easy access to all the nearby parks including Loggershead, but only a 2 minute walk to the local Miners Arms pub in the tiny village of Maeshafn. Very comfortable room with a huge cosy bed, struggled to get up for the 4 course breakfast (homemade bread and jam included). Ted and Charmian were really welcoming and make you feel right at home. Highly recommended and would definitely go back.

Stayed at Hafan Deg for two nights and can't praise it enough. Ann & David were superb hosts. The room was of a good size and the bed was huge.
It was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was superb. I would happily stay here again.
The only thing I would say is if you plan to visit in winter be very careful as Hafan Deg is in a little Welsh village miles from anywhere and is situated on quite a steep hill so could be difficult to get to in bad weathert.
I would also recommend if you do stay there that you try the Miners Arms for your evening mean. A fabulous little pub about 100 yards from the hotel that served great food

Gorgeous B&B. Stayed one night in room 2 (1 double/1 single/sitting area and shared bathroom). Exceptional facilites, charming, characterful and clean with terrific homecooked breakfast. Only caveat - super-hospitable owners possibly a bit too chatty at breakfast time if guests have previously had a late night.

We booked Hafan Deg when we were in the area over Easter weekend for a wedding and didn't fancy a corporate style hotel. We arrived mid-afternoon to glorious sunshine and to our surprise breathtaking views!
The house and gardens are beautiful and Ann and David are very welcoming and friendly. We struggled to get a taxi over to the wedding reception and David very kindly took us there himself. We were very grateful. The bed and room were lovely and comfortable and there was a great choice for breakfast including a delicious cooked one. We are planning to come back with our toddler to do some walking and exploring the area.

We spent Easter weekend away at Hafan Deg and planned to go cycling in the Clwydian hills and at Llandegla. This is a great area, very pretty rolling countryside, yet so quiet, well worth a detour or weekend away. Ann and David made us very welcome in their home that they built themselves. We had a large ensuite room with views over the garden - which was bathed in sunshine all weekend (glad we chose to go west for this weekend). Great english/welsh cooked breakfast. wi-fi connection was very useful too. The local pub, MIners Arms, was full of friendly locals and served good beer and meals. All in all a delighful spot and very nice b&b.
