Owner description: Long, lovely sweep of white sand fronted by turquoise blue water and backed by hills.

One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Soft, powdery white sands and beautiful blue waters. It's not very built up with resorts, so just find a spot, bring a towel or chair, and enjoy. The water is quite tranquil and great for all ages. All the resorts that are on the beach also welcome anyone to come on in and purchase drinks or food so no need to worry about bringing anything with you. Do be firm with locals who are trying to sell you things or they will keep coming back, but some good deals are to be had from them if you enjoy the negotiation game.

We visited Grand Anse Beach during our cruise ship's stop in Grenada. Very little about our trip to the beach was relaxing, beginning with our water taxi ride over from the cruise ship port. The taxi operator berated us because we wouldn't buy round trip tickets and threatened that we would not be able to get a return ride to the cruise ship dock on a water taxi without one. (We were considering taking an auto taxi back from the beach.) He also told us no auto cabs served the beach. Upon arriving at the beach, a constant barrage of vendors and buskers began harassing us. We were offered drinks, beach chairs massages, watercraft rides and songs, among other things during our 3 hours at the beach. We wouldn't have found the vendors so problematic if they would have left us alone after we gave each of them a polite "no thank you" the first time they approached us. One of the singers, using the word very generously, approached us several times, often standing over me and "singing" after I told him I was not interested.

As for the beach, it is pretty and the water is nice. But, I have found the beaches on other Caribbean islands (e.g. St. John USVI) just as good or better.

One final note: we had no issue finding a water taxi willing to take us back to the cruise ship dock.

The sand and ocean water on Grand Anse Beach are truly stunning. Super soft and white, there is plenty of space to go on a long beach walk, or rent a chaise and lounge. There is also a beach bar located close by to cool off. Beware of the open-air pop-up shops near the public entrance. Many of the shop owners are very pushy and try to convince you to buy things you don't want. Many hotels are located along Grand Anse Beach and offer hotel-affiliated chaises and umbrellas for people staying with them. For cruisers - this beach is about 10-15 minutes drive from the main cruise port in St. George's.

This is the beach that all others in Grenada are compared to. Indeed the beach is pretty with near white sand that glistens in the sun and calm pale blue waters that beckon swimmers of all ages to take a dip. The main problem I have with this beach is that nothing is free--its hard to sit yourslef anywhere without hotel staff coming to tell you that the spot you've chosen is not available to you. In addition there are vendors everywhere and as much as I like to support local artists and business people it gets a bit much on this beach. In fact these two features (i.e. hotel staff telling you to move and vendors non-stop push) really made it difficult to enjoy the beach. I have travelled extensively in the Caribbean and can honestly say that even the 7 mile beach in Negril, Jamaica is more accessible and friendly! As far as Grenadian beaches with more beauty, I would recommend any of the gorgeous white sand beaches on Carriacou over Grand Anse any day!
