I've read some of the reviews of cruise ship passengers who thought that this would be an exciting excursion. If you want relaxing, a feel for the French Caribbean, a history lesson, or just to relax this is the place. You can wander the streets, walk the beach, shop a little, go to the fort...it's an amazing place to just loosen up and relax.

We spent a couple of days during our holiday staying at Trois Rivières where there is literally nothing to do. Having decided to spend a day on Terre-de-haut, we bought our ferry tickets the day before we were going and received a discount. The journey was fast and we were glad to be inside as those people who travelled on deck were soaking wet. The first sight of the town of Terre-de-haut is breathtaking. It truly is a beautiful situation and the natural harbour was breathtaking.
We didn't hire a motorbike or scooter and started on the climb up to Fort Napoléon. After a while of walking in the baking heat up a shadeless hill we gave up and decided to walk along the coast. There were beautiful beaches and we watched the fishermen preparing their catches for sale on the beach, the pelicans and frigate birds fighting over the leftovers. The little town was a delight and there are quality gifts and souvenirs on sale in the lovely little shops.
We ate lunch in a delightful restaurant called La Fringale where we ate very well and sat out the heavy midday rainstorm.
We had a very pleasant day and, if we ever return to Guadeloupe, we would return there.

Les Saintes was one of the excursions we booked, but it wasn't as paradise like as we had expected; probably we didn't visit the correct 'Bay of Les Saintes';
Guided visit, with island busses
Fort Napoleon was nice to visit, with a cactus garden and a nice museum inside.
Then we went for one hour on a beach, had lunch in a local restaurant with good food and a great view; then 2 hours free walking in the small town and local beaches.
It was nice, but if you're doubting between this excursion and another one, I recommend the other one :-)

We were so looking forward to a return trip to Les Saints, we had spent a one day trip there 6 years ago and had booked to stay for 1 week this time.
I am afraid Les Saints has been loved to death! The scooters were like angry wasps everywhere and downright dangerous on the narrow roads. Construction noise echoed in the hillsides and afternoons and evenings { + some nights} were filled with monotonous LOUD music. There was no peace and tranquility even on the terrace of our rental property. People everywhere, most beaches were busy and if you were really lucky anchored boats were blaring out music too!
Very sad.

We got a boat from Saint Francois to Les Saints, the boat trip took about 90 minutes! This island is definitely worth a visit with its quaint little streets, filled with well maintained colourful houses! This island has some small beaches and has a beach that is a natural reserve! You can walk around the island but you can also hire scooters to get around the island as there are some steep hills! There are several restaurants, bars, hotels and shops on the island! This is a very pretty and quaint island, very beautiful!
